If they had anything incoming, they'd have hinted at it in their Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced it reached an agreement to sell the company’s entry-level feature phone assets to FIH Mobile Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group, and HMD Global, Oy for $350 million announcement.
Instead, you got "Microsoft will continue to develop Windows 10 Mobile and support Lumia phones such as the Lumia 650, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, and phones from OEM partners like Acer, Alcatel, HP, Trinity and VAIO." which doesn't mention themselves as future producer of phones.
(Unlike IOS) Android is as open a platform as one would practically want, allowing Microsoft (and anyone) to install any of their own apps and services, including always-on Cortana, to be monetised, so, why would Microsoft develop their own hardware?
Eh, I frankly think it'd likely be an ARM device, as Intel pulled out from mobile SoC market. Meaning that continuum would likely be more of RT like thing than a proper Windows OS kind of thing.
Honestly, I'd be super excited for this. Surface is a great product, and the 950's look meh.

I would avoid phones with the s810, unless they become significantly cheaper. Especially now we have s820 powered phones. I don't think this is the right time to buy a windows phone, this phone is due for a big price drop. In the US Microsoft were offering buy one get one free deal because they had over estimated demand and needed to clear stock.
Either overestimated demand…or overpriced the product to the point where everyone went "meh".
Similar specs to LeEco Letv pro for less than $270. Unless you really want a Windows phone.
