Once they're gone, they're gone!
Perfect if you need your deck waxed this weekend!
You obviously missed my pun :(
Choice joke bro. I'm sure all the Kiwis laughed.
Clever deck!
Wattle I do with with all this deck oil
Use it for waxing your deck, apparently.
Am I the only one who feels funny about water based oils?
No, its a worry. Is it an emulsion?
some products use water as the carrier some use solvents that they expect to evaporate … unfortunately few of these products are 100% active ingredient …. the trade off between convenience and active ingredient. you can always mix your own with the ingredients from the paint section. I like the water based ones, but they don't last as long as the ones you mix yourself.
Bunnings have replied with 6l of British Paints oil on sale for $39:

My question as someone about to do his new deck for the first time… are either of these any good?
I used this exact product 2 weeks ago on my new deck. Very happy with the result and application was forgiving for a newbie like me.
Oops I mean 4l of the water based equivalent for $38.90

Why wouldn't the 6L be the better deal 50% more … they are both decking oil?
From everything I've read: oils ain't oils
Has anyone used decking oil to oil their outdoor furniture instead? At this price it's tempting to try it out.
You can, but don't sit on it with your white chinos for a few weeks.
Leaving it in the direct sun to help it cure for a few days wouldn't hurt either.
Furniture oils tend to be formulated with the understanding that people want to sit on it fast.
Most likely it'll just be sticky for a while.
Interesting thanks for the tip!
Tradie reporting in.
Expressdeck is one of the better quality decking oils on the market, similar to intergrain ultradeck or Cabots aquadeck.
In general, water based acrylic/oil modified products like this are the best ones you can get.. Sometimes last up to 2 years.
Traditional turps clean up oils generally have the shortest life span .. 3-6 months.
All depends where you live and what weather you get.
Thanks. I got similar advice at Bunnings, the acrylics have a much longer longevity.
I need to paint an overlapped fence and brush / roller seems like too much work. Are products such as Aquadeck suitable for use with a spray gun? If so, are there any gotchas?
It will probably say on the can that you can't.
Could have issues with patchiness of color.. Some parts being darker than others. Or may have issue with adhesion..
..But plenty of painters will apply it with an airless spray gun.
If you want to do it a bit more properly you would still want to lay it off with a paintbrush immediately after spraying, working section by section. Doing that would help push it into the timber.
I would not bother attempting to spray it with a conventional/air powered spray gun.. You'll be there all day and probably not get enough oil on the timber.
The life span of the oil will always come down to how much oil you can build up on the timber.
Plenty of people will think a 4L can will do an entire boundary fence or something ridiculous and then complain when it dies in 3 months.
Start in an inconspicuous corner and get your hand in before doing the highly visible parts.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the tips. I guess it's going to be a paint brush job, I'd rather take twice as long and get it right the first time, than take a shortcut and completely cock it up.
I've got about 75-80 square meters, so was going to go for the 10L can. Better to have some extra than run out.
@seajay
what do you recommend as a good deck cleaner before I apply expressdeck? i had our deck done with roof about 6 months ago and i have never applied anything on it.

Napisan (home brand equivalents are the same) dissolved in hot water, poured on and brushed and pressure washed before repeating. More information is available on the Australian renovate decking forums.
Maverick-au is not wrong..
If you care about product warranty you should use the deck cleaner that wattyl makes.
But basically any oxalic acid dissolved in water.
Wet the deck, apply the oxalic acid mixture, keep it wet for 10+ mins, agitate with stiff broom, wash thoroughly with fresh water.
Kills mould, lifts dirt and tannins out of the timber
For the people who buy this from Masters Marsden Park, FYI the shop assistants told me that this is sold out as the shelf is empty. Went to the front of the store at the top of the aisle and there was a pallet load of this stuff. No wonder they are going out of business.
If you lived in NZ, this may have a different meaning if you hear someone say this…
