Ducky Shine 5 RGB Mech Keyboard + Wrist Rest | $199 (Save $65) | PC Case Gear | +$21 Postage or VIC Free Pick Up

160

Just noticed this in my inbox from an EDM last Friday and jumped on this deal straight away. I can't recommend ducky shine keyboard highly enough. They are absolutely fantastic. I just purchased my second ducky shine 5 and would vouch for them in a heart beat. I use a PC for probably 8-12 hours a day and this keyboard is excellent. You can find a ton of reviews online with a quick google search or there are some videos displaying the product on ducky shine's youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/duckykeyboard/videos)

Things to note:

Save yourself $65 (25% off) on this deal! This is a legit 25% off. Better than eBay CTECH20 deals because PCCG prices are jacked up on eBay.
Cherry MX Switches - Blue, Brown, Red, White and Black available.
Postage is a bit meh @$21 to Melb or Sydney CBD or you can pick up for free.
You don't need the wrist rest but I'd highly recommend it as the keyboard sits a tad higher than some other keyboards (key height is about 25mm) so it makes for a much better user experience.
The keyboard is normally priced at $229 but you get the bonus wrist rest which sells for $35.
You can manually set the keys to whatever colour you want! This really sets it apart from a lot of the competitors. You can have them all one colour or individually program any key to any colour you want. Also has varying other lighting modes.

If you've ever considering or been tempted by a mechanical keyboard this is the jump you should take. Deals this good pop up maybe once every 12 months if that.

Happy typing/gaming :-)

  • I'm awaiting the TKL version or an RGB Pok3r

$21.- shipping for a keyboard is just ridiculous.

  • I have a Ducky Shine 2 - and that too is an absolutely fantastic keyboard. I don't know why these newer models are getting increasingly garish, but mercifully, the lights can be turned off.

    • The only difference is that it is RGB. You don't get a Ducky 'Shine' if you don't want some lights :)

If I had this, I would have it set to all white anyways.

    • If you don't like the lights, get a standard PBT Ducky. I have a 9008G2 Pro, no lights and it's fabulous.

These keyboards are some of the best you can get. Be warned though, the bittersweet thing about Ducky keyboards is the lack of any driver/software suite. While that's awesome for compatibility and less background processes, it also makes doing custom effects quite a nightmare, as they have to be programmed on the keyboard itself, not a GUI. I personally prefer a software suite, and I know a lot of others would as well, but I also see the value in not needing one.

    Anyway, a solid keyboard.

CM recently released their Masterkeys Pro L/S range of RGB keyboards and these have the same set of features and more (driverless RGB lighting with a range of presets/modes) on top of customisable software lighting. I haven't had the chance to try the Masterkeys hands on but I find the Ducky YOTG's (same internals as a Shine 5) use of the full RGB spectrum to be quite limited (don't see any light mode that makes use of a full spectrum for light effects, but instead discrete colours).

They also have a standard key sizing bottom row on theirs, and have a standard sized / small bezel compared to the Shine 4/Shine 5.

The S (numpad less version) is $159 and L (standard) $199. I've only come across one recent deal/offer I was able to find for this keyboard was MWave's:

Free CM Storm Extra Large Mouse Mat with Selected CM Storm Gaming Gear (Limited Time Only) with coupon code : ab81737

      The Extra Large one appears to be the keyboard / mouse length one @ XL: 900 x 360 x 3 mm / 35.4 x 14.17 x 0.12 inch http://gaming.coolermaster.com/en/products/pads/swift-rx/

      http://computers.mwave.com.au/ppc/cm050516

has free pickup if you're in NSW and shipping for 12.95 (once you put in the keyboard coupon you can't go the cheapest AusPost 9.95)

Very nice post. I didn't realise the Masterkeys were in Aus yet. Looks like a very good keyboard and if it's in the same regard as some of the CM Storm QF models I'm sure will be well recommended for years to come.

  • Hi, sorry if this is an odd question… when you say "I use a PC for probably 8-12 hours a day and this keyboard is excellent," why is that so?
I am looking to buy a new keyboard (and mouse) as I think I might have RSI in the wrist. Would a keyboard like this help this out? Thanks!

You'd be best served in checking out an ergonomic keyboard and mouse like those on www.ergonomicsnow.com.au

I work a desk job (analyst) where I'm on a PC for 7-8 hours. Then I get home and will use my PC for 3-4 hours of gaming and general web browsing. The mechanical keys are lighter on your fingers ever so slightly to put less strain on your hands, the layout is nice and balanced and the fact that it is higher and you're using a wrist rest should put less strain on your arms/wrists if you've got bad posture. However I don't think you'll see a huge difference if you've already go a somewhat developed case of RSI. This needs time away from a keyboard to recover. I think RSI is more due to ergonomics of your setup - chair type/height , desk height, posture and bad habits in your posture that can be hard to break out of if you've been doing them for a long time rather than the keyboard you are using. It's also just dependent on the person sometimes. I've known people that can't use a PC for more than 3-4 hours a day even if they have the right posture/setup.

    • If you are having problems you should probably look into ergonomic mouse and keyboards.

Mechanical keyboards have lots of options for keys, so you can maybe choose one that requires less pressure to register. Previous ~$80 regular keyboard I've owned all began to wear out after a year or two, not that they became unusable but keys like space, shift or enter come loose, rattle when pressed and sometimes don't register, this made the keyboards annoying to use. My current mechanical keyboard (Das Keyboard) has lasted me 5 years and types as good as the day I got it.

Typing honestly doesn't feel much different unless you get a clicky variant, it's just the consistency and durability that I like.

I've had a DS5 since day one, and also a Pok3r. Sold the Pok3r and kept the DS5, it's by far the best keyboard i've ever owned. Would definitely buy a TKL version when that comes out.

  • How would this compare to a Razor Blackwidow Chroma?

    • +1

Switches/typing is better, quality is better, lighting wuality is better, comfort is better and the list goes on.

Only con is no software ro customise lighting even further.

      • nice, thank you.

  • Where does say free bonus wrist rest?

I can't find any mention of getting a free wrist rest in the link or in the Ducky Shine 5 product description. And when I add the wrist rest to my cart, it adds the price of the wrist rest (brings my total to $234 + $22 postage) to my cart instead of being free?

    • The bonus offer for the free wrist pad looks like it's expired. I've adjusted the post accordingly.
