damnit! paid $21.75 for an ipad mini cover from Dick Smith's RIP sale. dicked from the grave!

    • i laughed at this harder than i should!

  • saw genuine ipad 2 covers at target toombul for $7 each.

    • That's good .. Runaway Bay had none genuine and only original Air in their clearance for $7

  • i cant buy online. gives me an error :(

  • Damn, just bought a knockoff from eBay for $8 (needed it this week)…wish I had waited for one of these!

    • +1

did your ebay one have a back cover as well, as this one seems to only be the screen cover, in which case don't feel too bad, I did exactly the same.

      • +1

nah, i purposely bought a front cover only, cause i wanted to add minimal thickness. i won't really be taking the ipad with me, so didn't think i would need the back cover (already have an ipad mini with a full portfolio style case).

        • I reckon the back cover is more important for protection than the front cover to be honest, provided you have a screen protector on it. Back cover adds a bit of cushioning to the corners if you drop it. Front cover is handy as a stand though.

        • @Gravy:

see discussion below. each to their own, depends entirely on your needs.

as i said above, i have a full portfolio case on my ipad mini, because my main concern is drop protection on my ipad mini (which I use portably). for my ipad air, i won't be taking it portably with me (only transporting to different places), so my main concerns are thickness and protecting the screen. so i use a smart cover on that - that is what best suits my needs.

as i said, each to their own. there is a reason apple makes a smart cover AND a smart case.

        • @caprimulgus: Yeah totally understand that, I have young kids so back cover is important to me. Onto my second smart case/cover now.

    • Comment deleted as I was talking about case not cover.

  • "Does anyone know if this works with iPad Air 2, please leave a comment."
Yes the IPad Air cover will work with the ipad air 2.

    • I believe the hole for the mic or the camera would be put in a slightly different alignment

      • It's smart cover not case.

        • It's smart cover not case

          What's that supposed to mean?

          Doesn't it cover the iPad?

        • @llama: only the screen

        • @tdw:

How silly. It's the REAR of the iPad that is the most vunerable to damage!

Thanks for clarifying - a lot of people will not realise that this is such a limited (niche?) product.

        • @llama: hey, it's apple ;)

        • @llama:

the difference is, damage to the rear of the ipad is cosmetic…damage to the front of the ipad can drastically affect usage of the ipad.

i'd say most people would prefer damage to the back than the front!

Any damage from the front that breaks the screen isn't going to prevented by a twee little thin cover like this thing.

i'd say most people would prefer damage to the back than the front!

I suppose so. I'm really anal about scratches on the rear of my devices, so that is my main reason for using a case or skin. Scratches on the screen are prevented by a screen protector.

I like these "folio" style stands, and have them on all our tablet type devices. So I cannot see the point of getting one that covers the front and leaves the rear exposed, when you can get one that looks identical and covers BOTH!

          completely disagree.

firstly, any layer of protection is better than nothing. a cover and/or tempered glass screen protector absorbs some impact - this can be enough to shatter the glass screen protector, but save the screen, for example.

secondly, the cover helps prevent scratches (scratches also detract from the user experience).

but each to their own. (remember, you're the one saying "how silly" this "niche" product is…i am simply explaining that it isn't) ;)

        • @caprimulgus:

You make some good points, but you seem to miss mine.

I'd call it a "half protector" for an iPad. It looks like a proper case, but it only protects from one side (the front).

Hence, you only get half of what you might have expected… which means that people who want full protection would be better to purchase something that does that.

Consider - an "invisible" screen protector will protect the front of the iPad from scratches and similar minor damage. So, I consider this a "niche" product because it only does half the job of most other products that look and function in a similar way.

        • @llama:

with all due respect, they sell a "smart cover" and a "smart case". i believe they are quite clear in what each product does, and it is quite clear that you are after a smart case.

the smart cover does the full job that it is intended to do. but that is not what you want it to do, so this product is not for you.

  • Damn. Thought this covered the entirety of the iPad.
