It takes 2000 points to redeem $10.00.

10 points is literally worth 5 cents.

    As previously discussed here.

Bunnings paint shaker, here I come…

  • Have had a fitbit (which incidentally I redeemed for free via flybuys rewards) for about a year… linnked to this deal… and have hit the 10k target about 360 of the 365 days (roughly). Nice little bonus and added motivation for me.

    So that's 3600 points I guess

Old deal but I like it

    • Very nice, apart from all the points etc, how has it affected your health?

Did you lose weight and tone up?

      • +3

Yeah definitely. Completely changed my life

        • +2

Well done for taking the initiative, if anything your story is more of a motivation to me than the deal haha

  • For those that cant hit 10k steps a day adding the step via the app manually will take 10 seconds.

    • Can you elaborate on how to manually add/edit steps manually via their app? I can only find setting step goals.
      Thanks

      • Add exercise, choose walking, put in time and distance. It will increase your steps.

        • +1

Yeh what he said you go to add exercise then there is a stop watch top right of the screen add walk, run or bike ride input time & distance it will update your steps occordinly.

        • @TheStahh:

          Thank you!

    • Flybuys link won't accept manually added steps. Check the T&C.

Unless you have gotten it to work successfully and received your points?

      • There is no way of them knowing if manual steps have been added unless they have accesa to your phone even then it comes up as you did the exercise.

  • Also works with Garmin if you have one of their trackers. I'd better get the Mrs running in the morning to get those steps up!

    • +6

Certain wrist movements by your Mrs can mimics steps… I'll just leave it at that.

      • +8

how will ol' two stroke get the other 9998 steps?

EDIT: not referring to anyone in particular in the comments (if you are the type to take offence easily, I refer to myself)

      • this needs more votes+

    • you'll be running if she reads this comment!

  • How easy is it to link? I am wondering whether I can add 3 family members who are not living with me and who have a different fund so wouldn't use it and get some extra points? I don't have a fit bit, so not sure how syncing works… Cheers

    • Login to flybuys -> click link to fitbit -> login to fitbit -> authorise flybuys to access fitbit data -> done

if you have the various usernames and passwords, piece of pie

      • +1

So just by entering the usernames it will know the steps? The device doesn't have to be plugged in to the computer or anything?

  • +1

The title isn't quite accurate. It's not 10 points for every 10000 steps, it's 10 points every day you reach 10000 steps. As is, the title suggests you could walk 20000 steps in a day and get 20 points, or walks 10000 steps over multiple days to get 10 points.

  • Here rover.

  • Is 10 points really enough motivation for anyone?

  • +1

Absolutely not worth bothering with, as person above mentioned it's a MAX 10pts (5c) per day no matter how many multiples of 10000 steps you do.

HOWEVER… Once a year on average they have a promo where you get 20000 points ($100) if you do 10K steps every day for a month. That's definitely worth it!

    • +1

This would be worth it. Except it really needs to be an average of 10k steps per day. For example, if I did a marathon on Saturday, I wouldn't want to be told I needed to be on my feet to do 10k steps on Sunday (or Monday!)

  • Ok if you're doing this anyway then yea sure, 10 points/day, yay.

But as has been mentioned above, literally 5 cents. That's garbage. I can't say I'd consider this a true "deal" myself.

Don't take this personally OP. This offer by Medibank/FlyBuys is garbage. Not you.

  • Will this also work with xiao mi band?

  • +1

If you're an office worker, don't even attempt 10k a day. Just won't happen. Gym twice a day (cardio at lunch, weights in evening) and I barely manage 5-7k.

    9-5 is the devil.

    • +1

I easily get 10k and work 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
So please do not generalise, and discourage others. It is difficult at the beginning, but with some effort, you can do it, and soon, it becomes a habit. People, you can get down one or two stations before your stop and walk. Go out during lunch, and with your spouse/ kids in the evening.
All counts ! You are the winner.

    • I am very desk bound but walk to/from the next station rather than the one near my office, and also get off about 10 mins walk from house. Get about 7,000 doing that alone.

      • Ok…looks like there's some serious differences in devices. I've been on a 10km 2.5 hour hike and only got 9k steps?

      • How many km's? That sounds way too many steps for that. I suppose a step would be about 0.75m.. ie: 7000 steps is 5.25km
Note 1km fast walk is about 10min. Meaning you walk 4km for that extra train station in the morning?

Unless you're mobile a lot in the office (and it doesn't sound like you were including office walking at all), that doesn't add up.

Roughly, 10000 steps should be 1.25 hours of walking, or 7.5km.

Brink's hike sounds a little low for steps, maybe by 20%.

If you can, look up the show "the weekly". About 3 or 4 weeks ago Charlie Pickering did a story on "big data" and how devices like fitbits are being used, in this instance by medibank to track what food (through flybuys) you are purchasing and how much exercise you do. In turn medibank can use this information to arrive at different policy premiums. I'm not some tinfoil hat wearing weirdo, its just an interesting take at how a seemingly individual tracking device can give much more information when combined with other data.

    • +4

There was at least one report from overseas which claimed that a Health Fund were using this data against a member. They looked at what food the person ate and rejected a particular health claim as the condition was caused by the food they had been buying.

    • I watched this and it made me think. This is possible. With Flybuys now teaming up with good life gym too, then doing insurance so they know where you live and what car you drive - the info is just increasing
