and when you bought this one, next week gonna be cheaper coming out or better model.. buy early, enjoy ahead.
Come back in a few years and you'll throw up and question why you ever paid $283 for 1TB SSD drive when it will probably cost $60. I paid $1,000 for a Double speed PC CDrom reader when they were new. :P
I paid $1000 for a single speed CD Rom drive and it didn't come with Britanica.
This is ridiculously cheap.
Just in case you're wondering how it stacks up against the popular evo, yes it's slower due to the controller being used and the standard TLC NAND memory compared to Samsung's V-NAND technology which is advertised to be "better performance and reliability". To be honest you're only going to notice the speed differences in really heavy software use such as multiple Virtual Machines or multiple file transfers.

Has been cheaper, multiple times in the past couple of months. Hardly a bargain.

Everyone loves to correct the teacher in high school. But not everyone sees every single deal that floats through and scrolls off the front page of OzBargain in half a day.
It's great to point out that it has been cheaper before but it helps nobody since those deals expired. If this is the current cheapest deal or simply a good deal in its own right then it's still a great deal! Embrace the deal, thank the OP for their time and effort to post it and be happy.
Sure but it's not a bargain (same could be said if it was only slightly cheaper too). I didn't neg it.
Does OzBargain become just continual posts of the current cheapest price available for every item regardless of whether it's a good deal or not?
Edit: I don't see why I get negged for pointing out it's been cheaper.
I didn't neg you. I guess you just seemed like a smarty pants. :p we are all friends(mostly) here!
I think unless it's cheaper it should be classified an ongoing good price rather than a bargain. Post it on front page when it's like a new significant deal. Ie. $212 for it :-)
That's a bargain and I'll buy 3 or 4!
It is a bargain in the sense that it is nicely discounted from the usual price and it is a good buy.
As Skramit said, yes it has been cheaper before but since those deals expired I don't see why this isn't a legitimate posting.
And I'm pretty sure that's exactly how OzBargain works, otherwise when would you suggest deals can be posted? I'm sure most people would agree that $280 for a 960GB SSD from a decent manufacturer is a good deal.
it's not what you said Shonky, it was how you said it. it was the vibe you gave out.
it was how you made people feel.
postive or negative.
in this case, you managed to annoy someone and they gave you a -1.
could be anyone reading the post.
PS: I gave you a +1 so now you don't have a -1 anymore.
Can someone recommend an enclosure for this that is capable of using thunderbolt for macbook pro?
I have looked into this recently.
If your MBP has USB3 it is cheaper to just get a USB3 enclosure. As this drive has a SATA interface SATA limits the speed TB can access, so TB and USB3 are pretty close using this drive.
Using SATA the only way you will get superior speed out of thunderbolt compared with USB3 is using a multi drive raid enclosure with more than one drive in it. PCIE SSDs would however be a whole different story and you would get heaps and heaps more speed from thunderbolt compared with USB3 using a single drive.
That said, my old 2011 iMac which doesn't have USB3, so thunderbolt makes sense rather than open it up to replace the HDD, as I worry about dust getting in, and my own skillz. 😥 Opening would be the best long term solution, but I will try an enclosure first.
So I have just bought a delock TB enclosure on eBay which has an ac power supply. You can get bus powered for a lot less, but for some ridiculous reason they all come with an HDD already in them, which I would just have to throw away and put an SSD in to benefit from the TB goodness. It offends me for some reason. Waste probably. I am turning into a grumpy old man before my time.
Ok. I preferred the last one $268
I wish Petrol prices and other inelastic goods would fall as quick. Petrol prices and bank interest rates don't fall. All price falls and rate cuts are kept as profit.
Thanks OP.
the price of SSD is dropping nicely!
Thanks and +1 for the excellent post OP. on the look out for one now but not in a rush, so i might wait for it to head back down to AU$263.
Nice price!! Must resist…
be cool! I will wait around mid June and will pull the trigger. just 1 month!!!
Do online retailers have sales in June? I thought June EOFY sales only applied to Australia as US and the UK have different financial year ends.
I remember last year around June there is 15% or 20% discount ebay, and also other online retailers sales.
I got my 250gb intel SSD last year, during June last year, so I want to wait. Beside, sandisk ultra discount happens quite often now ( trust me it is really hard for my to resist, but i manage to control myself ;)
Ah.. good ol' ebay discounts. thanks for that, will keep an eye out for it too. Hope they bring back the "spend $200 and get a $100 voucher" promo too.
I paid $250 for the 480 couple of months back. I didn't even need it back then. I should of waited a couple more months for this deal. I think this SSD would more than meet the requirements of most people, including mine. The 480GB version, isn't the fastest drive. It is slower than the Samsung Pro, and it is noticeable when running multiple VM with high IO requirements. For everyday use, I can't tell the difference.
