  • The galaxy s7 for 72 with 6gb data seems like good value. You get free 1st month access and galaxy gear vr.

    • More wins for me this semester. First the free Fitbit thanks to UTAS, and more importantly an edu email address to take advantage of this deal. An s7 edge with an extra gb of data would set me back an extra $2 per month.

  • I'm trying to access that offer, but there doesn't seem to be a link on that page (https://www.optus.com.au/student-hub)

  • The $36 month a month deal is exactly the same as Vaya's $36 Unlimited XL deal with Vaya being month-to-month instead of being locked in a 12 month contract. But they have horrendous customer service; so I guess Optus wins.

    • +1

only difference is vaya is only ~$13/month for first 3 months on the unlimited XL through Groupon and WELCOME code. hence 3 months vaya vs 1 month optus for same price :)

  • +1

    Average price tbh.

If you need the data: http://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/mobile-broadband $35/mo for 10GB

If you need the calls and data:
10GB+UNLIM (basically the same plan) has been $40/mo before. It was $36/mo with student discount.

    • Hoping they'll come back, I need data but also phone… currently paying the $45.

      • There's a $40/mo plan for Uber partners atm, though you need to register as an Uber driver.

Thanks for the tip mate :)

I have managed to sign up $36 10GB Unlimited Calls/Texts on a 12 month plan without any hesitation at all from the live chat rep. In fact he was more than happy to do so.
Just tell them your friend's on it and you want in on the same thing. It's normally $40 so you will need a UNIDAYS code to reduce it to $36.

So an extra 3GB of data for 1 minute on livechat really!

Been on Live Connected's $27.89 plan (2gb data, $700 calls) for too damn long.. now I need to chase up my $20 security deposit. Stuff Vaya and LC.

PM me if you want the name of the live-chat rep.

      • Oh wow, that works??

Also, what's the requirements for unidays?

        • +1

          Seems to be the case!
Here's the important snippets of the transcript. Took less than 5 minutes!

Optus Rep: Hi, this is Optus Rep, your Optus Sales Consultant, how can I help?
You: Hi Optus Rep, my friend is on the $40 10gb 12 month plan and I want in on the same thing. Can we strike a deal.
You:I think this was last month's offering of some sort
          You :$40 10gb / unlimited calls/text
Optus Rep: Okay, let me check that for you?
          You: Sure! thanks
Optus Rep: I'll Help you with that deal Is that okay for you If I organize a New Number for you?

.. followed by UniDays query for 10% student discount

You:Sure :) so just to confirm that would be $36 for unlimited calls/text, 10gb of data on a 12 month plan?
          Optus Rep:Yes, That's right.

To sign up for UniDAYS you'll need to also login through your university portal (they will open up the link for you) and they verify your student status somehow.. but I think if you can still login to your uni account it'll work for anyone.
I'm not sure, but it doesn't hurt to give it a go!

The only con is 12-month contract really, as we move onwards with the 4G data-centric shift.. 10gb may be cheaper in the next 12 months?
          Otherwise top value for money..

          alternatives include
          Amaysim - $39.90 / 28 days month-to-month, unlimited calls/texts + 7GB data
          Vaya - $36.00 per month month-to-month, unlimited calls/texts + 7GB data
          Telstra - MY deal -$50 12-month contract $1000 calls, 5gb data
          Boost Mobile - $40 prepaid, unlimited calls/texts 3gb + bonus 2gb every weekend (11gb total)
Kogan Mobile - $36.95 prepaid(?), unlimited calls/texts + 5GB data, or if you go the 365-day route which equates to $24.33 per 30 days.

          @xis123:
Signing up now, this is insane value. Even with a 12mo contract it's still quite decent.

Even in 12mo, 10GB with unlimited calls for $36 will be around an average price, if not still decent value.

Edit: $5 once-off fee datapool sims are no longer a thing apparently… That sucks a little. Only way is to pool a $10/mo dataplan with the $36/mo plan. Results in 11GB shared between two devices for $46/mo.
          Old plan: https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Document…

        • @xis123:
Just thought I'd let you know, you CAN get $5 data share sims with this plan. Just mention you're on the older "my plan plus sim only" plan at your local Optus shop.

It's mentioned in your contract that this is available:
          http://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents/CIS_$60_My_Plan_Plus_12M_SIM_Only.pdf

Edit: link isn't working, will fix later. For now Google "$60 my plan plus 12m sim only".

        • @dyl:

          @dyl

Thanks for the update man! The link is working for me. Were you able to strike a deal and get on the old plan as well? :)

          Cheers,

          xis123

        • @xis123: yeah sure was, chat was more than happy to get me on it. Also just set up my data sim. Still costs the usual $5, though it's still an amazing feature.

Just a note, full 100 point ID check required when signing up to the data sim plan as it's considered a contract which costs $0/mo and $5 once off.

  • $20 off your monthly home broadband bill if your eligible, so overall, you'll be paying $25

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/bundles/20-dollar-discount

    • +1

However broadband price has been lifted up if anyone notices.
      For example myself, I'm currently on $90 cable bundle + $50 Sim only plan - $10 discount - $5 UNIDAYS = $125
      If taking plan now, (same cable plan)$110 + +$50 sim only plan - $20 discount - $5 unidays = $135
Unless you take cheapest basic bundle plan ($80) and feels WIN.

  • Would really appreciate if someone could send me a code.
    Thanks.
