@UFO:
Yes but so many people have no idea about this and also the amount that is actually 'lost'
This issue only really affects 8gb and 16gb phones unless it is a surface pro which has taken heaps of data away from userFair call actually :).
16,000,000,000 byte = 14.9 giga byte
Reserve 3.4 giga byte for OS seems normal
Hi Everyone,
Seeing as Mother's day is upon us I am looking at getting mum a new phone (She's been using my handme down HTC One M7) Seeing as she is a very basic user who mainly just uses calls, text and the occasional photo taking will this be sufficient for her? I'm surprised she managed to get her head around Android so I'm expecting IOS to be a breeze for her.
It's only the 16GB model but after going through my old phone, she had only taken 34 photos over the last 12 months so I can't see this as a downside.

Is the Iphone SE worth it over this model, any better deals out there?
Thanks All
I would go for se
It's $679 for the SE - Worth the actual $280 excess?
It has better camera & processor if that's important to you.
Cheers mate, she thinks photos from an old school Nokia N95 looks good so the cheapie it is…
I've just bought one for mum for this reason! (thanks OP)
Mum takes a lot of photos of the kids when she baby sits them… and up till now has been using my old hand me down 3GS (still works fine… but camera is shait).
5s for $400 is a great mothers day 'upgrade' that benefits me too being that I get much better photos! :)

That's exactly my thoughts… i was umming are arghhing about whether to jump on this deal but weighed up all the pros and cons taking into account the person using it…
Pro's
* Amazing camera for a 54 year old non techyGreat build quality
IOS updates and support for at least 2 more years (If the 4S is aupported still why not?)
Simple and user friendly interface
Really no point in shelling out for a newer/better phone when those upgrades/features go to waste
I also got the interest free repayment so totally stoked with the deal :)
I'd go for SE, if your mom is planning on using the phone for a long long time.
SE is on par with 6s in terms of internals, 5s is adequate but still fairly old. SE is going to last longer. Also, I wouldn't say moving around OS is easy, my dad gets confused with iOS and refuses to use iOS for one.
I am probably considered to be a geek of sort, I am an Android user who used to root his phone, flash custom ROMs etc etc. With iOS, I did get lost few times while I was setting them up for my mom. It's not because iOS is harder to use, but because OSs are different. Thanks mate, i was tossing up the SE but couldn't juatify the extra $250 odd ontop especially when mum kept telling me she was happy using an old Iphone 4 until I pushed the HTC One onto her.
Bear in mind, the Iphone 4 was running like a dog and just swiping screens was so laggy. For the life of me i can't understand how some people don't notice these things.
My dad said he was fine with his Note 1 (which if you ask me, is awful, full stop, it in my opinion suffers from being a "first gen device"), so did my mom (with her iPhone 4, it may have been 4s, but I am about 90% sure it was 4). They kinda were reluctant on changing their phone (because it takes time to get a new plan yaddi yadda). They love their new phone (Note 3 and iPhone 6 respectively), so I think it depends on what devices you are used to. My mom was happy to an extent where she is now considering changing her phone this year as well (to a plus model).
I don't know, it probably is because I am a "tech geek" so I see these improvements to be larger than what people would perceive them to be (since I try to see what changed, how it's changed more in depth). I personally think additional $280 wouldn't be a bad choice in the long run (it's like around 10~20 dollars per months, if you use it for 2 years). Longer battery life, additional features and the fact that it's on par with 6s, in my opinion warrants longer usage, longer support, better user experience during usage etc etc.
Though as an Ozbargainer, I'd probably choose 3rd option. Wait till SE deals to pop up. Judging from how cheap it is in America and judging from how eBay promotions happen once in awhile, I'd wait until SE price becomes something lower.
I wouldn't deny that this is a cheaper and an adequate option for light uses for now though.
I am still using M7 and it still works great. If your mum is happy with it, let it be…..buy her some nice clothes or something instead. I doubt 5s is an upgrade over M7 anyway, considering M7 was widely regarded as the best phone of 2013.
All these hostilities toward Apple users made me a bit hesitate to comment, but I will comment anyway.
Don't be scared by the bullies, iPhone 5s is still a very capable phone that's likely going to last another 2 or more years. If you want to try iOS, iPhone 5s(or its upgrade, iPhone SE) would be a very good choice. The 16GB is a bit small, but if you don't game on your phone, you will be fine.
Has anyone tried (or had any success) to unlock this PREPAID iPhone for free using the Optus unlock links at http://www.optus.com.au/unlock
The web link says it is supposed to work with Pre-paid iPhones. I rang my local store and they said the method on the website would not unlock the phone and I would have to pay an unlock fee.
I also did an online chat with a sales person and they checked the web link and said that if the website says you can unlock it for free then you can.
Does anyone know what is correct?

Come on man… welcome to the future!
Of course it's free space is less than 16Gb… it has an operating system on it!
