Motorola Moto X Style (Unlocked & Unbranded), $299 from Vodafone (When Added to Plan)

2710

Was in my local Vodafone store doing an upgrade and found out about this bargain.

So Vodafone which had the X Style as an exclusive have dropped the RRP on the device to $299

From what I have been told not every store has stock and they are no longer able to order them in however Online has 100's of units remaining.
There are 2 ways to get the device (other than getting on a plan of course, which is $0 on every plan at Vodafone)

1) Added to a Vodafone Plan as an installment (cheaper this way) $12.45 per month for 24m or $24.90 per month for 12 months You can also get Vodafone to add to your plan in 1 installment of $299

2) REMOVED: Lots of feedback indicating that Stores are unable to sell outright, phone must be added to new or existing plan, have removed this info to prevent disappointment, you can try and find Outright.. but expect resistance.

I was happy to add the phone to my existing plan for the 12m

in store you can ONLY get the black model (one i got)
if you are a Vodafone customer and are going option 1 above, you can call them or go online and get the White Model if your prefer.

Stock is showing as 2-3 days from order approval at moment so still plenty in stock

Not a bad phone for the price.. battery is not awful but not awesome. (one day max apparently)

ordered black and white on 1 May around 8pm. received the black yesterday.

I'm trying to negotiate a nexus 6p as a replacement. let see how it goes

        • +2

Hmm, just got a text. Same order number, but it's been updated to black and it is being prepared for delivery… Good news then?

        • +1

@dodgey: I think you might be one of the last people to get one, congrats!

        • I did it after I read your comment and my order is with Auspost now, will be delivered tomorrow. So if you missed it, you can find the store that still have stock and they will do it for you in store at the same price. There should be note in the system already.

They even told me if the store couldn't do it, just proceed with the order at full price and call them up and they will put in the credit for the handset installment.

        • LOL Havent got it yet. I'll wait until it is in my hands before I jump for joy :D

        • I remember on Tuesday night, there is only White option, there is no other option for you to choose.

        • @dodgey: try to find a store with stock and get it instore

        • I had already tried 3 closest stores on Monday. None of them had stock…

      • I got one of my friends to order white Tuesday night, he only got around to chatting with them today.
There's no white or black stock, there "may be some in stores" but they won't do it for the same price. As far as they're concerned the payment plan never existed.
Guess I'm just not getting a Moto X Style :(

        • +1

You just need to go to the store and tell them that you order online but got no stock and was told by live chat that you can get the same deal in store. Ask them to call Sales team if they can't do it.

        • @samehada: Ooh! I found a store who says they have them in stock! Ooh boy, getting a phone shouldn't be such a rollercoaster of emotions. Thanks for the tip!

        • @samehada: Dammit. Apparently the person on the chat cancelled the order, so the rep at the Vodafone store wouldn't honour the original payment plan.

Anyone in Adelaide want the clear case and glass screen protector coming in the mail?

        • @Simoneister: Look, you need to call Vodafone upgrade team and tell them.
          - You have upgraded online White version and there are no stock
          - You chat with sales team and was advised that they can cancel the White order for you to go to store to get the Black model at the same price.
          - Live Chat team informed you that the store needs to call upgrade team for the sale to be put through.

The store may not be able to do it, you need to call Vodafone upgrade team when you are in store.

@samehada: Thanks for the help, and I'd go through with it if it were under my account, but it's not worth me spending my friend's time on this.

        • @Simoneister: Just give it a try and call them when you are in store :)

Thanks OP! Even though it was a public holiday in QLD on Monday, I still managed to get the very last one on Tuesday luckily enough!
They hadn't updated their pricing and it was still showing $299 but when we did the paperwork it was showing $850, thankfully they honoured the discount :)
Very happy with this phone, appreciate the post :)

    • same thing happened to me and they wouldn't do it for the cheaper price

  • They wouldnt let me buy yesterday even though i had shown them receipt from an ozbargainer here

    • That sucks! It's always the luck of the draw with these kind of deals! There was a lot of phone calls being made to get the deal done, wasn't 100% sure it was going to happen myself!

  • I ordered around noon time on Monday 2nd via website. Black only, couldn't choose white. Added to my current vodafone contract. Arrived today 4th. Now waiting for my case and glass screen protector before I will use.

Amazing OP! So so so much thanks for this post!!!!!

  • Got mine today. Setting it up now. Nice screen and camera is pretty sharp. Gotta say it's a bit on the heavy side though. But for $300 I really can't complain!

  • +2

For those who bought the phone with a $30 monthly sim, don't forget to check when your billing cycle ends, otherwise you may end up being billed for an additional month.

I signed up Monday and found my billing cycle was due to end tomorrow on Thursday. Suffice to say my services are now disconnected :)

    • From my discussion with the staff when I went in store, apparently the first few days are 'free' and that you'll be charged $30 regardless of when you cancel it.

      • For those who recently signed a plan to buy this phone you can cancel the plan and pay for any usage used if any and save the 30 bucks.

        Here is the link http://www.vodafone.com.au/aboutvodafone/network

        • must be returned in original packaging.

Doesn't this mean you have to return the phone too?

        • @ChillBro:

He's cancelling the plan not the phone.

        • @orange123:

Just called, they told me the that the first month had to be charged regardless of the network guarantee and said it was most likely due to the cheap price of the phone and how the plan was set up. Happy to hear different experiences other people have had though.

Just picked up my Phone for the Post Office

    Thanks OP

  • +1

So great deal and phone but after a day of Vodafone I can't stand the reception is terrible

    • +3

That's unfortunate. At the moment, where I am, Vodafone has better reception than Telstra or Optus, so I guess I'm lucky :) (That's 2 bars for Voda, none for Optus, and 1 for Telstra)

      • yeah I'm on the gold coast and vodafone is great here

  • +1

Just to update. they replaced the moto x with nexus 6P. Order online at RRP and they will just put a monthly credit to bring it down to moto x price.
got an sms and email tracking that it is being prepared for delivery.

    • +2

      You lucky bastard.

    • +2

That's wonderful news for you! Well done! :)

Now aren't you glad I got your last Moto X Black ;) hehehe

    • This is from Voda rep: "You get free headset and case when you get a Nexus 6P on a $40 and $80 or higher plan."
Did you get any other offer, if yes please let us know…

    • Also, can you post your receipt here pls?

      • I don't have a receipt as I ordered it online at RRP. They will just put a monthly credit to my bill for 24 months on my existing service to bring down the price. so basically I will be billed at $33/mo and a credit amount of around $20/mo to bring it down to around 13/mo.

please note that I have two postpaid services with them that will expire next month. I manage to get black MotoX and tied one of them. on the second service i ordered white MotoX which they replaced with nexus 6P.

So i guess you need to have an existing postpaid service with them to negotiate or I'm just lucky…heheheh.

        • Lucky indeed!

Looks like Vodafone came through for me. They swapped from white to black, and the status has changed to being delivered by Australia Post.

Don't think it will arrive until next week, but it's still a phone :D

    • For $13 u r getting 32GB 6P? Wow that is so lucky!

  • My black one just arrived in the post. Thanks again OP, $299 is a great price for this phone. I hope those that missed out receives a good equivalent.

  • Ordered a black with monthly plan via phone on Monday. Delivered this morning, only that I received two SIM cards, with no phone.

I did call them right away when I saw both order confirmation emails were SIMs. The rep said that was a mistake and asked me to wait for a couple of days. Now it's out of stock. Such a disappointment.

    • Oh this is disappointing. I got one sim delivered to work yesterday and the second item still listed as 'processing' but description is another SIM…

Did they offer to put it on back order or anything? I'll be very sad to miss out on it due to this error on their behalf

  • I ordered one on the 2nd of May and my tracking status hadn't updated. I've just done a live chat and told they ran out …

  • someone on gumtree selling it for $400 is it worth for that price ? just two days old ?

    • +1

      Depends on what you want.
You may want Xiaomi MI 5 for just $70 more https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/243536
or Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Prime for around $300.

The selling point of Moto X style in this price is local warranty, close to stock android, better camera. But i personal find it a bit too big.

      • +1

If you youtube moto x style or pure edition, vs other phones, you will want moto x style more than ever imo.

But if your hands are small or just not liking 2 hands playing with the phone, then get something else.

I used iphone 6 Plus so i actually love moto x being smaller in height with same big screen.

So even at $400 is worth it. 5.7 can't get you cheaper with previously being an American company (now Lenovo), and motorola has the best "signal" in the industry.

I ordered by phone On Monday but got cancelled today as they don't have any stock in warehouse.
Guy on the phone advised to look for stock in Vodafone store and they can give me at same price of $299.
Picked one at Melbourne city store. ;)

    • Well done! Did they have to contact support to somehow verify you had originally placed the order at $299?

      • Yeah I been contacted by resolution team and they left a note in my account for vadofone store to call them. Girl in store was really helpful as she was on phone for 43 Mins. You don't really see this stores.

        • Which Melb store? I have the same note on my account but the Bourke St store said there's no stock anywhere…

        • It was at Elizabeth st, Call before you go as they only had 1 in stock when I got it

        • Thanks. Got one from Box Hill

  • +2

My order for Moto X Style whilte got cancelled but I managed to get the Nexus 6P for $13 a month on 24 months contract.
I currently have post paid service with Vodafone.

    • +1

What did you do to organise that?

      • I did online chat and enquired about the order status of Moto X Style and as expected received the response that order is cancelled because of out of stock.

I gently requested what better they can do as I am an existing post paid customer. The customer rep said he can do Nexus XP for $33/month and I bargained it to be $13/month.

        • Got my Nexus 6P today..

        • +1

          @bargainrus:
Well done. I was told they may have Black Moto X Style come in next week so just gonna wait and see before I push for a 6P

  • Yay! Thanks OP! Mine arrived today apparently. From White, to Black :D

    • +4

Just got home and checked and they sent me a Moto X Play 16 Gb :(

Am returning it and probably will cancel the contract. Not worth the hassle for me :)

  • Started live chat. Ended up having a call from voda. They are going to order new stock from supplier hence canceled my order and put a new one for the same price 299

  • I haven't opened mine as i am still waiting for case and screen protector, so may i ask if your moto x is having a marshmallow straight out from box or lollipop?

    • +1

My black unit came with Lollipop, and the Marshmallow update was a ~650MB download.

  • Cancelled the $30 plan on 03/05. Got a bill today for$308.80. Very happy.

    • How did you cancel the month to month plan?

  • +2

FYI -, I'm looking at my bill.. I was charged $816 for the phone.

    • +1

Yikes u better go back to voda and ask. Is yours outright or postpaid?

      • +1

Thanks, yeah I'm not worried.. Just not looking forward to wasting time on the phone..

    • +1

I just checked my bill for outright purchase and it was $816, even when the sales team confirmed it was $299 when I ordered. What was the response when you called?

      • I went in store. Apparently will take a couple of days to show up on the bill. They didn't question my story at all.

Will let you know when it's sorted.

      • Confirmed they did reduce the price to the agreed. Hope you sorted yours, too.

  • +2

Well thankfully a well-rounded experience for me. I cancelled the plan today. Total cost for me will be $329.00. I'm pretty impressed with the phone. It runs smoothly and the screen and front speakers are better than expected. The speakers are fantastic! The 808 processor could be better, but it certainty keeps things moving OK. I also bought a Supcase black/black case and it feels great. Overall it's a great phone for a killer price. Thanks OP. Onto the next deal :)

    • It feels premium in the hand, and Doze on MM really extends battery life. My X Style screen runs noticeably warmer/yellow than my original Moto G LTE though, which is a bit strange.

    • How did you cancel the month to month plan?

      • I just called 1300 650 410 number and cancelled with an operator earlier in May. I just got my bill today, and I was only charged $298.98. Luckily I was never charged the $30 SIM only fee.

  • +2

got my nexus 6p earlier. looks great so far

    • Nice!! I'm still waiting for the return bag to return the Play. They've already charged me for the first month. :(

I've already got a supcase and glass screen protector for the moto x style. :(

Anyone looking for a case and screen protector for the Moto X Style?? hehehehe

      • for free?

        • I have a free glass screen protector for it for anyone who wants to pick it up. Top Ryde :D

        • -5

          @dodgey:

Are you able to post it ?

        • hehe, it's already free. I'm moving home atm, so not right now :)

  • Ergh missed out as always. Hucksters on Gumtree selling them for $450-500. Surely <$400 would still be reasonable profit.

    • Well from their point of view. BNIB sales on ebay and gumtree is 700+. So of course they will try to sell it at $500… I'm trying to get my hands on one for <$400 myself…

      • Yep, same here, but that's the way it goes.

  • +2

I picked up one off Gumtree today, she was asking $450 but I offered $350 and she kindly accepted. I cannot believe these were reduced to $299 but they made it such a hassle to buy, a true OzBargain that's rarely seen these days.

  • maybe noone would come to this post again, but anyone has their phone with the volume and power button a bit loose. Feel like the shutter button on the camera where you can half-press to focus and full press to make it works.

  • Can the phone still be had on this price?

    • No

    • Look on Ebay or Gumtree, I got mine for $350, which is not too bad for such a good phone with 2 years of warranty. Some others are being sold on Ebay for around $400 as well.

  • Okay I think I'm screwed. Last two days I was charged for the Moto Style X on my bill even though I didn't ended up receiving one (out of stock). Initially bought it for $50*6months contract. Called them up to notify them, and instead of deleting the moto x out of their system, they just credit me the full $299 on my account. Therefore I did not need to pay my bill of $74 this month.

Im currently on a casual, month to month contract for $24 p/m. Im guessing my next bill will be $74 again (50+24). What if I decide to port my number to another carrier in the next month or so (very likely). Will I have to pay the remaining amount of the handset that I never got in the first place or will the remaining credit of $226 offset it? If not, then Im stuck on the "casual plan" for 6 months or so (dont want to pay the handset off) because of the moto x in the system. Also I will have to bulk pay my casual bill at the end if I decided to port out.

I heard somewhere that they cant just delete the moto x out of their system, so this wil complicate things in the future for me. Missed out on the deal and ended screwing myself? I really dont have the energy to talk and explain to them zzzz.

    • +1

Sorry for the long post; just got out of a work on a stressful day and wanted to sort it out. Nevertheless, I sort it out on chat :) Cheers. Congrats to those who got the moto x for $299 by the way :)
