Mi5 is better value than the Mi6

    • Absolutely, but not everyone is after value. That said, for a Xiaomi product, I do kind of expect more value. About half the price I'd pay for an equivalent Samsung. When the S6 was new, I got it off an ebay 20% off deal for around $640 plus cashback. That's only about $160 more for a Samsung branded product over a Xiaomi, whose shtick is insanely cheap pricing compared to other flagships.

It's a reasonable price, but I'd want a bigger discount first, or wait for a big discount on S7. If you compare prices undiscounted, this price is much more favorable.

  • Any deals on the 128gb version?

  • presumably this has no LTE Band 28 (700Mhz) ?

    • +2

Europe has just reserved 700mhz for future phone use so will be a while until we see phones that aren't targeted at apac having band 28 or big brands that want a global model. it's just firmware but the market outside of China is so small for these phones they don't do all bands used globally unlike iPhone or Samsung . their other big market is India which doesn't use band 28 or they would include it.

my son has the redmi note2 as he loves phablets for his games which is great for under $200 au but if I was paying more I think id be looking at full band coverage…. the Samsung s5 pops up at just under $ 400 sometimes and are waterproof and full band coverage and is I'm sure somebody will say the Chinese phones are faster or come with biometric scanner. depends if you need bands or processor speed once you have a 1080p screen….. cheap 1080p screen is where these Chinese phones have a niche.

redmi note2 32gb is great value for under $200 if you don't mine no band 28.
