  • Can these be unlocked for use with overseas SIM cards while travelling ?

    • The Optus 4G modem sold by Coles a few weeks ago on special is unlocked ($29 with 8GB usually $69 with 4GB)

Running Vodafone prepaid sim off it atm ($50 sim for $25 was meant to be 6GB + 4 bonus but ended up with 8 and 14 bonus - no idea why as yet also Coles)

      • Which Modem was sold by Coles, please? I nearly bought a Optus 4g one yesterday, but was told it wouldn't be much different to 3g Speeds and have read it's a problematic Modem. It was this one, Optus Huawei E8372 Car Wi-Fi Modem. thanks.

        • Found it, I think that one Coles had on Sale is better then the one I saw, but who knows. I have 3G Modems, so they will do for now.

        • @Rebelstorm:

I have the E8372 Modem- Optus branding.

Just did a test with a Note 4 Samsung and that modem next to one another
speeds were pretty close. ($800 item against $60 ! approx)

        • @snappy1234: Good to know, probably sold out now though. cheers.

Did you happen to see the Huawei E8372 on sale, or was it just the $69 RRP most retailers seem to be selling them at?

Currently looking for the E8372 (or comparable wingle) to use with an Android car head unit, but it doesn't seem to go on sale like the dongles do.

    • Hoppo… Using one of the E5251s-2 $15 wifi ones now… I put the imei into optus for unlock code and it said none needed for this device as it is not locked.

  • Ahh Ok I am looking for a good mobile broadband to travel with using overseas SIM cards … not have to be a dongle but performance matters

    Any tips ?

vodafone r208 works pretty well and its unlocked too.

      • yes saw the were on sale for $19 at one point … great deal

        maybe again some time

      • I tried to use my r208 in Japan recently and despite correctly setting up my APN, it was never correctly connecting - said "connected" then immediately reverted to "disconnected". Was using a docomo sim. Next time I am there, will try a softbank sim.

        • thats because in japan youre not allowed to tether the data.

  • Same deal also available at K Mart. Picked up one of the wifi $15 ones today… both packs include 2gb data.
