Pretty good alternative to MS Surface and comes with keyboard and pen included. 8GB RAM 512GB SSD and M7 processor.
Update: Seems like the $1438 price may only have been for the weekend so I've expired the deal.

Why?
Anyone know if this has LTE?
Nope :(.
No LTE on this model just the has SD card reader as a slot. Apparently LTE (according to http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2015/12/hp-spectre-x2-detachable-2…) is only for the international market
Thanks nibbs!
Here's the cheaper version $976

M3-6Y30 VS M7-6Y75 (on higher spec version)
128GB SSD
4GB RAM
How does this compare to the macbook air? Have been using mac for the last 4 years and was wondering if its worth changing. Thanks
This model has more RAM and more storage (really needed these days). Obviously running Windows only. Arguably the MacBook air has a faster CPU but not by much. This has slightly better versatility being a convertible tablet. Spec wise substantially cheaper than the Air and more so than the new pink MacBook.
But keep in mind the MacBook Air leaves everyone for dead in terms of battery times. Personally I have the Surface Pro 4 and love it, but I know for some the battery would be a real deal breaker…
True.and this model at 10 hours would please most users at this price point
Well.. the Macbook Air 13" is a bit bigger enough to fit a bigger battery. So not surprising it does have a slightly (2 hr) better quoted battery life whilst the Air 11" is only a 9 hr. It is true that OSX does have a better power management system than Windows, so if you did try to run Windows on bootcamp, then battery life will be on par to be honest.
12 hours on a MBA 13? wow i'd be lucky to get 5-6 hours on mine even when it was new.
@poop: Hence why I said "quoted battery life" (from the manufacturer). Obviously mileage differs depending if you are leaving it on doing nothing, browsing the net, editing a document, watching adult movies or playing an intensive sophisticated game.
@bchliu: damn sorry missed that! wait what? you can watch adult movies on your computer these days?!
@poop: My my.. Anything rated MA+ is adult movies right? Obviously that doesnt include Dora the Explorer or The Wiggles.
Does anyone know how to claim the cashback?
Bizarrely, I ended up getting the link from JB HIFI. Try http://h41201.www4.hp.com/AdLanding/au/en/6429/
Yeah.. No info about this in Harvey Norman website. I too got it from Jb hifi.
Thanks for the deal OP. My friend bought it.
Btw, anyone know any comparably priced alternatives?
If you're after value and quality, you can't go past clevo.
Love the extra memory and SSD over its rivals. These boxes are almost (if not) impossible to upgrade yourself so best to get it as high spec as possible to begin with. Only let down is that the Surface has potentially more powerful CPUs over this Core M7. Apparently for the smaller burst type tasks, it matches the dual core i7's, but for the more complex and heavier ones, it is beaten by an i3. Games are still unplayable too from the onboard graphics.
the price has dropped like crazy since october last year: https://www.pricehipster.com.au/product?id=Ek99zvZbl
Have to remember that link. The box i got mine in still had the original $2999 price. Poor guy at HN looked quite insulted when I said nobody would touch it at that price!
Hahaha, I followed my friend to pick it up at Hardly Normal, the guy treated my friend like a thief! He wanted evidence of a credit card when paypal was used…and the email said you didn't need a credit card if you used paypal. Made him jump through a few identity hoops since his ID had his middle name too. I told him to ring the phone number on the receipt to confirm ID but he wouldn't listen…
If I remember right, the USB C/3.1 on this is Rev A or 1 or what have you, which does not support display over USB C, so you will need an adapter of some kind to do display output over usb.
This is indeed a concern.. Will be using it for presentations at work so a bit not sure now. hmm..
It should work, here is an adapter thats compatible:
https://h20386.www2.hp.com/AustraliaStore/Merch/Product.aspx…
Reading up pretty much says that only the HP USB-C peripherals will work with it. Other brands dont.
I doubt that would be the case, where did you read that ?
EDIT: you could get a docking station
@amir aljaberi: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Qu…
Number of people talk about it on their own support forums..
@amir aljaberi: BTW.. the Docking station is only for the previous version of the X2 (different type of connector and looks more like a netbook). Not the new version (which is more like the Surface).
Something like this should work:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=12172…
It seems HP block charging through 3rd party adapter but docking station like the one above should have their own power.
Wow..wife just got a grey import entry level, outdated macbook air for more than $1300. With those specs, this is a steal for a productivity machine. A little heavy to use as a tablet, but you do get 12" of viewing glory
good deal but had bad experience with Hp,anyone can find better deal over hp?thx
Dell xps? Rrp is around $2000 though
hows asus zenbook?
Personally I'm not a fan of either hp nor asus machines. My advice would be to increase your budget if need be. There's no point in spending $1300 on something you won't be happy with
That's why you buy HP's elitebook (business notebook). :p
I also do not like their consumer stuff.
@cDNA: does it still come with bloatware?
It's really easy to uninstall man.
This is what I do:
WIndows 10 takes less than 15 minutes to reinstall. Just get the product key, use a USB flash drive with the windows 10 ISO on it and install windows 10 again.
@cDNA: Does the inbuilt Windows 10 reset reinstall bloatware?
This looks to be old stock, as the Spectres are already using i5 and i7's. Add to that it is a 12 inch screen, which is pretty small!
Wrong. This spectre is the touchscreen, stylus, core M version that a lot of business people use. It's like a 2 in 1.
Congratulations for reading the product details! But you are wrong, when I said 'Old Stock' it is, the model has been superceded by the HP Spectre x360. The Spectre x2 was released in October 2015 the Spectre x360 was released April 2016. Hence they are having a sale to push out the old stock and make room for the newer model. Your apology will be accepted any time.
Just a quick note to say I've been trialing the battery life. Installation and setup 60%, some YouTube/Spotify 20% and iView 20%. Seems to be averaging 8.5 hours.
I bought this as a replacement for a Galaxy Note 10.2 so battery life and compact size are important to me. As a replacement for the Galaxy, I can't find much to fault at this price.
If it is of any interest, mine was built on 19/10/15 (according to program installation) and was power on tested on 13/02/16.
I followed the link but the HN websites says 1799 instead of 1438?where did you guys get that price? Or is the deal ended already? If that's the case it should be marked…
More like pretty good alternative to Apple's new Macbook.
