You'd still have to be drunk to want an iPhone SE for this price.

    Each to their own though.

ASk the average AUstralian which is the better phone. They'll probably say iphone even though they don't know what a CPU or RAM is.

      thank me later

Of course, but we're Ozbargainers… we don't buy to look good to the Average Australian. We buy good stuff at good prices.

This is a good price for the 5SE

So you are upset average Australians don't know the working components of a computer?

        • yes

I am still running an iPhone 5s … but its still fast enough for everything I do. So I might save some money and don't upgrade.

      • I think most flagships from 2013 still run fast enough. The newer phones are usually fraction of a second faster at launching apps. Its only games loading times where you see a huge difference in speed. Who plays games on a 4 inch phone? You updating the extra for future support, better camera, better battery life and the improvement to the screen.

      • Same as me, it's fast enough, but it doesn't have NFI for apple pay so I can get my $5 cash back from Amex - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/242570

      • I got the iPhone SE 64gb on launch day. Great phone - blazingly fast, super battery life, awesome camera, disconnected 'Hey Siri'. However, it's as you said, the 5s is good enough for me for now so I returned it 2 weeks later for a full refund.

Also, the Apple logo on the back is a separate piece of stainless steel and the edges don't have that shiny finish.

same CPU and most other specs as the 6S but for (almost) half the price.

  • not appealing

  • +4

prefer local stock for %10 more.

  • Whats the camera like on se?

    • like one on 6s

      • Except the front facing one which is worse than the 6s

I tried living with a 4 inch screen phone but it's too much of a compromise. I also think for this price Apple could have provided a better front facing camera. The rest of the phone is quite good. I hope the next Sony compact phone is good, wouldn't mind a small phone, but with a screen closer to 5 inches. :)

    • 2011 me laughs at such a ridiculous comment.

You missed the key point that only the ugly colours are available.

Did they bump prices? pretty sure they did….
    64GB kogan ebay - AU $851.99
    64GB kogan - AU $829.00 (same as apple.com.au)

  • Rose gold only for the 64? Yuk! No thanks!

Apple selling for $679 including tax, so, I don't think this one is a good price for grey import even if you have decided to buy this model.

  • US price (for 64GB) is USD499 ~= AUD639 so it would be nice to see a bit lower a price for a grey market import.

    • AU$640+ tax = AU$710 or thereabouts

      • Why should it be taxed? It's under the threshold.

        • Just saying, for a point of comparison, the Australian retail price should be around $710+…even factoring in a low AUD, AU$750 tops. Apple's RRP of $829 is rubbish.

        • @twister292: If you compare it with iPad Pro 9.7, it does look like they've added fair bit of margin on iPhone SE.

Calculating the exchange rate they would've used (using the base model for each devices), assuming no other costs other than GST (added onto US Price in calculation):
          iPad Pro 9.7 would've been USD $1: AUD $1.36.
iPhone SE would've been USD $1: AUD $1.55.
The XE.com rate is around USD $1: AUD $1.30 right now, on the day of keynote it was USD $1: AUD $1.32 (21st of March).

I do want to see Apple re-adjusting the price for iPhone SE in Australia, apparently price in Japan got re-adjusted today or something like that due to exchange rate changes.

  • Where is the deal?! Bought my iPhone SE 64gb from Big W for $758. For as little as $30 more you get Australian stock with proper warranty (not mentioning that you can get $75 back claiming TRS GST on it). And yes, I got it straight away! Didn't have to wait weeks for shipping!

Price explanation: Big W is selling them currently for $818 and than I applied 7.5% off BIG W deal

    • Can you get trs if you buy with gift cards? If I buy it at big w , it's less than 1000 and doesn't have my name on invoice, do they need proof I bought it?

Also do all big w stock the se?

      • +1

Yes, you can. You can get TRS no matter what payment method you use if you see GST amount shown on your receipt.
So you can't only claim GST on purchase of giftcards themselves as goods (Gift cards are simply a 'transfer of currency', and therefore do not attract GST.) That's basically the difference.

Your receipt and matching goods you carry should be enough. There was topic exactly on Big W claims, where someone posted their accepted receipt for iPhone 6 paid with gift cards.

Tight stock of new iPhone SE everywhere is another sad story. Recently read from an american article, that you can hardly find one in retail anywhere in New York and all major capital cities around the world. Hm…

I know at least 4 Big W stores in Sydney had them, but most are already sold out. Bought mine from BIG W Pagewood (nearest to Sydney CBD). I took the last 64 GB model, but there were 2 of 16 GBs in Rose Gold left. Don't remember exact price on them but also cheaper than RRP, smth around ~$640
