Its not a bad machine the remote buttons sometimes stick, on to my second one now as the first had a problem with the rear power button.

Getting the right thumb drive has been a bit hit and miss for me, it doesnt seem to like playing back recorded content but downloaded movies etc are fine.

Was definietly a good buy at 70, at 79 its still pretty good

  • Thanks for the heads up. I know I have also had problems with finding thumb drives that are compatible with my machine (can't think what brand it is) some will play fine, it won't recognise others…

  • does the $10 shipping discount coupon code still work?

  • do they accept payment via PayPal?

  • Looks like the code TBCGAPR2010 does still work for free shipping, you need to enter it on the Payment page under 'I have a discount coupon'.

Yes, they do accept PayPal. :)

  • this PVR was selling on ozstock for $69.95 couple weeks ago.

  • how do people find the recording part of it.

Does the recording part of it actually works or just a gimmick to get people to buy the unit.
I am planning on connecting a 2.5" external Hard disk to it.

  • Does this record in HD?

    • Yes. It records with H264 code.

  • Just something to be aware of …

Important Notice: This is a PRE-SALE item which will arrive in our warehouse at the end of Apr. All orders are expected to be despatched at beginning of May

  • mine records fine but the files are enormous… like 1hr = 4Gb

not a huge issue since i put the stick into my i7 box and compress them down

  • What is this product like as a media centre?

I download a lot of movies/tv series in various formats. How does it handle divx, avi, etc?

    • Divx files only according to its manual I bought one from ozstock last time

  • does anyone know if this PVR can do scheduled time or EPG recording? And what format does it record in? I am also looking at a similar unit at DSE.

    • Yes it does schedule recording and also as above it records in h264

  • I saw a Topfield brand version of this on clearance at Target for $108. Original price was $230, and it had been discounted a few times, with various price tags and tickets floating around it.

It's also an HD set top box with usb input for external hard drive, except it can accept up to 1tb, plus it's Topfield brand/quality. Only $18 more than this when considering shipping.

However, this might not be a nationwide deal, and the store i saw it at only ha 1 unit left.

    It's the Topfield TPF-7120:- http://www.itopfield.com.au/product-detail.asp?idx=239

I would have bought it myself if it had twin tuners, and wasn't Freeview crippled. But otherwise a good buy, cheap way to a PVR with a $100 1tb external drive, or a $75 500gb drive.

    • Could you explain what you mean by 'freeview crippled'?

I'm assuming this has something to do with having a single tuner? No idea what that actually means though.

      • No, nothing to do with having a single tuner.

From what i've read, if your device (PVR) has Freeview labelling on it, then you can't skip through the commercials using the skip button. I believe you can still use the fast forward button.

Freeview offers no benifit that i can see. It's just a fancy name for all the new digital channels like GO, 7two, One, SBS2, SBS3, ABC2, ABC3, etc.
These channels are available regardless of freeview branding. I don't know enough about it, but i have heard several people talking about the freeview crippling.
Freeview branded versions of PVR's usually cost more, because the PVR manufacturer has to pay freeview for this branding. To be honest, i can't work out what the deal with it is, i think i'll do some more research.
