Dan Murphy's 6% Cashback on Gift Card Purchases Via Cashrewards

311

Got this as spam a few moments ago, 6% off dan murphys gift cards via Cashrewards. I think its available to everyone.

Normally 5% off via Woolworths gift cards, but 6% discount via Dan murphys PLUS your usual cashrewards cashback, so a grand 1% better.

drawbacks: only valid at Dan murphys and not woolworths

it also says cashback INCREASE, however I thought cashback for gift cards was always zero. so increase is technically incorrect, and should be "introduction"
Ps if anyone knows ways to combine more discounts to get bigger discounts, please post as I shop at dans twice weekly!

  • Can we purchase dm gift cards with woolies egift vouchers?

    • that would be awesome! I think I tried it once and the gift card payment option was either greyed out or removed

    • Generally you aren't allowed to purchase gift cards with other gift cards

  • Was just about to post this myself as I think it's a great deal.

Btw, hardly spam if you see value in it! Spam would be truly rubbish emails.

Also, this is can be used at Woolies as reported by quite a number of people in a recent Dan Murphy's AMEX statement credit deal. I have also used it myself at Woolies and can confirm it works.

In addition, using Platinum Edge AMEX credit card to pay for this will net you 3pts/$, so that is awesome too.

All in all - great deal, good first post.

edit: You mention it was previously 0% cashback on gift cards. I believe it was not 0% and was ~3% (again, info from the recent AMEX statement credit deal for Dan Murphy's online). However, it was a bit ambiguous because of their breakdown in categories for cashback, and they had no specific mention for gift cards. Adding to the confusion, gift cards normally aren't eligible for cashback, so this is the clearest you can get. It is explicitly stated that you will get cashback on gift cards.

edit 2: 7% cashback for all other things. Buy gift cards with 6% cashback then use the gift cards to buy other stuff with 7% cashback? Hm but the deal may have expired by then..

    • I usually shop dans for 5% spirits, 3.5% beers cashback PLUS the 5% woolworths discount,
so I assume with this deal, you buy the gift card with your credit card, get 6% back via cash, and then get the additional discount as per usual,

if you could buy DM gift card with woolies cards, that would be ridiculous!

edit: just checked, cannot pay for gift cards with gift card, only gives credit card and paypal

      • What "additional discount"?
Yea buy the gift card with whatever card, get 6% cashback via CashRewards, and then I'm saying potentially then use your new shiny gift card to purchase the stuff off Dan Murphy's online as you would anyway and get cashback via CashRewards for these purchases too. However, the 7% cashback would've probably dropped off by then.

These rates expiry 26 April 11:59pm AEST according to the email.

OP, there is a bit of confusion here. As I read it there is 0% discount on the card purchase plus 6% cashback (in 60 days if you're lucky enough for the tracking to work).

In my opinion I'd rather guaranteed 5% discount upfront and 0% cashback.

agree with your wording - in fact I reported exact same to mods 18 mins prior to your comment so they can fix up the title of this post!

I'm in Vic. Bought the e-gift card from the Amex deal, I can confirm that it worked for me at Woolworths store and online order. Worked at Caltex/Woolworths petrol station too (as e-gift card), but not accepted at Caltex only station (as they only accept physical Woolworths gift card, but not e-gift card).

      • Caltex-only stations shouldn't accept any Woolies related stuff now I believe.

  • Beat me by 60 seconds. hehe!
My only reservation about CashRewards is "Is there any follow up that can be done if they fail to track your purchase and you fail to get the cash back? "

I've tweeted them a few times about a large missing transaction and never got a response..

      • +3

Tweeted? Did you try their online "report your missing transactions here" service?

      • +1

I've reported (using their website) a huge ($200+ in cash back) transaction that wasn't tracked, and they sorted it for me. Why would you message them on twitter?

        • I have reported a missing transaction. Took them 6 weeks and 3 more reports for them to get back to me. My experience was they weren't very responsive.

        • @bargain_knight:

Aren't the fastest to respond or resolve, but I've managed to get 1 transaction approved and 1 did not qualify in the first place.

        • Sorry, I've NEVER not got a response back via Twitter before..

Didn't know that form existed. Will try it now.

Not worth the risk for just 1% extra.

Woolworths giftcard are always 5% off when u pay and more places to use

This deal u need to pay full amount and get the 6% back 3-4 months later, or sometimes cant even track the cashback

    • You can use these just like WISH gift cards

Can't entirely disagree with the tracking unreliability, but if you are bothered to keep track then sure this can definitely be worth it

      Btw I didn't neg you.

    • I agree with you. I'd rather get 5% off now, then 6% cashback in 4 months time.

      • +3

So, a total of 11% discount? Or, did you mean than* ?

        • Thanks for the typographical correction.

        • No, 6 or 5%.

      • 6% cash back maybe.

    • +2

Agreed - Cashrewards is too unreliable for a possible extra 1%

    • -6

Agreed. Getting 5% off tax free > getting 6% back months later and having to pay tax on it (since it's classified as income).

      • +3

No. It is definitely 100% NOT income and telling anyone it is is completely irresponsible when you don't know what you're talking about!

I'm being firm in my response because i want to make sure no one thinks you're right and starts declaring their cashbacks as income o_0

      • Such irresponsible idiotic response. Please do not mislead people with false statements.

  • +1

I suggest you change your title to "6% cash back" rather than "6% off"

  • +1

please notice that up to 90 days to get your cashback compare with you get 5% off instantly

Cashback website shouldn't be consider as deal. you wont know if you will get it. I did a lot of transactions on different websites using Cashrewards with different browsers some didn't get track

    • I think they're still a deal, but each posting should mention there's some risk in not getting the cashback at all.

Cash Rewards has generally been very good for me, but a couple of ebay cashbacks took weeks to register. One Etsy cashback was accepted, but then listed as Rejected a few weeks later. CR is investigating but I haven't heard anything about the case for almost two weeks.

  • It's worth mentioning that cashrewards customer service is outstanding, if your transaction isn't tracked, you can show them the receipt and you might get the cashback anyway.

  • Only worth buying it in this way when there are AMEX Dan Murhphy deals!

I had a DM cashrewards transaction that didn't track. I raised a claim, emailed them the invoice and they sorted it out in a couple of weeks. No dramas really.
