AMEX Velocity Platinum Card 80,000 Velocity Points ($349 Annual Fee & 65k+ Income)

This deal is has been around before with many different variations. It has gone as high as 100k Velocity Points in the past but this is the best I can currently see.

The fee is $349 p.a and you need to have an income of $65k+. It is a lower stakes game to the deal posted by JHEyebrows a couple of months ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/236605 and the fee is much less substantial. Better bang for the FF point buck.

-Receive 50,000 bonus Velocity Points when you apply, are approved and spend $500 on your new Card within the first 3 months.

-This introductory offer is available to new American Express Card Members only.

-Earn up to 3 Velocity Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases

-Complimentary Virgin Australia return domestic flight after your first Card spend each year.

  • Enjoy 2 complimentary Virgin Australia lounge invitations each anniversary year at selected airports

  • 4.0% p.a. on balance transfers for the first 12 months

  • Complimentary domestic and international travel insurance

  • Discounted International Business Class Companion Fares

I was sent this as a referral deal in the mail and not sure if it is available without a link but it's a pretty sweet deal. My referral link is as follows but feel free to go it alone and not use the link or a friends if desired:

  • I thought it's a deal and there in no fee for the card at least for the first year.. :(

    • I have never seen this card with free first year, it would be sooooo amazing though but it wouldn't happen. You get a free domestic return flight plus 80k points, they wouldn't give that away for free.

      • +1

Platinum edge which also gives a free flight has been free for the first year. Actually I think that deal is still available via Priceline

  • 80k velocity or 75k qantas (with anz) hmmm, I really can't decided which FF to go with

    • Keep in mind that the ANZ offer has no annual fee for the first year.

      • Ultimately depends on how many points per dollar as well.

  • Original deal post (6+ mths) here..with some very useful comments. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/213653
You should add your referral link details to the Referral Wiki ? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals

This is still one of the better offers going around, IMO just as good as the ANZ offer due to the Velocity pts and free flight.

    • Yep all referral links at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals… are now linking to this 80K deal

    • +3

And to be fair (would hope this is in the OZB posting rules as well!?), you should remove the direct link (even as txt) from the post and note that any referral links used give the referrer 20k pts for themselves :) :)

      • Possibly he was trapped like I was recently when posting a deal. Initially only MY link would link to the bonus page, and the refferal list would not. And then, some time after I posted, the whole referral list worked in getting to the bonus page. Posting on Ozb can be a fraught, even when the motivation is 'for the good of others'.

        • What is a fraught?

        • @Diji1: Getting belted by neggers! Sorry "a" was a typo.

  • Is it 50000 or 80000 who keeps changing it

    • It is 50K unless you go thru one of the refferals from OzB Wiki etc, in which case it is 80K. I think that a moderator has been tidying up the post.

      • 80k is suddenly worth it!

  • +1

The same deal posted earlier this week was deleted and redirected to the original offer which has been running for about 6 months or so.

  • I literally signed up last week and assumed I'd get 50k. Any way to try and claim the 80k before they credit the points? The cars on arrived on Friday

    • You only get 80 if you use someones referral link. The referrer then also gets 20k points for 'helping you join' Amex. If you didn't use a link to apply, there is no way to go back and get them.

  • A great deal - the return flight plus lounge passes is almost good enough to pay for the annual fee in the first year (especially if you go in the afternoon and have lots to drink!), and the 80k Velocity points are heaps better than the same amount of Qantas points. Plus the earn rates are great if you buy food out often.
