This radio showed $35 on the shelf but scanned $29.

The box did not state alarm but when I checked the manual it does mention alarm function. Got home and tested every function including alarm and lost of power. No issues of alarm and no loss of presetted stations and alarms after power recovered. I thought that I needed to set the clock for alarm but in fact the clock was all taken care by the Broadcasting signal.

One more advantage for this is that I can make good use of my eneloop AA batteries from previous deals of ozbargain if I need to take it outdoors.

    I bought 2. They do what's stated but their reception isn't great. I don't know how this compares to the newer model listed here.

      I missed the $9 deal. I thought this one came with alarm clock and FM so just bought it for this reason. It did the scan and picked up 58 channels so I guess this chip is reasonably good in terms of reception. I also operated with batter when I was driving and it worked OK.

        Likely it uses the same / similar circuit as the $9 one. It had (dual?) alarm which was fiddly to use, so never tried it. With a good signal that unit operates well. Problem seemed that signal cuts out, not that it didn't tune.

        The $9 one was a good value unit, but switches (including rotary volume control which replaces simple up/down switches on this unit) were fiddly or failed on some. Returned 2 faulty units, but kept others. Expect will return some for refund in warranty period.

        Given the fairly poor build quality of similar Kmart Audiosonic products, the price seems a little excessive. Might be worth waiting for further price drop. Similar units (eg ALDI with rechargeable battery, when on sale) sell around this price.
