Hi, I just received my gold phone, ordered Sunday afternoon, 17th??. Very pleased so far but had the same problem with setup as I had to choose a country location before I could continue with setup and Australia wasn't an option. Hope this doesn't cause problems in the future.

  • Okay they've emailed to say it's going to be dispatched very soon (hype)

  • My order is showing Packing and Delivering Soon, no sign of shipping yet.

    • mine too - i just got the update 10 mins ago

    • check with toll using the same consignment #? i got mine delivered just few mins back from toll.

  • Just checked my order status, still showing Packing and Delivering Soon. No shipping info yet.
The space grey model is now showing In Stock.

  • Aaargh, toll playing their usual trick. Pkg undeliverable - unable to locate address…. This is because we live 10 km out of nearest town, some drivers won't deliver! Rang to organise re-delivery, hope we get the guy who's been here before :)

  • have a really hard time cleaning the glue from back cover after removing the white CE sticker

    • eucalyptus oil did the trick for me

      • +1

thanks will give it a try or maybe vaseline will do

    • +1

Methylated spirit works really well for these simple adhesives.

    • I used de-solve it, worked a treat

    • thanks for replies guys. i removed it all using vaseline gel.

  • My LCD has red/blue lines running vertically on the screen out of the box. Looks like a LCD Hardware issue after a bit of research and a not too uncommon problem it seems. Shattered :(

    • +1

should be coz mine doesn't..that's tough luck mate

    • What are you going to do in this situation?
Is eGlobal coming to the party and assist, and what are the associated costs involved to rectify the problem?

      • I put a message forward (with picture evidence) using their RMA centre and got a reply in hours asking to send a video to better out lay the problem. I sent that one through early yesterday but havent received a reply back yet - its early days so I haven't given up hope yet! I would hope they would come to the party and swap the phone with me and pay for the postage, though I'm nervous about it

        • +1

If you payed with ebay, they may cover the costs of return shipping. They have that now.

        • +1

          Any update mate?

        • @superm86:

Just left the phone out for collection by TNT today to get picked up, they paid for the collection/return so hopefully in about a week there'll be a new phone coming my way! I have to say that the company have been fantastic about it so far, maybe a little slow to reply to messages but you get that.

I'll let you know how it goes after inspection, it's a common problem but you can't see it in some light so that's my only worry

        • @Invidicus: alright. Am also in same process. Thanks for info.Did TNT or eglobal contact you to schedule pick up?
Currently they just asked my pick up addr details, what to expect further?

Mine arrived today. Gold version, ordered Sunday 17th in the afternoon. Was a bit concerned the gold would be a bit wanky and showy, but its extremely subtle and more like a taupe. Premium look, definitely not over the top.

So far so good. Finger print scanner works great. I had worried coming from a stock android phone I wouldnt like MIUI but the UI is fine so far for me - no chinese or dodgy apps or anything that I can see. Battery life seems good so far. Photos look alot better than the phone I previously had. Phone is buttery smooth from my use with it so far.

The phone came loaded with MIUI 7.1.8.0 LHOMICL, but as soon as I connected to WIFI it detected a new update to 7.2.3.0 LHOMIDA. So all appears above board and official.

I also got the nuglas tempered glass screen protector linked earlier in the thread and its perfect. For anyone wondering, it comes with a plastic screen protector out of the box.

The charger and adapter work fine. The adapter is a decent chunky one that fits perfectly as well, and is no where near as cheap as some of the povo ones I've used before so that was a nice touch. The included micro USB cable is quite long as well.

Very impressed so far, thank you for posting this up!

    • Almost same first impressions.. is that plastic screen protector any good? or recommended to throw out?
Did you find nuglas better than plactic one it came with?

      • +1

Not sure, only used the plastic one briefly. I put the glass one on strait away because after a while the plastic ones tend to deteriorate and look crappy/oily/get bits of dust under the sides. I suppose they're more porous to some degree. The tempered glass ones tend to feel better to use as well.

You can always replace the plastic one when it starts wearing. I can't really give a review on the nuglas one as I've only been using it for less than a day, but its basically perfect so far. I've used others though on another phone and never had issues.

        • Thanks..

        • Thanks for the write up! Eagerly waiting for my space grey…just got the shipping notification tonight. Are you using a case on yours?

        • +1

I've purchased a few cases but not using one yet as they haven't arrived (coming from china/HK) so I can't really say too much about that. I got some slim clear one (here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351605827474) and another random one which I think was linked on page 1 of this post. I just plan on putting it in a pouch or something (at times when it would likely get damaged - when I have keys in my pocket etc) I guess until they arrive.

The phone is brushed aluminium (or some kind of metal). I'm not sure how easily it would scratch anyway.

Oh, and its quite slim, but also somewhat slippery.

        • Another quick unrealted note, the sticker on the back is an absolute bastard to take off, but with some perseverance I managed to remove it. Its one of those stickers that is way too papery so you're going to have some glue stuck on after.

Got rid of the remaining residue with a sheet of papertowel and some of that "orange power goo disolver" we had in the cupboard. I'd reccomend getting that stuff to have around anyway as its great for removing stickers from car windows or anything really. The stuff is magic. (Not affiliated, I swear!)

Great to hear this comes with the Global ROM. Previously I bought another one from Aliexpress which came with a vendor ROM. The bootloader lock and the numerous guides have been confusing and a big time waster. Even though everything worked out at the end I would rather not having to go through the flashing process.

  • I am after a leather case for this phone. Where are you guys buying yours from?

  • Ordered grey on the 16th, just got the shipping notification - sent with DPEX.

    • Ditto. So close yet so far

      • Would it be reasonable to expect it by Friday? I also just got my shipping notification

        • +2

50-50 chance. Mine shipped on 21st (I think recvd shipping info on 20th), received today (but with 1 public holiday)

        • Yes, Mine was shipped on 26th, arrived today.

        • @alxr0101: likewise! :)

  • +1

Finally got mine yesterday in the afternoon! Ordered gold on the 17th. Very happy with the device, runs very quick and the battery seems to be draining ever so slowly.

I have an issue with mine though, the capacitive keys never turn off! They glow a little brighter when they're meant to be "on" but after I wait x seconds they dim a tiny amount but are still pretty bright. Even when I turn off the phone, they stay on now.
Does anyone else have the same issue?

    • +1

Most probably just the settings, check this:

Settings > Additional settings > buttons > button light duration

There are a lot of customisation with this phone so check the settings for anything that you think is odd or want to change.

      • I have tried many weird combinations of playing with the backlight settings and switching the phone on and off, factory resetting too but the problem stays.

You can see when they are meant to be "on" and then when they are "off" you can actually see them dim so I think the settings are actually working.

Do you think it could be hardware issue? Not keen to send it back to HK for this to be fixed :(

        • +1

so if you turn button backlite off in the settins - you can see them dim?

        • @superm86: Yes a very tiny amount, it is noticeable. They don't go off but they dim out a tiny tiny amount like you can see them flicker at 1/2/5 seconds etc.

        • @Terencee: odd, check with their tech support - see what they have to say.

        • Go to settings ABOUT PHONE…scroll to Kernel..tap kernel about 5 times and you will get into cit mode for testing all the hardware.

        • @superm86: Thanks yeah it was classified as DOA, it is on the way back to Hong Kong now :(

        • @Terencee: so u don't have to pay for shipping it at first, yeah?

        • @superm86: That's right, they said they will cover the shipping costs :) It was picked up by TNT Express Import service. If they receive the phone and say there's no problem then they will charge me freight costs for wasting their time (fair enough).

        • @Terencee: great.. good luck mate.

        • @Terencee: Any update on shipment - how long does it take?

        • @superm86: Here is an update! Things are not going so well any more.

I provided details to them on the 04/05 and they quickly contacted TNT for me that's great I received the forms to book a pickup very quickly. But the interesting thing (which is holding everything up) is that they gave me specific instructions: "Please do not mention that it would be a battery inside the box."
TNT picked up my goods on the 06/05 and I gave eGlobal the consignment information. Since then the parcel has been sitting in Hallam - Melbourne and no word from eGlobal.
I got a call from TNT on the 09/05 regarding needing a battery declaration form for the phone and they replied immediately and told me that they will deal with these forms.

Phone is still sitting in Hallam with no word from eGlobal.
Should I open dispute with PayPal and wait for another deal to pick this phone up?

        • @Terencee same here: don't know if due to same reason or not but my phone was picked on Monday an MD it's still sitting on first status of picked up. Can we call up TNT to ask for update?

        • @Terencee: any update?

        • @superm86: ohh are you getting RMA also?
After tnt called me they sent an email to me so I managed to ask the rep what is happening with the parcel and she said the forms have been received and it is on the way to HKG!
Hopefully yours is in the same situation.

        • @Terencee: Oh okay, Thanks for the reply mate.. but is your status still 'picked up' online? or has that changed?
Is there any generic support e-mail id to query?

        • @superm86: My status was "Picked Up" and then "In Depot" about 80 minutes later. It has been "In Depot" for 8 days now. I don't think the tracking site works very well. I told the TNT Customs rep / export clerk person about the site issue and she said "If you need further confirmation you can log enquiry with cust serv on 131150 so they can check with HKG."

  • I have received my DPEX shipping info from eGolbal last night. My satchel is ready to fly from HK to Perth today at 14:55 and hopefully it will be out onboard with driver delivery tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

    • Mine was 8:40 this morning. Fingers crossed it'll be delivered tomorrow!

    • is "ready to fly" an Activity on the DPEX tracking?

Mine still says "In Transit to Destination" since 10:20 this morning, I was hoping it was already on a plane…

  • To anyone that got Dpex as their shipping method, locally they use toll priority and my local toll unit sucks.
Got carded when we were home, redelivery was meant to be today. Its not going to be here until tomorrow so someone will need to stay home.

    • How does one track Toll Priority?

    • I always use my work address to avoid missed delivery.
Courier company can not simply drop a card when my office is open everyday except for public holidays, and plus there are plenty of people who can sign on my behalf when I am not in.

      • Unfortunately uni doesn't have a point I can deliver too.

  • +2

Thought I had a problem with my front camera until I realized that there was still a semi opaque screen protector on! Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

    • Yeah that was one of the reasons I pulled it off and put in another one :)

  • Got mine finally! Just unlocked bootloader using developer ROM. Now to update, root and install TWRP. Signing off, enjoy folks…

  • My SIM tray would not open.. anyone faced that issue? any ideas?

    • R you using the tool that came in the box?

Needs a firm push to eject…

      • Using that tool.. Gave it firm push as well but it just comes out only a tiny bit like less than half a millimeter. :(

        • 'nuff to get a razor blade in to lever out?

        • @goamax: I dont have a razor blade, but is it thinner than paper? as even paper can not go in.

This is how it is after I try with sim tray tool.
          http://postimg.org/image/hudsym33l/

      • I didn't get a tool in my box :(
I just used a safety pin.

        • +1

the tool is in the box on which mobile was resting, which also contains some instruction manual.

  • I was hoping to get mine by tomorrow, it was shipped on Tuesday but only got to Melbourne this morning, I'm in Adelaide… Maybe not… :(

    • Successful delivery! Now just gotta wait for the building's parcel run at about lunch time…

  • My order is now with the driver to be delivered today. Yay.

    • when did yours ship? mine has been in "In Transit to Destination" status since yesterday morning :(

      • received today, sent on tuesday.
what country do you select when setting up ( australia not avialable )

        • alrite cool i should get it tomorrow then.

some people selected HK, others selected singapore. doesn't seem to matter.

    • +1

Use toll tracking.. It will be more recent.

    • On the toll website it says "AU - Erskineville. Linehaul by Overnight". I'm assuming this means I can expect it to be delivered tomorrow?

      • yes - most prob

      • What is your delivery postcode?

        • I'm surprised it's linehaul because I'm still in Sydney - Hills District.

        • @dajackal: The depot is walking distance from me and I've got linehaul listed!

        • also in Hills district, also waiting for grey, also on line haul overnight. Race to see who gets "carded" by Toll first - they never knock!!

        • @blibster: I'm gonna put a sign up at my mailbox!

        • Loaded at 6am on the vehicle. Sitting here like a hawk. If it doesn't come today gonna be annoyed.

      • another person from hills district checking in and it says linehaul by overnight. Kinda scared it has to get moved to homebush or something before being sent out on Monday. Do they let you pick it up from Erskinville?

        • hills district represent! mine got sent to the silverwater depot it seems. should be getting mine today!

Now to keep an eye open for that delivery van before he pulls a sneaky one

        • 9am. Undeliverable. Not at home:(
          Here we go…..

        • @blibster: So they actually knocked? So now you gotta pickup from Silverwater?

        • Took kids to school, out for 10 mins, got carded.
If you want to collect, you have to go to Bankstown.
Getting a bit hacked off with this express delivery nonsense - 2 weeks after ordering.

  • Received at Melbourne CBD mid-day today.

  • Just opened the parcel! Received at around 2pm

  • Received mine (grey) today. Still mucking around with it but I'm impressed so far…much smoother than my Elephone P8000 and better finished too..the P8's destined for the bin if the wife doesn't want it..well maybe not, but there's certainly no comparison..

  • Got mine delivered at 2:13pm. Just unpacked and unboxed the phone.
I will turn it on when I get home. Very happy with the quality and finish by Xiaomi.
