Aliexpress currently has a "Best of" Sale where they are running limited time deals for brands. Currently the Xiaomi Mi 5 is on special. Cheapest I've seen for this phone at 20% off.

It's great to see the prices dropping on this phone.. still no sign of Pro (128gb) stock. The 64gb has the snapdragon 820 @ 2.15Ghz.

48hr deal only!

May be possible to get a $5 coupon for free too.

  • How does this work on Telstra? willmyphonework says it 'may' work

    • You won't get the fastest LTE band (28) but unless you need super download speeds on your phone it shouldn't be too big an issue

      • Really? I though in some areas it's the primary or only 4G band for Telstra and Optus. Otherwise falling back to 3g. I'm not sure so would appreciate others confirming

        • Yep, 700 is now primary LTE band in Metro areas on Telstra and Optus.

        • @crazycs: My redmi note 2 is missing the 700mhz band as well - and it's connecting as 4G in Brisbane and Sydney. I haven't tested the speeds.

TBH I was happy with 3G - but telechoice just upgraded to 4G.

    • From memory it will work fine but is missing a/some bands?

  • Great price. Interested to buy one but never bought anything from Ali Express before. How safe is it?

Ali Express is a marketplace like ebay. Your experience will vary depending on the vendor you purchase from, but generally, items shipped from China are slow. But it's cool because with your phone you will get some free spyware ;)

    • ali has buyer protection, almost the same as paypal for undelivered/wrong/damaged/ets items
but shipping is really slow - usually takes 3-4 weeks from China

  • I bought the Xaomi Redmi Note 3 pro for $300 yesterday.
Possibly a case of buyers remorse…is this worth the extra money?

The Redmi is a beast. I have got 7.5 Hrs of SOT and 25% battery still left in the tank. This is over 2 days use already. You will love it.

Same reason why I chose Redmi Note 3 over this one :) 4000mAH battery is the winner for me.

    • where did you buy that one from?

  • Thanks OP. Got one. Hope everything goes smoothly.

I have the Mi4i and while the hardware specs are good, the current mui7 (a direct copy of iOS7) doesn't cut it. Initially, it impresses with a large variety of umbrella functionality similar to iOS7, but after familiarising myself with the phone after six months I've come to the conclusion that almost every functional implementation is broken, usually in some fundamental or frustrating way. Also, I had to constantly manually 'clear' applications to regain memory as it ran like a dog constantly. Hopefully the mi5 hardware resolves this issue but I am definitely in the once bitten twice shy camp now.

    • Can you put cm on it instead?

    • Interesting, I've noticed they market their products like Apple also.

    • I have the Xiaomi Mi4c and it was originally too efficient at clearing inactive applications. I think it was one of the reasons why I had problems receiving whatsapp notifications for a while. It's an easy fix though, I just locked it from auto clearing and now it comes through every time.

  • Does this one come with Google Service Frame and Play store?

    • Yes. Mentioned somewhere in the massive description.

  • There is also the mi4s too. Have not done much research on price for this one but it was released the same time as the mi 5 as an updated version of the 4.. Only issue with these phones from what i see personally is they are boot locked so can be tricky if you want to flash something else on.

Xiaomi is one of China's biggest phone maker, they compare to iPhone 6s and gs7 spec wise and cheaper

    • Unlocking the bootloader is fairly simple now. They've added an english page and instructions. A simple process but it does take a decent amount of time. Mine took maybe a month? Frustrating at times but if you just let it happen and not get worried then it's fine

    • Xiaomi fluctuates between 3rd and 4th with Huawei in largest phone manufacturer in the world.
Phones built in China are done by Foxcon who do apple.

  • my order got cancel. does anyone else?
wow, you need to send in driver license or other ID to verified yourself.
