Pioneer MVH-X385BT in-Car Stereo with RDS Tuner and Bluetooth $117.60 @ JB Hi-Fi

70

Cheapest price that I could find. Was Ryda at $169.85 but JB beats it.

Overview

The new, short chassis MVH-X385BT is designed to stream music from your Bluetooth devices in crystal clear audio quality thanks to the Advanced Sound Retriever for Bluetooth. It also allows you to make and receive hands free phone calls while driving, you can even store the phone numbers of your family and friends as pre-set buttons for quick, easy and safer dialling. On top, you can even connect up to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously!

But there is more than just Bluetooth. Connect your iPod, iPhone, Android smartphone and other USB devices to your car speakers via the front USB or Aux-in. Of course, this car stereo also allows you to tune into your favourite radio stations using the FM/AM tuner.

Enjoy pristine sound from the MVH-X385BT's built-in amplifiers that deliver 4 x 50W of pure, proven MOSFET power. For even more power, you can use the two RCA pre-outs to hook up an extra amplifier for the rear speakers and/or subwoofer.

    • Its comes with a remote - Wireless remote control (QXE1044)

  • I dont think this does cdplayer anymore. Need to step up to the 4850BT for $192*0.7

Just ignore. JB says it has CD which in fact it doesn't.

I do like the Pioneer models. Just a shame only the top end models seem to support FLAC according to there specs. Unlike the Sony models.

If your after CD I would go the Sony BT unit.

  • How easy are these thing to DIY install, Late (very late) model twin cab Ford Courier 1999. Currently has FM/AM radio and wait for it, a Cassette player! LOL!

I installed mine without much hassle, and I'm no electronics or auto guru. The car is a 2000 model.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube on how to go about installing head units. There might even be one specific to your car.

You can make things easier by buying ISO wiring harnesses so things just plug together (~$15 x 2). But if you'd rather save on cost, you can solder wires or use crimp connectors.

And you can always persuade that "cluey" friend with a few beers for some help :)

Great price. I purchased the predecessor (MVH-X375BT) based on thewirecutter.com review and I'm very happy with it. As the OP says, there's not much difference between the old and the new model. The main difference is that they changed the button layout.

The sound is great, especially compared to the stock head-unit that came with my car. Bluetooth works beautifully with music and phone calls. I've had great feedback on how clear I sound during hands free speaker phone calls. (Microphone mounted near central rear-vision mirror.)

The only downsides that I can think of are that the display is not easily readable in direct sunlight, and the remote control buttons have to be pressed firmly to make a connection, but I don't use it anyway. Both of these issues may have been addressed in the new model.

Highly recommended for a basic head unit.

  • I've got a late model 350Z which has controls at the steering wheel column. Would it be easy to install this myself? Alternative is to let JB Hifi install it. Anyone knows how much they charge for an installation?

Just look up a few videos and web sites on how to remove the existing head unit from the car if your not sure how to do it.

You will also need to buy some adaptors. 2 x IOS wiring harness. one for car end and the other for pioneer end. Along with the searing wheel controls adapter as well.

Aerpro will give you an idea of what IOS harness your after to suit your motor vehicle. These can be purchased from places like Repco, Super Cheap Auto or eBay.

For my car wasn't hard at all to remove and install a new head unit using the appropriate adaptors.

I'd also get a quote for install if JB still do that and go with whatever is cheaper, Steering wheel controls for the Nissan 350z are quiet expensive.

  • Steering wheel controls aren't that expensive.

  • Pioneer make a great value unit. Have had pioneer head units in 3 cars now and not a single issue. Managed to grab a MVH-X4750BT at a really good price ($169 down from $239, last years model) with CD player, Bluetooth, Apple and Android connectivity, remote etc. from SCA. Really happy with it.
