yeh me too. I want to read the banter!

mod long term Ozb members should be able to "unhide" unpublished comments! :)

        • @havok44: maybe google cached it?

        • @deevo101: Hmm… Good thought, but the comments are all showing as under the "comment threshold" and the "Show" button… Well it isn't showing.

          Comment unpublished. (Trolling / Bullying)

Wow, that's something I never expected to see when I clicked on this thread…

  • Good price

  • I have this one… quite good. But I'm kind of annoyed that it won't let multiple phones be paired and just work.

    • +4

JVC normally allow 2 devices at once, but it's interesting that JBs no longer sell them, wonder why. They're actually good bang-for-buck car audio

      • Maybe they found it to be unnecessary competition between them and Kenwood, as they're both produced by the same company?

        • I didnt know this lol

      • I love my JVC I got from JB Hi-Fi 5 years ago. Still better than some of the newer units at higher prices.

    • how is the quality when streaming from phone ?

  • Like to get one but have no idea how to take out the existing factory radio and swap in this one :(

    • What car?

    • me too, is it easy to DIY? mine is toyota rav4

      • Year?
Need a pic of the dash to work it out :)

        • +1

If anything before about 2010, only a Toyota Double DIN adapter is needed, which include the fins. JB sells a Stinger BKTOYP pretty cheaply.

      • I think it's Nissan X-Trail 2001 SUV.

        • Easy to swap out in an X-Trail. If it's an ST, you don't even have steering wheel controls - just get a double DIN adaptor, and depending on the original radio's model, potentially an antenna adaptor!

        • @AlexD: Sounds complicated to me :-/

  • How long do JB's usually have a sale like this? Good until Saturday (am)??

    • +1

      You have a week :)

pricehipster is really making it difficult for me to buy things.
I wanted this head unit for a present, I saw on pricehipster that it was $70 during christmas. The staff couldnt reduce the price anymore =(
and I had to purchase it, knowing it had been cheaper. The Ozbargainer inside me was not happy

  • are there any deals on DAB+ headsets?

  • Hey would this work for a hyundai getz? How would one fix it up via DIY? Thanks a lot and great deal :)

    • Yes it would.
Can use Aerpro adapters, but for a car like that, get an install quote from JBs, it will probably be a similar price and save you the headache :) Or ask around mates and chuck them a carton if they can properly do it (by properly I mean soldering etc, not just tape!)

      • Do you know what a typical primary or secondary harness goes for these days?

        • Rhetorical question?
Last I looked, some can run up to $50 or so

        • SuperCheap have the ISO adapters for $17 each, and you need 2

        • +1

@Spackbace: They never had them back when I was a hoon doing up a shit box :)

      • No adapter needed for a Getz! The space is slightly wider than single DIN, but almost unnoticeable. I know of some installers who take off the plastic tabs on the side of the OEM radio, and stick them onto the new ones.

Also, not associated with JB. Haven't worked there in months.

        • Also, not associated with JB. Haven't worked there in months.

@Spackbace: Thanks! Messaged the mods because I've posted deals before.

        • @AlexD:

Just spotted this comment and fixed it up for you now. Where did you message? I can't see any TWAM or email from you.

          Thanks

        • Thanks for this response. So is it as easy as removing the current one and just plugging the new one in?

    • Just get a Hyundai to ISO adaptor from SCA or Autobarn. This head unit comes with ISO female adaptor. Its plug and play

  • hmm the Sony XAV-68BT is back for $239.40

I wanted to get this last time but missed out. Convince me not to please. Halp.

    • I was like what, $2k for a head unit @ Jbs?!

Looks nice, almost like a factory unit. What do you have in your car now?

      • lol had to edit :P

stock double din corolla 2005 -_-

        • Yeah, upgrade, get Bluetooth and USB functionality :)

        • @Spackbace:

any deals on jb hifi giftcards? do supercheap/autobarn/repco price beat or just match?

        • +1

          @CVonC:

Not that I know of, and I think they just match

        • @Spackbace:

Saw in store (not on their website) a Kenwood DDX4015BT for $328 "reduced to clear" which comes down to $229.60.

Wondering if that would be better than the Sony?

        • +1

          @CVonC:

          http://www.sony.com.au/product/xav-68bt
          http://www.kenwood.com/au/car/visual_navigation/ddx4015bt/

Both look to have much the same functionality. Sony has BT v3, Kenwood has v2 (google the differences!). Sony has front USB, which can be handy for thumb drives.

I reckon the icons and layout on the Sony look nicer, but that's subjective.

        • @CVonC: Kenwood are a better brand imo. I have sony and wouldn't do it again

    • Doesn't have GPS, no deal.

  • Has anyone had experience with JB's installation service? Would you recommend it? Looking to buy one but I have no experience with DIY. Not sure whether I should stick with JB for the installation or find a cario audio specialist.

    • What car?

      • 2005 Honda Integra

        • Like this?

          Looks fine

        • +1

My old man had his '05 integra done with jb (frankston, vic) a few years. Did a good job.
Like everything i presume it would depend on the installer. A couple of the guys around south east melb are good though, care about what they do.

        • don't use any JB installer. they did shitty job. if you ever need the best installer in house, let me know.

        • but JB sell good stuffs. i got all my car audio from them… don't buy another brand.. except pioneer and JL audio.

        • @bargainmanhunt: Do you have any suggestions for anyone around NSW? Thanks.

        • +1

Update: I bought the Pioneer AVH-285BT from JB at Church St in Parramatta, NSW. I asked about installation and they said that JB themselves don't do installation anymore, however they have a recommended installer. They referred me to "Sounds Good Sound and Security" in Parramatta and they quoted me $150 to install it in my car. The price is mainly due to the fact that they need to make a custom bracket/housing unit to hold the head unit in my car.

  • does this come with a harness? how many/which ones will i need to fit to an old school magna?

    • All HU's come with a harness. Plugs into the HU with bare wires at the other end. A lot of people don't use it and instead buy HU->ISO and ISO->car harnesses (assuming the HU doesn't use ISO connectors). Can get away with just the harness that comes with it if you are willing to cut/splice your stock wiring, otherwise can buy a bare wire or car->ISO harness and simply join (preferably solder+heat tube) with the harness that comes with the HU.

  • OzBargainers!

I have a year 2000 Pulsar. Will I be able to install this in there and be able to receive and make calls from my Android Phone?

Pardon the ignorance but I know nothing.

    • +1

      I know nothing.

      Jon Snow?

      • jon never said that ;)

    • Yes and yes, it should have a simple stereo setup to swap out. As to whether you can, that depends on your expertise

      • Thank you

  • Any android auto headunits?

    • +1

Not that I could see. If anyone finds one please let us know. Or probably more preferable one that supports wireless screen mirroring from an android phone.

It seems crazy to me that they market some absurdly expensive units with in built nav when any maps software they manage to run is not going to be as good as the nav apps on phone I carry around all day.

Just focus on units that let people utilise their phone apps dammit. Why have a dvd drive? Who on earth is watching a dvd on an in-dash screen with a quarter the resolution of an ipad?

    • Parrot Asteroid Smart. Awesome head unit, have owned one for years (no screen mirroring).

  • Anyone know if any headunits at JB comply with CANBUS standards? Would like any aftermarket unit to still be used via the steering wheel controls which, as I understand, are CANBUS compliant.

    • None that I know of use CANBUS.
Most though do have a remote input. The pioneer head unit I have has a remote input that has a 3.5mm headphone style jack on it, that you can plug a steering wheel control box into like the Access ASWC-1. They are programmable to most cars and head units and read the signals coming from the wheel (usually one wire) and outputs to the 3.5mm Jack what to do

    • when I was looking at a few sony units (and also Kenwood and Alpine) I was told you just get the correct adaptors for the steering wheel controls - our xtrail has phone and audio contr on the wheel and could buy the cable adaptors. In the end we didnt buy though.
jb looks to have all these leads/adaptors.

  • Finding it hard to see the specs online for this unit. Anyone know if it would use the same connection plug as the older Xplods (CDXGT300MP) I have an Astra and needed to buy a euro adapter plug at the time to connect the radio to cars wiring…

    • +1

This comes with an ISO harness. This basically how it connects "Car -> ISO male >-< ISO female ->Sony"

      • +1

        Awesome, cheers!

  • If I have Android Google Maps Navigation connected to BT Stereo Audio while I'm listening to the radio will the directions voiceover the radio? my ALDI piece of crap bluetooth car radio won't do that.

    • Don't think so.. I can do this but I have to have music from my phone playing through Bluetooth instead of the radio

    • I have this exact head unit. When the direction guidence is playing, it will lower the volume (play over) or pause whatever stuff that you are playing through your phone. You cant have same functionality with built in FM radio of this head unit and bluetooth though. Only one input can be selected at once.

    • you can choose that on your phone, well I can on my Sony Z5.
default is over the car audio but you can switch that off.

sorry, thats while I am streaming music (spotify) no the radio (have tried it with radio)

  • +1

OP..Does this fit in Mitsi Lancer sedan 2007?

    • Old shape? Yeah wouldn't be an issue, as far as I remember they have a basic stereo setup
