Watt a deal! It's a monster of a deal! I'm really shocked! Your deals drive me wild!

    • You should be doing copy for monster or harvey :)… seriously "Resist bumps" is a feature of this ..

Did you find this on Price Hipster?

    • Never heard of Price Hipster until now and seen some nice deals on there already.
      Thanks.

  • Can't find the amp rating. Is it 2x2.1A?

    • +1

Well, you could simply read the HN Webpage…

…has a total power output of 10 watts

10W at 5 Volts is 2 Amps in total.

      • Mishtake from me - USB volts 5V

      • +1

I can confirm it can be more than 1 amp as it shows quick charging in my Samsung S7.

Maybe it gives the full 2 amps to one USB port if you don't use the other port.

        Anyway that is my observation.

This mobile PowerPlug from monster is designed for in-car use…

Come on OP, you can try harder than that. There's no need for a copy/paste all that marketing bulldust.

It plugs quickly and easily into your 12V cigarette lighter socket…

Grrr FFS - why is that annoying the hell out of me? :-(

built to resist bumps and scrapes or wear and tear which can occur as you drive around

so I guess I can attach this to some sort of extension cord from the ciggie lighter and hang it out the window dragging along the ground?

Your idea would be excellent as a lazy person's cat toy!

      • LOLOLOLOL

        Nice.

        Felt like a Seinfeld moment.

      • Was wondering about this one as well. The way I drive, my cigarette lighter gets bumped and scraped all the time.
Thank god this one has come along to resist them.

  • Which stores have stock?

    • +3

There's literally a button called "Check store stock"!

      • +2

Every store around me is out, that's why i asked.
Alexandria, Moore park, Bondi, Wiley park, Caringbah and more were all out of stock.

If I get this, then I'd like a cable as well - is it possible to get a reasonable quality "dual purpose" cable with USB at one end (for charger) and BOTH a lightning plug and a micro-USB at the other end? We have a mixture of Apple/Android/WinPhone devices and would like to just get a single cable to live in the car..

    • +1

Cables with both MicroUSB and Lightning are usually crap, especially if they have a Y adaptor and 2 plugs at one end.

The only practical option is those MicroUSB cables with a separate Lighting Adaptor on the end. There are a few available where the adaptor is tethered, but they tend to be expensive. The Micro USB connection will fail fairly quickly because they are delicate and will be destroyed if somebody sits on the phone, or it gets knocked.

Remember, if paying big $$ make sure you get genuine "Made For Iphone" (MFI) or you face the risk of it becoming useless at the next IOS update.

I think it's pointless getting a quality solution for the car. These cables cop a LOT of abuse, as the slip down into the seat runners and get tugged, ripped and knocked. It's really easy to bump them, and the MicroUSB connectors are particularly prone to damage, so don't count on those lasting very long.

Personally I use a dual socket adaptor inside the centre console armrest, and I leave 2 cables plugged in at all times. The cables are stored inside there when not in use. I reckon I get 6 months out of the cables (decent quality ones), less if I use cheapies. That said, I am yet to find a dual power adapter with enough real-world grunt to reliably charge 2 devices at once, as the voltage drop and overheating cause them to cycle on and off continuously (it's faster to charge one at a time).

    • Sounds like you want a charger with two USB outputs. Plug a USB-to-micro-USB cable into one of the outputs, and a USB-to-lightning cable into the other.

If you want to make it look like a single cable, Jaycar sell heat-shrink tubing, probably this one will be the right size, but check it before you buy:

You can glue a lightning-USB adapter into your iPhone to make it standards-compliant.
We can only hope that eventually, everyone will agree on USB-C.

How long did it take Apple to switch from AppleTalk to ethernet, or Firewire to USB-2?

      • You can glue a lightning-USB adapter into your iPhone to make it standards-compliant

        What a silly comment.

For the past few years the Apple Lighting is vastly superior connector to the frail, directional and connectivity-limited MicroUSB (and it's ridiculous OTG variant) that are still currently the rage with the Android fanbois.

We can only hope that eventually, everyone will agree on USB-C.

If it is as delicate and unreliable as the current MicroUSB, then I doubt it.

How long did it take Apple to switch from AppleTalk to ethernet, or Firewire to USB-2?

Firewire is vastly superior to USB 2.0 in many ways, apart from it's superior speed. So, I guess Apple didn't want to downgrade to USB 2.0 for data transfer since it was a retrograde step for them.

Remember - just because VHS was more popular than BetaMax, does not mean it is better.

        • What a silly comment.

Did I forget my <sarcasm> tags?

VHS beat Betamax because you could fit a whole movie on one tape.
And standardisation is more important than minor technical advantages.
Yes Lighting is good, or would be if it were a common standard.

          @manic:

Did I forget my <sarcasm> tags?

OOOPS - sorry, I misread it.

standardisation is more important than minor technical advantages.

For sure. However standardisation only works if the parties are all involved in the process. And if the result is (even if a token gesture of) a step forwards, especially for consumers.

I am doing a lot of work with Lightning cables at the moment, part of a project of working out a way to test them for voltage drop, etc. Since the pin assignment is dynamic and no pins are live until activated by the iOS, it's tricky to test them.

I've worked out a way to solve that now, but in the process I have also done a lot of comparisons with MicroUSB. I also now really appreciate why Apple did what they did with Lighting - at the time the "standard" was MicroUSB 2.0 and it is absolute crap. Unreliable, frail, slow. And MicroUSB 3.0 is just plain horrid (I have it on my Galaxy Note).

There is heaps of clever engineering in Lightning - eg: reversible, USB 2 and USB 3 (Lighting has 4 data lines), amazingly strong, fair better contract pressures, etc. But Lighting is OLD now days, and perhaps USB-C will be better?

        • @manic:

VHS beat Betamax because Sony wouldn't allow the porn industry to use Beta.

        • @CH:
You should google before repeating silly urban legends. It doesn't even make any sense.

      • Pretty sure Apple switched to USB1 and USB2 before non-enthusiast motherboards did.

They also switched to Lightning before USB3 (and subsequently USB-C) was ratified.

Not defending their proprietary connector, just your implication that Apple are slow to adopt standards.

        • Apple were one of the first to promote USB, notably by dropping rs232 and centronics ports.
They just sometimes have a "not invented here" attitude.

Things got a lot better after Jobs returned, though I'm not sure if that was him directly promoting standards.
And of course Apple is a big company. The Mac/OSX family is more open and standards compliant than the iPhone/IOS family.

    • I purchased the dual USB 700 yesterday and it also comes with a Monster USB to lightning cable like this

Online chat said both 1 Amp models rubbish these days need 2.1 or 2.4 at least?

    • Wow that's unusual for a online chat rep to say their products are rubbish. Gerry won't be happy again.

    • +2

The specs say 10W, USB is 5V, therefore if the specs are true, they should be 2A.
      Power = Volts x Amps

    • +1

Online chat said both 1 Amp models

Not sure why you would even need to ask. Simply reading the HN webpage shows they are both TWO AMP models.

And here is the manufacturer's links:

      DUAL product manual

      SINGLE product manual

      webpage for both

And you will see that they all say the same thing - 10W or "2.1 Amps".

      • Well there you go the online chat was an indian call centre moron!
I asked several ways and several times and they said it had to be 20watts or more to be greater than 1 amp!

  • Plenty of similar items still at Dick Smith.
Varies by store of course, but I got a "Move" 2.4A Dual-usb for a few dollars.

  • Just cause its Monster brand doesn't necessarily mean its any good.

This just looks like any other made in China brand one i've used in the past and they have all bee rubbish. They either stop working, don't stay in socket very well or give bad RF interference with car radio stations.

  • Picked up my USB charger from the last deal a few days ago, pretty good and solid.

  • +3

14.95 delivery. HN are an absolute joke. They won't even send it to a closer store for local pickup. Wasn't really interested in this product, but was utopia if 14.95 applied to very small items and it looks like it does. What's worse is that if you order two products, it's 14.95 X 2!

    • +1

yeah I lol'd at that delivery cost
