3800 lumens from one xm-l ? And I can fart jingle bells.

This is way beyond the usual exaggeration.

And the same model is cheaper on eBay
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Cool-3000-Lumen-Cree-XM-L-T6-LED-…

hey look at that: BUY 3, GET 1 AT 5% OFF (add 4 to cart)
Could that be the lamest discount ever?

Of the 3800 lumens, how many of those are real?

    • +2

They forgot the decimal point. Should read 380.0LM ;)

    • +1

It's real lumens — Chinese lumens.

Don't forget there's also Chinese milliampere hours, which is often used to sell lithium batteries of impossible capacities like this one

    • +2

According to Cree's own specification sheet the XM-L T6 is capable of 692 Lm at 2000 mA.

While it should max out around 1000 Lm if pushed at the full current 3000 mA deliverable by an 18650. In actual fact the reflector and lens efficiency reduce this around 65% of the actual output or in other words 650 Lm at 3000 mA bulb lumens source

Most likely it wouldn't be driven at the full 3000 mA but more likely 1500-2000 mA or 600-700 Lm the actual light output after losses for the lens/reflector would be using the 390-455 Lm.

Surprisingly 390 Lm looks very much like 380.0 Lm, so to answer your question of how many of those are real I would say 1/10 th

Obviously they have indeed missed the decimal point to intentionally mislead consumers.

I can tell you stories about TinyDeal, but I am too well-mannered.

    The specs are wrong.
This LED can deliver a max of 1,040 at 3 AMP's. Given this is powered by 3 x AAA the real MAXIMUM LM < 500.
Realistically you would expect 350 LM from this.

    • +2

YES! See, I told you… they did forget the decimal point :p

  • +3

Misleading specs. This is NOT 3800 lumen.

    • +1

yep, 380 is more like it. Just divide by 10 and you'll get the real lumens.

  • Out of curiosity, does anyone know the brightest & cheapest torch is? (in actual real lumens)

    • Nitecore TM 36 is great but not cheap. nitecore have a great range, don't fuss about the lumens. A $5 nitecore will blow most people's socks off

      • Cool. Thanks Mate.
Where's the best place get Nightcore torches?

EDIT: WOW! The TM36 is what i want, but $600… bloody hell!

  • More than my Nitecore Eagletac MX - no chance!

  • I am negging because the Store Rep is ignoring valid comments regarding inaccurate description, and because considerably lower prices were found on eBay.
