  • Gee you posted on 18/3 and now price drop already. Amazing

    • Yep, but only for the models w/o 2.5 drive bay.

      • What does it have instead, a 3.5" ?

        • +2

          M.2 slot.

  • Are these good as a HTPC?

    • +2

Yes, they comes with CIR sensor built-in, good for HTPC build.

      • What do we need to get it working? Just OS, Ram and HDD?

        • +1

Yes, plus a monitor and cables.

        • Just ram.

You can run OPENELEC/KODI from a usb or sd card

    • They have HDMI V1.4 while the about to be released i7 NUCs will have HDMI 2.0, but basically I think this is a minor issue and only if you're considering 4k playback.

  • the 5th gen ones are probably better in terms of performance/$, also the pentium n3700 one is cheaper than anywhere else!

    • Do you think that n9000 with 8gb ram will be fine for 20 tabs of chrome plus streaming MP3 from my synology nas? Also, can play hevc x265 compression video?

      • +1

        i assume you mean n3700 :)

i think the chrome tabs would largely depend on how 'heavy' the websites are, streaming you can ignore i think, it barely uses anything.

i don't have a n3700, but i do have a j1900 from the gen before, same cpu performance with a slower gpu. from my experience browsing has been quick with no lag, but generally i only go to maybe 10 tabs, i have played 720p hevc with no problems, i imagine 1080p should be fine as well.

currently there's 2 n3700 nucs located in hk for <$260, the other listing is for a much less impressive $307.

    • Would there be any specific benefits in using skylake?

      • i think the gpu is much better. with NUC, processor is tied with gpu.

      • Lower power consumption and gpu

  • Just so people know.. these things run hot 60c+ CPU temps

    • +1

      Only the i5 6th gen/Skylake or others?

    • Which versions doing what?

I've installed about 15 of various i3 versions with 4G RAM and SSD and they tick along with normal office/browsing at mid-30s 24/7 in office conditions. Very reliable and very quiet. Never had a problem.

I've not yet installed a Skylake version though.

  • i got the last 6th gen i5 and i3 H versions :)
