  • no need to create an account with em to buy either, big positive

  • yep. i have a feeling i might sell so many for this company they'll run out of stock and wont give me the 6 i bought.. Zzzz haha

  • Warranty: 1 Year Return to Base

    really?

  • Love my F3. time to buy another (or two) at this price.

    Umart is still $105 pickup.

  • Would pick one up but I live in VIC :(
    Good deal.

  • Allneeds have had it at $88 for a couple of months too http://www.allneeds.com.au/prod628.htm and Megaware in Beaconsfield are doing it for $100 pickup.

why ppl need 6x of this ? just buy 2 then wait another 6 months price will drop

    • People's needs are different.

By your logic, we should wait 10 years for 1TB hard drives to be worthless and pick them up for free while everyone else is buying those shiny new Intel 4TB solid state drives.

      • +2

u mean in 10 years we'll be using the shiny new 1pb drives? :D

        • +1

u mean in 10 years we'll be using iDrives? :P

    • I'm a computer sole trader and i cant even get these drives cheaper from any wholesaler, so 2 customers and 6 drives is gone… One customer is setting up a raid 10 for a server and another guy a raid 1… make sense? :)

  • Hmmm 1 year RTB warranty ?? I have looked at the samsung web site and can't find any warranty information that would suggest anyhting more than that. Also Samsung state:
    Drive Configurations

Drive Configurations Capacity * 750 GB
    Interface Serial ATA 3.0Gbps
    Buffer DRAM Size 32 MB

If it only has a 1 year warranty I will spend and extra $10-$20 to get something with at least a 3yr warranty.

    Not voting good or bad

    • Um I think samsung does include some kind of extended warranty. I can't remember for how long though. I sent of my old 320gb hdd that was maybe 2-3 years off and it was still covered under warranty (sent direct to samsung that is). I'm quite sure they have this guarantee on the F3 as well because I remember checking mine on the same warranty site as well.

  • Damn. I bought one yesterday from Austin in Perth for $111.00

hehe these guys live a few minutes from me :D but i prefer seagate or WD

    • there's a good reason these drives are 'it' at the moment. Go away from your bias to a certain company, and enjoy the best in the market rather than the same old.

    • +1

Why Seagate or WD? These Samsung's blow most of them out of the water. I even swapped my Raptors (1st gen) out for these babies

      • yeah the higher density platters make up for the raptor's faster speed
would never touch a raptor, instead with teh same amount of money id get two of these in a raid 0 set up, faster speeds too (well should be)

  • You know.. I've been meaning to ask. I bought a new laptop like 2 days ago and it has a USB 3.0 port. Are any drives out there providing this interface yet?

    • Or do I just need a new cable or something?

      • no a new cable won't do a thing, the devices you currently have are USB 2.0 standard and they won't work at USB 3.0 speeds, it's a whole new specification but with backwards compatibility with 2.0 and 1.0

    • there are no decvices that utilises USB 3.0 at the moment iirc, but if there is it's probably so rare or expensive that I just don't take note of it.

Basically I think USB 3.0 ports are just eye candy and epenis extenders, that cost an arm and a leg for early adaptors, I can't see it going anywhere near mainstream until at least late 2011 possibly 2012. Anyone have thoughts on this?

And take this into account USB was first released in 1996 with the USB 2.0 specification in 2000. I didn't stop using floppy disks and printers/scanners with parralel ports till 2003, with my first usb printer and in 2004 with my first usb memory stick, costing me a whooping 50 bucks for a laser branded 512mb.
Also the eSata specification was finallised in 2004, and even now more than 5 years later motherboards and computer cases don't come with that many eSata ports, and external devices don't have them either unless you fork out an arm and a leg premium.

By the time USB 3.0 becomes mainstream everyone would be facing the time to get a new computer/laptop

      just my 2 cents

      • I get your point. Lots of people on forums are also claiming that eSata offers similar speed benefits to USB 3.0, so 3.0 won't really catch on quick. But some also say that eSata doesn't power devices so for portable drives with SSDs inside or thumb drives, USB 3.0 would prove more useful… There's a lot of fuss about whether 3.0 will actually prove useful or not.

But I also read that there's a Western Digital 3.0 drive. It's listed as $199 US on their official site. Should be cheaper in regular stores. Not sure if this will hit stores here soon. I wanna own one just for the sake of trying out the speed difference haha…

        • +1

          3.0 will prove usefull
its just a matter of waiting for it to become mainstream thats all.

        • isnt 3.0 ment to be faster than esata? and yeah the benefit of usb3.0 would be the power bit, as soon as this thing hits mainstream esata better act fast or else it's the new firewire

          • @Trance N Dance: It is but can't really compare that until I get my hands on a 3.0 device… Hopefully some time this year, they start to get popular. Because more and more laptops and desktops are coming out with 3.0 usb ports. I admit, it'll be a while yet before it becomes mainstream but at least I hope the market for it starts to grow soon.

  • I need another NAS, any quality bargains out there so I can make use of this deal?

  • Looks like they changed the price now to $99. I wonder if it was a error that they typed $88 instead of $99. Please post when you have received your item.

    cheers

    • it would appear mine has been shipped via fast way today. yay
