  • "Optus in November won the exclusive Australian broadcast rights to the EPL for the next three seasons beginning August 2016" wow just aware of this……

    • +2

Only reason to be on optus.

      • It's even better if Manchester United change their sponsor to Optus on their jersey.

  • +1

Don't rush to get in by breaking a contract. I was told better deals are around the corner :)

    • Today 7 news said there is new player coming in.

      • Wonder who…

        • I think they said Monday news.

  • Hi, noob question, if I order it now and port-out from previous mobile number, is my old sim card disactivated immediately? Or I can wait until the new card arrives and then disactivate my old card? Thanks.

    • +2

Your good until the new sim comes in. When I changed from tpg new optus sim came after a few days and you can ring them up and they will do the activation for you. Takes about 2-4 hours for the new sim to be active.

  • +1

Confirmation it's $30 a month if you've got cable with them?

  • I'm sure their 4g network would be overwhelmed by all the new customers streaming full HD YouTube… ;)

  • Hmmm I saw it on their website an hour ago (as per OP link). Now it's gone?

    • Yep it has been removed, hopefully it's only temporary.

    • yep, looks 'gone' to me too

    • I'm wondering if they are having issues with their website. The My Optus account management seems to be down too. Also the link to "upgrade your plan" doesn't seem to work (doesn't recognise my number).

I'm using the online chat, and they say the plan is still available. He's having troubles pulling up the link…

      • I managed to change via online chat. It is still available despite it not being advertised online

  • Gone.

    • Still avail via chat.

  • +1

Optus replaced this offer to 7GB for $40 per month with $20 for first two months…

    • yup, getting the same offer here as well. On one hand though I doubt I would ever use 7 let alone 10 gb's of data so maybe the saved 40 is worth it. Although is the data on this type of plan shareable?

    • +1

Pretty sure that 7GB offer was already there, they just removed the 10 GB plan.

  • How much for an unlimited data plan?

  • Even though only shows $60 for $10gb, seems the critical information summary still shows the $20 discount poer month

    http://www.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Documents/1418522_CIS_$60_My_Plan_Plus_12M_SIM_Only.pdf

    • "file not found" for me :-(

  • What time does the online chat feature thru their Optus app close or is it 24 hour??
Been unable to get on for hours?

    • +1

I'm chatting to them know apparently offer is still available expires 31/03/16, they are just having issues with their website. Also the $20 discount is for the life of the plan and doesn't end after 12 months.

      • Thanks. 👍

        • Have marked expired. Please hit the report link if the 10GB plan appears again.

  • +1

does it stack with 10% student discount?

    https://offer.optus.com.au/student-hub?SID=con:postmob:stude…

    • I'd like to know this too!

      • +1

        Yes it does $36

        • nice thanks… too bad i am going traveling for the next few months or else i will be all over this ahahaha

  • Is this plan over? I clicked the link and it says 7gb for $40?

    • Nope!
It is still active..there are two plans for $40 (7gb) and $40 (10gb and was $60)

      • Nice i noticed they have a count down timer now. 12 days!

  • Only for new customers.

    • +4

I am an existing postpaid month to month customer. I managed to change over without issues via online chat

      • That's good to know, I went to Optus shop in Macquarie Centre today and they told me that they could not help as it was for New Customers only. Was a little frustrated as I don't see that written anywhere unless I've missed it!

        • +1

They are getting it confused with a similar plan that was offered back in January which was for new customers only. I was on postpaid and moved onto this plan via their live chat. You can also sign up via the Optus site select the plan and you will see two options "Buy a new plan" or "Upgrade a current Optus Plan" if it were for new customers only the latter option wouldn't be available.

NB: Offer ends on the 31/03 so be quick, hope that helps.

  • That's ok but if your out of contract bad luck.
You have to drop the service to prepaid and then come back as a "New customer"

  • Did online chat and was able to get the 10gb plan applied to my current number (was on a post-paid plan and they initially said I would need to change my number to get the deal). Initially wasn't getting anywhere but asked if there was a way to put a complaint in about the policy of needing to change your number as it seems ridiculous and he "went to speak to his supervisor" and came back offering me the deal on my current number.

    • I just got the same as you Bongo. 10gb for $40 for 12 months, via chat no dramas, to 2 phones on the same account.
      Total of 20gb to share.

  • Got no where with online chat.
Kept saying even if they tried to change the plan it wouldn't work unless I went to prepaid first and then came back again.

    • +1

I had the same problem they said new customers only and wouldn't sign me up, I persisted and mentioned that their website stated it was for existing customers also and they eventually agreed and put me on the new plan. Maybe try your luck with another rep.

      • +1

Finally got someone who agreed also.
But they first wanted me to change moblie numbers?
I asked who I had to speak to to make a complaint and shortly after it was allowed.

        • Did you get this now via chat or before ??

        • +1

          @strat: 40 mins ago.

    • same; also got nowhere. Will try another rep, I suppose.

  • Was just about to try live chat but looks like the offer back and expires in 13days!

    • no, still shows $40/7GB or $60/10GB for me. Which is rediculous because the $40 plan is cheaper per GB

  • +1

    Nice data plan.
Increasingly less need for a separate mobile broadband with such a plan.

  • Can I recontract my sim only plan to this one despite being on it for less than 12M?

    • Talk to online customer chat.

  • How do I order the extra sim for $5 for my tablet to share the data with my phone?

    • Easiest way is to go into an Optus shop and say you want a shared data sim. Otherwise they can do it via online chat and post you the sim. I've got 4 shared data sims, I think it's an awesome option for this plan.

      • Cool thanks. Just used the last of 12 amaysim $19.90 vouchers and the data plan on my tablet is ending shortly so this plan is perfect to combine my phone and tablet into 1.

      • Yep, in store is easiest I think.

    • Extra sim to share data for $5 a month or once off

      • once off

    • +1

FYI - I tried to purchase (the $5 data sharing sims) in store today (Armadale, Vic) but they advised can no longer sell them from stores. They gave me 2 sims and said call centre or livechat might be able to activate them as data sharing sims. Livechat said no go - need specific sims for it and they need to mail the out. Managed to purchase via livechat in the end.

      • odd. Appreciate the heads up will go on livechat when it comes time for it.

  • +2

Upgraded to this plan, with a further $10 discount because of home broadband, via online chat.
    Winning.

  • Do they do a cheaper plan also - around $15-20? Can these two plans then share the combined data?

    • Check their website. I am sure that you can share that 10gb of data with another optus number.

  • Anyone on a current phone+plan in contract been able to change to these?

    • I dont think so.. Because this is sim only plan.
But give it a try with online customer chat.

    • I changed an existing SIM only plan to this offer with no issue. It looks like you can change a phone+plan but you have to payout the contract/handset.

    all i can see is $40/m for 7gb, with $20 off first 2mth? or $50/m 10gb data month-month.

    compared to the $40/m 7gb (min. total $440 for 12mths), vaya plan is better $35/m (av.), (min.total $420 for 12mths) http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Mobile&4Gsimonly&Unlimited

    • Stay well away from those Vaya crooks. I and so many others have had huge headaches with them. Check Whirlpool where there are many threads referring to Vaya and none are happy stories!

  • Vodafone has a $50 Plan with 10GB aswell. But they have unlimited to calls to international countries (10). IF your a student you get $5 off so this might be a match from Vodafone with similar if not the same deal.

    • Just saw that deal too. That Vodafone deal is also available month to month with half price access fee for the first month

      • Confirmed it stacks with 10% student offer. Mod - might want to update post so this isn't missed.

I just need to get a student ID for my partner. ;)

  • Is this deal better the Virgin's $40 for 10GB? Otherwise I might switch.

a little suggestion needed, i have $2 a day 3g unlimited data, calls, sms. It will cost me $60 a month if i use it daily but my phone usage is almost zero, i only use it for mobile data. Should i stick with that sim or buy a new one in this plan ?

    • +1

I suggest you to buy a plan because if you use data daily anyhow it will cost you $60 per month plus if u call or text someone. So i suggest get a deal and call to every ozbargainer for free (kidding :) )

    • I'm the same as you, been o the $2 plan a long time….often used $4 a day though.

What I have just done is use this offer from vodafone (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/235979) and purchased the biggest 365 day pack.

Now I'm deciding whether to go for this plan for $40 a month, then I should be well covered and not be tied to a daily usage plan.

    • 10GB of data is an insane amount of data to burn through for $40

      • Not if you don't have home internet. I often use a gig a day…and if I'm bored and watch a couple of youtube vids then that'd go higher.

  • I got this plan back in January for $20/month:

    • $60/month original price stan
    • -$20/month promo discount
    • -$10/month Optus Broadband customer discount
    • -$10/month TPG customer discount
  • Gf signed up to $40/mth 8gb 24months, last month. Is there a cooling off, switch to this option?

    • Talk with 2-3 different Online customer support representatives.. They might end up switching your plan to this deal. And i hope you dont have 24 months with a phone because this deal is for sim only plan.

  • Hi guys,

Am i able to get this plan and 3 - 4 data sims for 3g/4g dongles to give my mum and dad data? They use long expiry, but wish they had whatsapp to send and received messages/calls on the go.

    • yes, it's just a $5/service connection fee then no monthly cost.

They're no advertised but they're still doing these data share SIMs if you ask for them.

The new 24 month plans don't allow them anymore I think but you'll be fine with this offer.

  • do you pay extra if you go over 10gb, or does your data turn off? if so whats the cost? tia

    • +2

It's $10 per extra gig you use.

      • Thanks mate, is there a way to turn off data once u reach 10gb?

        • +1

Yes in your phone settings. On android you can set your monthly limit. I've got a warning at 9.0GB and limit at 9.90GB. You can do this with android by going into your mobile data settings and dragging the levels to desired point.

        • @Sertacv2: legend

        • +2

@2real4u: just be careful because sometimes Optus thinks you've used more than your phone(maybe the way it calculates KB usage) tells you. So possibly consider using a safer level such as 9.6-9.7GB.

  • Hi guys,

How's the internet speed with this deal compare to say, that of Boost (4G)?

  • Has anyone actually got confirmation that this has been successful?

    • +1

I upgraded my $30 My Sim Only plan last night to this $40 plan. It only took a couple hours for my mobile calls to become unlimited (from 300minutes). Today, I noticed the data has now been changed from 1.5GB to 11.5GB. My next billing cycle is 26th March.

I also managed to bundle it with my Optus ADSL and student discount, bringing it down to $27 p/m.

      Also, I used live chat.

    • I received a email about recontracting post paid service and a keeping you in the know email shortly after finishing in the chat. But nothing since.

  • i have an student discount code which i can share to the person who contact me first
