they arent that advanced, then again neither are the users
As a Mac user, it's when we try and read and write data from our Mac's on other PC's that give us the most trouble. Jumping through hoops to get this is just Meh …
So being a Mac user what colour ink do you use to write the data?
the same as you friend
Jumping through hoops to get this is just Meh
Why not just buy a computer that works properly?
I have never understood why Mac Users choose to inflict so much grief upon themselves, and pay extra for that non-functionality.
I've had my Mac for 5 years now and it still works like new for me, seen people go through heaps in 5 years, it works for me I guess ..
You mean it works for you providing you stay in the somewhat aloof and insular "Mac World", and don't attempt to share or interact with the normal PC population?
Still banging on about this???? Ever heard of email/pdf/office for mac. Seriously you are starting to make me wonder if you have ever used a Mac. And look at the language "aloof and insular", "normal"…… Stick your head into a uni lecture, or a food court somewhere, or in fact anywhere public that people have laptops out in. See anyone using macs? Your concept of normal is in fact an aloof and insular position itself.
You really don't understand the concept of a joke, eh?
Please, get over it.
See anyone using macs?
Macs are awesome technology, and very nice devices. I love the sleek form factor and superb industrial design. It is the Users that I am poking fun at, not the machines.
Most people who use Macs have no idea what the technology is, They become insular because they don't realise that Macs aren't actually "Special", and that there are actually programs and apps that can be installed on Macs that allow them to do things like write to NTFS or to play video files that are not natively supported by the Mac OS.
They don't realise that Macs use the same USB ports and HDMI connections as any other device. So they will pay more for a Mac version, even for connection cables!
This thread is a perfect example. Many (most?) Mac users don't understand that they don't EVER have to buy a "Mac Hard Drive". The only reason such devices exist is to prey upon the ignorance of Mac Users.
You think I am nasty for informing them, even if I use a sarcastic tone? Why don't you direct your anger towards the HDD manufacturers who make special Mac Hard Drives and charge a higher price for them than for the same drives sold to the rest of the general public?
Maybe you think that is acceptable, but I don't.
@llama: Your joke is in a a thread that will naturally be read by mac users. The butt of the joke is mac users….. You see where I am going with this?
I have a sense of humour but you are taking the piss out of the people in front of you whilst having a giggle with mates beside you. If you can't see the problem with that I give up.
Your joke is in a a thread that will naturally be read by mac users. The butt of the joke is mac users….. You see where I am going with this?
Nope. Honestly, I have no idea.
There would be no point if I made the comments in a thread that wasn't read by Mac Users.
you are taking the piss out of the people in front of you whilst having a giggle with mates beside you
Nope. I am informing people how silly they are to blindly believe what they get told by manufacturers.
Do you think it is OK that manufacturers bullshit to Mac Users that they must buy "special Mac products" at a higher price?
The fact that Mac Users just suck it up is the joke.
Then again, people pay extra for bottled water in the belief that it is "healthier", and I reckon that is a joke as well. LOL
It's designed to be super slim and stylish like Macs are. But a house brick size one would match a standard PC I'd say…
All that means is that it is pre-formatted to HFS+ instead of FAT32/NTFS. Windows users are like Americans though, think they are the only ones who exist.
I have a Mac Air, PC and Hackintosh. Why not have both 😛? Old El Paso kid
and presumably no reason it can't be reformatted to whatever you like
All that means is that it is pre-formatted to HFS+ instead of FAT32/NTFS
Modern Macs can NATIVELY read and write FAT and can read NTFS. However to share seamlessly, the HDD should be formatted to vFAT
http://www.mactip.net/guide-how-to-format-an-external-drive-…
Modern Macs, in fact even much older macs also have native USB. Which according to your original comment appears to come as a surprise to you……
In fact iMacs were amongst the first mass market PC's to build in USB. The addition of support to Win 98 was obviously a much bigger driver of adoption but the timing was similar between the platforms.
And yes I was aware of the ability of OSX to read/write FAT and read NTFS. I have never understood why Windows users go out of their way on public forums to tell us Mac users how backward and grief stricken we are…….. I can only put it down to insecurity, or perhaps immaturity.
Which according to your original comment appears to come as a surprise to you
It was sarcasm. Perhaps, just like for Hard Drives, people on Macs cannot read that?
I have never understood why Windows users go out of their way on public forums to tell us Mac users how backward and grief stricken we are…….
I have never understood why Mac users put up with such incompatibilities in such expensive devices. Just imagine if iPhones couldn't make or receive phone calls to anything other than iOS?
I can only put it down to insecurity, or perhaps immaturity.
Nah, it's just poking a bit of fun… everyone knows that Macs are better at everything, right?
However, in fact most Mac users wouldn't have a clue that they don't actually NEED to buy special Hard Drives, Mice, Screens, RAM, Video Cards, etc. So, it's helpful for to point out that Macs are not actually very special at all… they are actually quite generic devices that get sold at a massive cost premium.
If you want to educate people fine, educate them. But don't pretend you weren't being a smartarse about it. If you are unsure what I mean by this compare your first comment to mine. Which one is written to educate and not judge? Hmm although apologies to the Americans, that was unfair to at least a few of them, not Donald Trump though……
Also look at the anti mac comments from others, your first comment set the tone. Hence I replied. Maybe I've been trolled, but I thought ozbargain was a more live and let live place than it is.
But don't pretend you weren't being a smartarse about it.
I wasn't pretending. Sarcasm = I was taking the piss. It is a bit of humour, not a personal attack.
Mac users make their choice for their own reasons, and as long as they are happy with that then it's all cool.
500GB, what is this, storage for ants?
500GB is huge in the Mac World. They have only been able to buy hard drives in the past 12 months.
The post above is a joke. You know, an attempt at humour.
50 Only or Only 100?!
100
And I thought that Macs had finally progressed to the point that they could use standard components, via a standard USB port.
