Good deal, I just went and bought some today. There are 6 types of cooper oil filters for $3.99 too. Repco has 6 litres of Penrite with free oil filter for $29.99 also which might work out better for some people.

Only buy castrol if you want sludge in your engine

Useless comment if you can't back it up with evidence. I have been using Castrol in my car 18 yo Ford Laser and it still runs like new, no issues at all.

      • In the last 15 years there have been more issues with sludge in cars using castrol, and higher service intervals, than any other major oil brand. If you change every 5k/6 months then you might get away with it but castrol DO NOT make an oil that can go to 15k without degrading. 10k is even a stretch.

      Metal particles more like.

I'm a huge, huge oil nerd.
I actually ENJOY studying and comparing Used Oil Analysis results between brands.

Never once have I seen Magnatec bring back a good UOA.
Even EDGE is a hit and miss (some tight clearanced engines show NO wear metals, anything old tends to show a LOT of copper and Iron).

So long as you've actually sent your oil away, then you can claim quite happily "It runs like new", but most people havent even compression\leakdown tested their engines, and wouldn't know if it was down a couple of HP due to wear and ring gap.
And there really is no way to check bearing wear without tearing down the engine.

All I know is, if I need cheap oil, I'll be sticking with the Shell HX range, not the castrol.

Your millage may vary, and feel free to post up any UOA's you've had done.

I'd actually LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to find an engine that Castrol Magnatec was designed for and shows no wear.
Please, if you have the evidence, prove me wrong.
Otherwise, tens of UOA's on BITOG forums for you to see the 'bad' results for yourself.

  • Good price for good "every 5k" oil.
