    That's a lot of pixels..

Anyone know much about the CPU?

    • +1

+1, would also like to know.

      • +2

Core M3.sits below the 13,15,17 series. not a powerhouse. But good if you are only looking for browsing the net watching movies.Excel and word. not really for games

        • +7

          Isn't m3 what's used on the macbook
This seems similar spec but heaps cheaper.

        • +1

This would only be good for basic Excel usage. More complex/advanced Excel workbooks would not run very well on an m at all.

        • +1

          @PVA:

I don't know why you got negged. Ozbargain voting system in the comments is possibly the stupidest feature of this website.
          You're right.

        • @cDNA:
Thanks. I though it was the same.

You can plus to even it out..

        • +2

@PVA: Its silly yeah… people neg simply because a fact you state is to their displeasure! haha… eh… in any case back to the CPU, it's the same one in the Surface 3 Pro apparently, and seems much better than the 900mhz would signify.

        • @PVA: Zenbook and MacBook have a similar processor and target market. The macbook's processor is at a higher clock rate.
Zenbook has more ports inc USB3. I think it might be a little bit less than a mm thinner too. It has a more traditional keyboard.
MacBook has only one port, USB C. It also is lighter, has much longer battery life and a backlit keyboard. It looks better and comes in three nice anodised colours. It also costs almost twice as much.

        • @entropysbane:
Yeah the MacBook is hugely expensive.

      • It's a bit of a dog.

Sits at 900Mhz normally (although can turbo boost to 2.2Ghz).
It's lucky to get 4th series i3 sort of performance… The graphics will perform a bit better however.

        • you mean m3 not i3. i3 is a class above the m3

        • +2

@dy4me: no he means the 4th gen i3 .. as in the older i3 cpu's

    • That's a lot of pixels..

I seriously don't understand why you'd want that reso on a small screen. But then again tablets and phones…

  • Could not find a review on this model only the 1080p version
Is a 72% gamut good enough for using Lightroom?

    • +1

Keep in mind having a higher res means the GPU is under more stress to pump out more pixels.

    • +3

The processor is garbage. Avoid it if you're doing photo work.

    • its will work but will be a bit slow, kirabook deal now on will be a lot better for lightroom ect.

      • Thank you but does kirabook have a good gamut?
I'm a noob and don't know the minimum gamut for accurate colours

        • probably yes , i remember it being a selling point on the 4k version so i guess it will still be good , as the kirabook is toshibas answer to the macbook pro. but if you really want to be doing a lot of lighroom work i suggest getting a monitor or a desktop.

  • From what I've read of the 1080p reviews, it seems real world battery life is around 5-7 hours. With the qHD screen, expect to knock an hour off that runtime.

  • Hi What's faster this CPU or a Core i5 4200U 1.6Ghz

    • The i5 is much faster, its a 15 watts CPU vs this one at 4.5 Watts.

  • Very tempting. Where to buy good extended warranty to go with this laptop?

    • +6

      don't buy extended warranty

      • +1

Third party warranty is (from what I've read) quite pointless. You can however extend the manufactory warranty directly with Asus who has a service centre in Sydney, Melb, Bris and Perth.

        • The service centre in Melbourne is a PC store with a contract. I've never had a good experience with them unfortunately.

  • Does anyone know how far the display can hinge? Last Asus I saw didn't go much beyond 90 degrees so awkward viewing angles

    • Looks like this one does better http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxMTk5/z/A0MAAOSwxp9W1k8Y/$_57.JPG

"The Skylake Core m3-6Y30 is an extremely frugal dual-core SoC with a clock speed of 900 MHz, which can be overclocked to 2 GHz (both cores) or 2.2 GHz (single core) using the Turbo. The m3-6Y30 has a TDP of only 4.5 watts, which makes it ideal for fanless subnotebooks. On paper, the m3 chip offers performance on par with previous-generation i3 CPUs (for example the Core i3-5010), which have a much higher TDP of 15 watts, but of course lack the extensive Turbo-Boost capabilities. In a passively-cooled notebook, actual performance depends on the implementation - and it turns out that the UX305CA can't keep what the m3-6Y30 promises: even very short load cycles resulted in a - sometimes very noticeable - reduction of the CPU performance. During the X264 video-encoding benchmark test, for example, the subnotebook showed a clear drop in the frame rate during the four iterations (pass 1, #1: 76.5 fps; pass 1, #4: 67.2 fps). The same CPU in the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is capable of far better performance: while we recorded 1.79 points (multi) and 0.81 points (single) for the Cinebench R11.5 benchmark test, the Surface Pro 4 scored roughly 25 % higher (2.27 / 0.98 points)."

    • +3

      I understood the word frugal.

      • -1

        Don't we all?

        • Frugal is Ozbargainers delight

      • Basically, it uses a fanless technology which means the CPU can't use as much power or else the computer would overheat. This consequently results in lower speeds to fan cooled counterparts.

  • +1

    THAT'S A NICE ASS SCREEN

  • Is the SSD and RAM upgradable?

    • SSD maybe, RAM most probably not.

    • That one has gone up to $995 (was $795 when posted).

      For a fourth gen i5 (4200U) I think it's a bit dated for around $1k.

But yeah I would agree that for under $800 it was a better deal than this.

      • Ah, I hadn't realised it had gone up to essentially $1k.

A few were able to get the laptop for $770 (with the backpack removed). Microsoft is also currently running a $25 cashback for Office 365, so $745 for the laptop was a really good price. You could essentially get it for $695 ( another $50 less) if you were to sell Office 365 of Gumtree/eBay.

Each has their pros and cons, but performance-wise it beats the Core M3 processor of the Zenbook.

  • This is a nice, well built machine with a very good screen for the price, but the QHD screens on the Yoga 900 and XPS13 look far nicer. The colours just seem a bit off.. The chassis is also a finger print magnet and hard to clean.

  • If only it was a IX cpu and dedicated gpu haha, still good deal though

  • This ultrabook's gpu is so trash. Its natively running 4K even though its a Intel HD 515. Upvote for being a good deal, I still suggest NOT buying it.

    • Can't you just downscale it via the monitor settings? Surely no one really runs a 13" screen at 4K right? Is that even necessary?

I'd say drop it to 1080 or even 720 would be good.

      • 720 wouldn't look good at all, 1080p is great though. Even 1366x768 isn't great.

        • neither would look good on that screen

1600x900 might be decent to scale down to though.

        • @CVonC:

So you're saying 1080p would look worse than 900p? Serious question as i'm not sure what factors 900p on this zenbook are better

        • @DAOtmc:

in scaling u want it to be a factor of the original reso.. otherwise it'll look fuzzier

  • +3

dont buy it guys.. the cpu sucks. so much. this computer is LAGGY even opening chrome. the touchpad SUCKS and so does the touch screen. it disables itself if you sleep the laptop.

i bought it 2 WEEKS ago and returned it the next week.

spent 1.1k on the inspiron 15 7000u on the dell store instead. it has a quad core + crazy gpu and is 15" 1080p. just needs ssd.

    • Should also add that colors on the QHD screen are very odd.

  • Also.. there are many UX305CA variants, some with Full HD. How do you know this UX305CA is QHD?

    Note this is: UX305CA-DQ060T

    • +1

Bing lee sell the same model & mention QHD

      • Good find - thanks.

  • +2

    How about this Kira 8ram, 128hdd 5th gen i5 for $800 at 1.1kg 1080p? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-Kira-Ultrabook-i5-2-2GHz-…

    • CPU is better while screen is worse, I guess it comes down to what you prefer more… I do think when it comes to the looks I'd prefer the Asus.

    • Good find… Much nicer CPU, and screen still a very decent 1080p

    • Damn it, Bing Lee eBay doesn't ship to WA

  • Would you guys pay more and go for the XPS 13? That's what I'm trying to decide ATM! =/
