Making use of the strong Aussie dollar at the moment, I found these gems on Amazon.com

Price for the linked card is AUD $264.68 shipped - The cheapest R9 380 (without shipping) in Australia is currently $279 so saving at least $15 (5%). Compared with the cheapest XFX R9 380 DD ($299 pre-shipping), it's a saving of $35 or almost 12%. Those savings go up even further if you don't live in the Eastern capitals. Note this is only the 2GB version, so if you're gaming at 4K, you might want to keep looking.

I also found the compact Sapphire r9 380 (for use in ITX builds) for $303.12 which is 50% off and almost impossible to find locally (I found one store I've never heard of before, and it was $600). Much cheaper than the R9 nano, if you don't need the absolute maximum performance.

so saving at least $15 (5%).

In my opinion it's not really worth the effort to save $15.

It's only 2GB, and that's the absolute minimum for gaming now days
    - why would you bother spending so much on a card with such small memory?
    - if you aren't gaming, why buy such a card in the first place?

The amount of memory is not just about 4K resolution… even at 1080p it's about having a card with enough memory so that the textures etc are held in memory properly. Read this: http://www.tweaktown.com/tweakipedia/89/much-vram-need-1080p…

    • The problem with that review is that it doesn't consider playability. Of course it's going to perform better with 4GB of RAM but usually at settings that do show gains will get you low frame rates regardless of whether you have 2 or 4GB. Though it depends on what you consider "low frame rates" as, 30fps to me looks choppy but to others it could be perfectly fine.

      GTA 5 for example:
      http://pclab.pl/art68130-35.html high setting, roughly 50fps, minimal performance difference between 2 v 4GB
      http://pclab.pl/art68130-36.html very high setting, roughly 30fps, shows gains between 2 v 4GB

Most people usually aim for 60fps so 2 vs 4GB is kind of pointless unless the price difference is tiny.

      • What you say is technically very true.

However, GTA is not the only game out there, and who knows how more modern games (and those that get released next year) will behave?

Consider this: would you buy a PC with 4GB of RAM in it, since that is technically all that is needed in most games available today?

Or would you get some extra RAM so you had a bit of headroom, and/or some "future proofing"?

    • agreed.

I have purchased two r9 380 4GB for about the same price in the last 3-4 months

      (both from ebay)

This isnt a bargain even if it was from Australia.

  • Yep 2 ziggabytes doesnt cut it. I remember seeing a fair few of these for sale due to the lack of meggage.

  • if your not gaming above 1080 it would most likely be fine.

    • No, it won't. Even my 970 (yes yes, I know it only really has 3.5GB, but still more than this card offers) struggles with keeping it's RAM usage under 3GB or so in a variety of games if I want to crank some settings and texture details up, even at only 1080P.

You need at least 4GB of graphics card memory nowadays. If you only have a 2GB card right now, or are buying an entry level one then 2GB will be fine. This isn't an entry level card though.

  • Should i get this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX960-4GB-GDDR5… or the one in the post?

  • I was about to get the 2 gb version but i saw the 4gb drop to 195 usd think i got the last one but it said more on the way total was about 283 shipped is was it worth the purchase?
