    Title is a bit misleading then. Private insurance is required to get that price.

    • No, I don't think that's the deal at all. The deal is "NO GAP", so you get any Ray Bans from the $149 range, they charge your health fund and then you pay nothing.

      Pretty sure that if you wanted to buy the glasses yourself you are welcome to it, but it costs you $149 for glasses in the $149 range. Is it really a good deal?

      OPSM is offering Ray-Ban, one of the world’s most iconic and recognisable brands, at no out-of-pocket expense to our eligible health fund customers!

      • The OP wrote the title as a complete set of frame and lenses for $149. But OPSM states you need to be a health fund member to get the free lenses, if not you can just pay $149 for the frame.

        Hence the title is misleading because it lacks the "must be health fund member" to get the complete set at $149.

        Not everyone is a health fund member and can get it at that price.

        • I do notice that at the bottom of the page it says: "Price includes non-prescription lenses only".

          In that case, you can get the vision direct deal which does include lenses. Standard fit starting at $112.95 and single prescription lenses are around $39. http://www.visiondirect.com.au/designer-eyeglasses/Ray-Ban/-…

          In my personal experience, the staff in an OPSM are salespeople who will try to convince you to pay more than you expected. Pretty sure that's why they require lenses added in-store, not online. Not sure if it works the other way too. Can you talk them into giving you the lenses included?

          @twocsies:

          I've found OPSM very poor value. Even when having your eyes tested they charge you $70 for the retinal scan, where as Spec Savers, the scan is included free in the medicare covered test.

        • @ash2000:
          The tests performed at both places is different? I believed it was standard across shops.

        • @Thtsnck:

          Exactly the same eye test and retinal scan. Except OPSM charge $70 for the scan component…..and the sales staff are trained to be very insistent to take the scan.

          I've also found OPSM are reluctant to give you your precription details (preferring for you to shop in store), where as spec savers will gladly print it out for you.

        • @ash2000: isn't everything covered by Medicare?
          Sorry for diverting from the post

          @Thtsnck:

          No, because $70 is well outside what Medicare will reimburse optometrists for the scan service. I've heard that some portion of the $70 can be claimed from Medicare, but I can't confirm that . OPSM certainly didn't mention it was claimable, and I'm sure they would have if it were.

          Needless to say, I don't go to OPSM anymore.

  • How much are they normally?

    • Aren't they normally $149 minus whatever your health cover usually deducts? So if your health cover pays 80% of optometry, then these glasses normally cost you about $30.

      • then these glasses normally cost you about $30.

        plus the annual cost of the cover…

        • It's not worth it for me. I don't wear glasses…

  • Boo opsm.

  • This is a great deal. You get free raybans with health cover, got a pair last year same offer.

  • Can you get this deal without health cover?

    • +1

      I think $149 without health cover, free with health cover. Worth asking how much out of pocket if you want them tinted if you dont already have prescription sunglasses.

  • so how do i get the prescription on these ray bans? i went add to cart then next and next now its at payment

    • In store only I would assume.

  • How much is the saving compared to "non-promoting" time? I felt there is no saving at all because the frame is RRP, you pay prescription lens and you use health fund.

  • At OPSM, the normal price is frame price + lens price. Lens price starts st $150? (Can't remember) and goes up for different additions such as the coatings etc. so looking at this you're looking at $300+ normal price. But these are "standard plastic lens". Not sure if they include any coatings. Probably try to up sell you on those so may cost a bit more out of pocket?

  • so if i don't have health insurance, do i still get the prescription lens included in the $149 deal?

  • I went to OPSM today. The $149 frames are bad. They are cheap plastic frames with Rayban logos. I am with HCF. Frames + lens= 250. HCF covers 140ish. I need to pay $100. This is not a deal at all.

    I went to OPSM a lot in the past. I paid more and get good customer and aftercare services. I decided to not go there anymore because service quality is bad and they barey have any promotions since last year.
