  • How does promotix work? Do you need to sign up for a $35 membership to access these tickets?

    • nope, this one is free to the public

      • Does anyone have paid membership, and able to advise if it is worth it? How easy / difficult is it to obtain tickets for the advertised shows?

        • I have a paid membership, and have always found it very easy to access the tickets for various shows. They have recently changed their pricing model and I am less enthusiastic even though I know I got my money's worth in the past year. The basics of the change are - was charging $15 or $30 for different levels of membership, now charging $35 for all memberships, and it feels like double-dipping because they went from a $0 admin fee to $2.95 admin fee whether you get 1-4 tickets. I think it will work against them in the long run - I am more inclined to get 4 tickets even if I think I only need 2 tickets initially, because I will likely find friends to take. If I got 2 tickets, then 2 more if friends were interested, it would cost me $5.90 total so it's better for me to pay $2.95 "just in case" but then they have more empty seats if my plans with friends evaporate. The fee applies to events which are public, or for members-only.

There were a few Adelaide Fringe shows this year (some of those shows were $35 tickets per adult) so on that basis alone, it saved me money. However, there were very few offerings for this festival compared to Melbourne Comedy Festival. Last year I saw ~8 shows at the Melbourne Comedy Festival at zero cost, but 5 of those shows were free tickets for the general public. I expect to see a flurry of freetix deals on OzB again this year when the general public tickets are available for shows again. My wife and I have definitely seen movies, comedy shows, and theatre events we would not have otherwise seen due to ticket cost, so we've probably derived $400+ savings over the past year for the initial $30 outlay.

Based on my experience in the past year, I would say this is a good deal for those in Melbourne and less of a deal for people in other states (based purely on the number of events, not the quality thereof). I personally don't want free tickets to the Caravan and Camping Show, but if you want to save money, it would be a good idea. Some of the events (TV audiences) are never going to appeal to me so the price and/or admin fee is irrelevant, but whatever makes you happy.

          Hope that helps!

  • thanks, grabbed myself some free ticekts

  • +1

His act was on at the Fringe at Flinders over the weekend. A much smaller show I'd imagine (both in time and space), but it was very enjoyable.

  • saw this a week or so ago and it was great; highly recommend :)

  • very nice show
