Acer CB11 2016 model is on sale for only USD 149, was 179. Should perform decently as i am currently using a toshiba cb2 with the same RAM and processor and it works fine up to 10 tabs. HOwever the acer is more portable, lighter and has a better matte IPS screen. Worthwhile IMO if u want a cheap fast reliable laptop that browses sites and watches videos!

      It's a Chrome book so definitely no windows. They don't need much processing power.

        The Lenovo 100S quad core processor and same price, so ….

    • n2840 runs well on chromeOS. Windows slows down a lot over the course of 1 year tbh. This one has a good IPS display. It will run fine for basic tasks, also chromebooks have multi touch gestures. the lenovo touchpad is not even multitouch lol

        • lol okay it will owrk fine on this chromebook too

          People use touch pad on the go. Try use your beloved razer mouse on the peak hour train in Sydney. Probably need to borrow someone else lap as mouse pad lol

        • -7

          @eisniwre: people sitting on packed peak hour sydney trains with their huge ass laptop out doing 'work' are idiots

          see people all the time typing up spreadsheet or emails woo, saved you a whole 4 minutes when you got to work… couldnt it really wait?

          @Makoto:
          They are just show-offs, "look how important and busy I am"…

        • @Makoto:… With their razer mouse?

    • No Windows? It runs ChromeOS…

    Reading Amazon review this seems ok. Wonder if I should just get this. What I do with my old laptop now is just browsing, connect to my nas, files/photos management. That's all…

  • If you've got the C720 there isn't much point updating as the specs are basically the same. the CPU goes from 1.4 —> 2.16 ghz

      the screen is much better on this, and the lid is aluminium

    • +1

      @Davo1111 - You seem to have linked to the wrong model for comparison there ?!?

      The model you are comparing with is the CB3-111, the one for sale is the CB3-131.

      • I think the only difference between the two is the screen?

        • And as nathan-drake alluded to, it boasts sturdier build quality, and is supposedly able to withstand a fall.
          It also has different port arrangement, and provision for secure lockdown, as it seems to have been designed with the education market in mind.
          Both models, CB3-111 and CB3-131, are also "fan-less" and run cooler than the C720.
          Overall, you can expect similar performance unless you opt for the new 4GB model, so if you have the C720, I would agree there isn't a really compelling argument for upgrade.

          The biggest plus is that this new model is actually currently CHEAPER than the discontinued model ;-)

    Whats the point of getting a chrome book? May as well get a tablet.

    • +2

      A lot of people wouldn't consider laptops and tablets as equivalent products ;-)

        Is chromebook even a laptop? It seems very limited?

        • +2

          I don't have a chromebook, but i do have a decent tablet buy still bought a cheap laptop ($200 Lenovo 100s, runs windows). Some things are just easier and better on a laptop. It has little power and small ram but still surprisingly zippy for basic uses. Pleasantly surprised me!

          Is chromebook even a laptop? It seems very limited?

          Yeah, of course it's a laptop…

          It is a classic laptop clamshell design with a screen that folds in via hinge to the connected keyboard and track-pad.
          It has USB ports, HDMI/Audio ports, and SD Card reader.
          And the O/S is designed for keyboard/pointing-device input as opposed to tablets which are designed for touch input.

          @Xizor
          I do have a Chromebook, and they are also surprisingly zippy for appropriate tasks, and great for travelling, if you only need to surf the net, check emails, edit documents on the go, etc.
          If you intend to play high-end games look elsewhere ;-)

          @oz-dave:

          I got one to do an assignment during my travels in Japan was the best thing ever it is light weight and great battery life and boot time is awesome.

          I use alot of google services on my android so it worked great and use google drive.

          If I was to lose this or have it break I would not lose any data at all :P

        • +1

          @DaTa:

          Yeah, I REALLY love the fact that if the Chromebook is broken/stolen/lost whilst travelling, I don't lose my data !!!

          And whilst I am pretty careful and haven't had any major virus issues on my Windows PCs, the Chromebook is even more immune and stable :-)

      CB has keyboard, super fast web browser with ublock (tablet browsers are slow, especially for video websites), usb ports, hdmi out, decent sized screen.

      Tablets are pretty much only for video watching and reading. CB can do all that plus much more including typing out long documents.

      • Can it run Microsoft Office?

        • yes it can (via emulating the android app, yes chromebooks can run android apps). It can also do it via MS Office online web app. It also has google docs/sheets with offline support. and you can also install crouton if u want to run libreoffice

        • @nathan-drake: Is the app as good as running it on a Macbook/Windows OS?

        • -2

          @GameChanger: I personally dont know, I dont use microsoft products, I use google docs/sheets/slides. Macbook is of course the best laptop on the market, if u have one of those u dont need anything else

        • @nathan-drake: wow really? I just don't like google docs.

          I wanted to get this as an extra just to browse and if I drop it won't matter. Tossing up between this and a tablet/ipad.

        • +1

          @GameChanger:

          You will dropping less money on this than an iPad, and iPads don't run traditional Microsoft Office either ;-)

          I find surfing the net with a tablet/iPad vs using a laptop somewhat different. I prefer the "desktop style" experience of using the keyboard and Chrome browser on the Chromebook, but you may prefer the tablet experience.

          That said, a Chromebook is designed for people who are Internet connected some of the time - if you want to install lots of "offline" applications and work extensively without an Internet connection, it may not be for you :-)
