This is a different offer, the previous offer worked for pre paid customers - this one is for post paid customers only.

      • And unlike last year's one, which was a bit secret squirrel, this is a publicly advertised offer as highlighted by the link above…

        • @jv: Because it was intended to be a promo for new subscribers only. This one is for all Telstra postpaid subscribers. I think…

  • Can a bigpond cable customer do this?

    • You need to have a Telstra mobile service I think.

  • Here we go again…🏈🏉..let the footy season commence.

  • I have a Telstra post-paid phone account, so I signed up from my phone. But once signed up, all you need to do to use the subscription is download the AFL Live app and login with "Your Telstra ID". I used Dad's Bigpond cable ID. So I'll give this to dad to use (Telechoice). I'm guessing the only thing he will miss out on is unmetered data.

I'm guessing the only thing he will miss out on is unmetered data.

If he's with Bigpond, use wifi for unmetered AFL access…

    • Is it unmetered on mobile?

      • +2

        Yes.

        • I was told it wasn't…Who's keen to try this out?

        • @hebe:

Telstra mobile handsets / tablets with any Telstra SIM (excluding International Roaming)

That includes Data Pass SIMs in a mobile handset via AFL Live Pass FAQ.

        • +1

"Video data usage is currently unmetered only for eligible Telstra customers using a compatible device in Australia."

        • @sween64: Would that be the same for NRL then? Sorry I should've read the original reply first hehe

        • @hebe:
tested on a prepaid sim that has no credit or data and played all the videos and live streaming fine.

      • Ok from here - its only some Telstra plans
        https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/NRL-2016/General-FAQs…

Do I pay for the data?
Standard data charges apply when downloading or using the app/NRL.com Match Centre. Video data usage is currently unmetered only for certain Telstra customers in respect of supported devices.

Video data usage is only unmetered for the following Telstra services:
        BigPond ADSL/Cable/NBN
Telstra mobile handsets / tablets with any Telstra SIM (excluding International Roaming)

        Telstra services excluded from unmetering:
Telstra Mobile Broadband (Dongles and mobile WIFIhotspots)
        Telstra Business Broadband
BigPond Internet (Dial Up/ Satellite/ Hourly Plans
        Telstra Air

        • Telstra mobile handsets / tablets with any Telstra SIM (excluding International Roaming)

but what if I'm on Telstra with a BYO phone?

        • @ynot1985:
I don't think they can really tell (well they can but not easily at a billing level). It means a device with a Telstra sim.

      • -4

        Is it unmetered on mobile?

        Not on prepaid…

        • +1

Really? Have you tested it out? If not then I suggest you refrain from giving out incorrect information and stop trolling.

Tested both AFL and NFL on a $0 credit 0 Data spare prepaid sim with last years 365 subscription offer and works fine.

          https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Mobile-Broadband-3G-4…

Telstra Rep from there confirmed it's unmetered.

        • @iamtezr:

Really? Have you tested it out?

Yep, I get charged for data usage on my iPad when I use the AFL app…

I don't have any postpaid Telstra services, just prepaid and cable…

        • @jv:

Another user here also confirmed that works fine as well(unmetered). Also Telstra rep in the thread I linked confirmed it's unmetered.

          Maybe it's just you.

        • @iamtezr:

I've got 21GB data on my account, so don't really care.

Anyway, already got it free from last year's post.

Anyway, thanks for pointing it out.

I'll send a message to Telstra about why some prepaid accounts get it free and others don't. I'm sure they'll sort it out for you…

        • +1

          @jv:
I think the defining feature is whether the data is Mobile Data or Mobile Broadband
ie if your data is on a "phone" SIM, then it's Mobile Data and is unmetered
If it's on a Data only SIM, then it's Mobile Broadband and it is metered as per jv's "terms and Conditions" above.
iPad SIM is probably a Data only SIM…

        • @jv: Where is the SIM? In the iPad or some form of hotspot?

        • @scubacoles: Makes sense. What about those who use Telechoice, Telstra 3G in all but name? Thoughts?

        • @sween64:

Where is the SIM? In the iPad or some form of hotspot?

          Telstra Wifi dongle

        • @jv: That's why you aren't getting unmetered data. It's actually dependant on the device it's in NOT the plan the SIM is on. They must do IMEI checks.

Put the same SIM in a mobile phone, turn on the hotspot and connect your iPad to its wifi. Then, if I'm correct, you should get unmetered streaming and videos within the AFL/NRL app.

        • @sween64:

That's why you aren't getting unmetered data

thanks, but I doubt I'd need it anyway… Currently have 21GB and I mainly use the AFL app when on my wifi at home, which is unmetered by Telstra.

      • Yes. All Telstra mobile services are unmettered on Telstra websites with the "Green Dot" logo.

  • Just signed up to this, got the link & signed in with my Telstra Account

    "Payment Type - Prepaid Online"

I am Post-Paid but i am unsure why it says that.

give it a test as it says my plan is "prepaid" when i am not.

    • You need a "Post-paid" phone service but the yearly subscription is a "pre-paid" one year subscription. So what that means is the AFL subscription is already prepaid until 2017.

    • That is referring to the subscription type.

  • +1

    Bloody brilliant. Thanks!

  • Awesome! Well done Telstra, finally something for free for all states to enjoy. Well done to OP for finding the deal.

  • +1

Gahhh i knew i would regret signing up with optus at some point.. that time has come

  • +1

When you dial the number - are you just given a subscription code to enter that can be applied against any login? Or do you have to login to the AFL site with the precise Telstra login?

I have enough family members with Telstra who wouldn't use this.

    • Hey there. You're sent an SMS with a link to register, so should be able to.

  • +1

    Brillant, thanks OP! $90 value!

  • +2

Damn. I moved my family over to pre-paid.

Sorry, this offer is not available to Pre-Paid customers.

Was the SMS I received when I tried anyway.

Luckily I've still got a subscription for 2016 thanks to last year's deal.

  • +2

I got this last year but since I already had one via the fantasy footy I waited until December to activate the one from telstra and I'll do the same with this, wait till December to use it for a free pass in 2017.

    • God damn, forgot to use my second pass in December so it expired in the new year :(

      • Ditto, tried to activate it last week.

      • -4

God damn, forgot to use my second pass in December

        Doesn't your phone have a calendar ?

        • +1

I don't even recall there being an expiry.
Let alone putting a reminder of the non-existent expiry in my calendar…

        • @scubacoles:

I don't even recall there being an expiry.

          It said 'expires 31-Dec-2015'

        • @jv:
My apologies, I used the Fantasy code last year, I thought this was in reference to the Tesltra code that was released in the middle of the year.

    • Pass expires 31 January 2017.

  • If someone who has this and could care less, do you mind doing it and PM me the code?

    • It uses Telstra account to verify so account username / pass.

      • I have that, just not mobile account.

        • +5

You dont get a code. You use your own personal Telstra user / pass to login to the AFL app. I doubt many people will want to pass their Telstra credentials to someone they dont know.

        • @GaelicAU:

I don't have the compatible Telstra mobile to type it into. But I do have a Telstra internet account with my own login details I can use.

        • @2jzzzz:
so that means you cant get it unless you pay.

    • +2

      couldn't care less*

  • i am assuming the last deal i did this free pass with Telstra was around August which is due to expire in Aug 2016 - so this will overide that and now expire on jan 2017?

  • +4

Umm… I may have tried with my Telechoice number and it appears to have worked. YMMV.

    • Yep, worked for me.

    • Great tip, but Shh!

    • Thanks mate! Good tip.

    • sadly it didnt work for me.
      comes up unknown application

      • +2

        Interesting…
Are you on one of the new "LIVE" plans?
My wife and I are on the old Kogan plan and both had success for this promo and last year's promo.

        • this. Mines the kogan plan.

        • am on the new telechoice plan and having no luck, anyone know a way around it?

        • yeah, one of the new live plans…
tried again a couple of times, and no luck

    • not working for me too
      too late?

  • +1

    It's all good for me!

  • +2

    Thanks heaps OP!!!

Managed to grab a work mobile to dial the code to get it going!!!

    Happy days!!!

    • Same here, winning!

  • Great deal, thanks!

  • -1

Happy to accept PMs of codes from someone who won't use it :)
Have Bigpond but not postpaid mobile

    • It doesn't work that way.

      • It does if you have bigpond but no Telstra post paid

  • Thanks so much

  • Keeps timing out for me. The page loads then it asks me to log in and when I log in it just loads indefinitely. Tried on my phone and on PC (different internet connections) and both time out.

  • +1

PM me a code please for a pack of eneloop

    • +2

"PM me a code please for a pack of eneloop"

      Ozbargain's choice of currency.
Who needs Bitcoins when we have Eneloops. :D

      • That's right

  • -5

So Telstra rort over $100 out of me a month for Cable Internet and i am not eligible? &*@#$^@#&)(!!!!!!!!

  • FYI - If you don't qualify for it as a freebie and want a discount on this, try going through your footy club and seeing if they offer a discounted rate. I think I got $30 off, and like the idea that my club gets a cut of what I paid.

  • +2

    I don't watch AFL
    for AFL: http://tel.st/gt7y
    Activate before 31 Dec 2016

    • your code is coming up as invalid?
anyone got an AFL code that they dont' need

      • Maybe someone beat you to it

  • so how does the unmetered data work again?

    • +1

Last year I used an out-of-credit Telstra prepaid SIM and could stream AFL games. Good times.

    • You can browse Telstra websites which have the "Green Dot" logo and will not incur any data charges.

  • can i sign up with a $10 sim for this?

  • If someone doesn't want this and willing to give it away, please PM me. I am an AFL fan but unfortunately not a Telstra customer.

  • I did this last year, but the nrl one only worked on my phone, it didn't work on my computer. Did anyone have any luck?

    • AFAIK this is due to licencing, ie it only works over the Telstra mobile network. I may work with your PC tethered to your phone?

      • You're right, it's a licensing thing, though it's not to do with your connection type, it's to do with your device.

      • No, it worked on my phone via the app. I streamed this at home so it's going thru the same network. But when I log in on the PC, it gets to the games but when I try to play it, it doesn't stream. Watching it on the phone is no fun.
