Optus - Pre-Order Samsung Galaxy S7 Plan $64/Mth, S7 Edge $71/Mth or $100/Mth with 18GB Data (Min. 24 Mths)

Hello there,
Since Telstra & Optus commenced pre-ordering Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, I started looking for the best plan and found Optus $130 plan as best one.
Optus currently offering $30 off on $130 plan for the rest of plan. It means in 24 months, the user will end up paying $2400 in 24 months and the value out of it, he/she gets will be amazing.

unlimited calls & text in Australia.
18Gb of Data.
Unlimited calls to 32 countries.(amazing for overseas people)
Up to 10 days free travel pack to zone 1 countries. (http://www.optus.com.au/shop/Mobile-Site/International-Roami…)
Fair use policy applies

In addition, you get free Samsung Gear VR worth $150.
Sounds good to me….thought if someone wants to take advantage of the current offer…lets share the bargain.

I know Optus offer has been shared previously.(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/231932) but I let admin decide whether we need to highlight the new demanding Galaxy S7/S7 Edge as part of it or merge it with Iphone deal. Additionally, that deal is now marked as expired.

Please put the correct price in the title.

$100 per month is not a bargain. Please update price.

    • I completely agree with you. The only reason I shared this as bargain is the amount of values user get in the $100 package is not offered by any other telco company.

  • It's not a bad plan at all. For $100 a month you get 18GB data, plus unlimited pretty much everything (included International calls to 32 countries).

You can also get data share SIMs for a $5 one-off fee, and share the data across to other devices too.

Why does the title say $64 per month but text says $100 per month.

      The old bait and switch…

    • +3

      inflation for slow readers?

My woolworth mobile plan (optus) with 5 Gigs and $250 calls Cost me $432 over 2 years. So unless the phone is $1868+ no deal

    • +3

Does you plan have unlimited international calls, international data roaming, 4g speed etc though?
Can't really compare the two as they offer a completely different product range. .

      • I only meant in my case i dont need any of above. In “some/most“ cases such bundling is false economy

  • +2

I don't get it, is it $64/$71 or $100 per month?

EDIT: The plans are different with the cheapest our each handset type being what's in the title, and the OP's recommended plan is the $100 month plan (which is actually $104/month since you still pay $4/month for the handset (edge).

This deals details really needs to be cleaned up, it's really poorly written and misleading.

  • The minimum cost is $64 or $71/mth, but if you opt for the $130 My Plan Plus plan @$100, you get 18G data/month + unlimited calls/text.

    Deal updated.

    • Actually, the $130 Plan at $100 offer expires on March 10. This phone is for pre-order and is only available on March 11. When I select S7 and the $130 plan, my cart still shows a total monthly cost of $130 not $100.

So $100/mth deal may not be available?

Edit: "PRE-ORDER BEGINS FEBRUARY 26TH 12:01 AEDT". Will check back then. Start time updated.

I am on $130 plan. When product is added and you go for checkout, it will come as $130 but when you will receive your first bill, it will be $100 per month.

There will be 2 credits on bill

        1. Monthly handset credit
        2. Promo $30 off
        • Ok thanks, will leave the deal as is then.

    • thanks for the link.

  • Are these made out of S6 parts? Seems cheap for a Galaxy phone launch.

  • $64 per month, 500MB Data, $76 for 3000MB.

      Rubbish.

    For the OB community:

    S7 handset from Mobileciti: $1099.00
    Vaya Power Plan 18, 24 months: $432.00
    Total: $1531
Includes: $650 Talk, Unlimited SMS, 1.5GB Data

    This Plan Total: $1536
Includes: Unlimited Calls, SMS, 500MB Data

Not a bargain if you ask me.

    • and, according to the link from trishool above the optus one will be locked to Optus as soon as their sim is inserted. outright phones wont do this.

Disagree to a certain extent. While yes, the total $$$ cost once everything is factored in does end up being more expensive, you are paying for it by outlaying a hefty amount of money up-front which isn't practical or possible for some people.

While being on a plan cost more in the long run, the inherent value is there. Subsidized monthly repayments (you could invest that full $1000 somewhere else), higher and faster data connection (4G) and 24 month warranty under ACCC legislation (https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/optus-mobile-provides-…)

I doubt Mobileciti, Kogan, ect… would budge after the first 12 months without making you jump through hoops. I used to work with the TIO (ombudsman) so I know consumer protection laws with telcos are always on the side on the consumer. :)

Pros & cons with both options but you can't say there is no value in this deal.

    • Give it a few months and the S7 will be 699

      • Thats the exact price point where I will jump in.
$100 per "s". The S7 is the phone I want but I am not paying more that $700 for it.
Having a good look at the S6 price drop-off on Ozbargain, it shouldn't be more than ~4-5 months tops.

    • vaya? LMFAO

  • I negotiated a better plan while upgrading to an S7edge with Vodafone, $100 a month with 20GB data.

"No problems. If you upgrade online with me today, I can match the Optus price of $100 per month and I'll give you the S7 Edge 32GB with unlimited calls within Australia, unlimited texts worldwide, 20GB of data, 120 minutes of international calls to select countries and unlimited international calls to 10 select countries. What do you think?"

I took the deal, I used the optus deal as leverage, the original upgrade plan was $98 with only 8GB data.

    • Unless you want unlimited voice txt when travelling overseas and some overseas data then voda is similar.
Optus is arguably a better deal still.

      • extra 2gb a month here out weighs any potential benefits during overseas travel

    • How did you upgrade online with that plan? I couldn't see where to chat with a representative online. Did you speak to someone on the phone first?

      • I signed into my account, and while I was looking through the upgrade page a chat popped up automatically asking if I would like help.

Might only happen during office hours.

        • Thanks, I'll give that a go tomorrow. Going to try and get the same deal.

        • @Trozza:

          They wouldn't match it..

"I have checked with my manager and as we're always happy to price match the directive we've been given is not on this plan. "

  • $67 for S7 Edge on the $83 plan ($60plan + $23) through Unidays and $10 discount for having optus broadband

    • It seems I cant combined both discounts. It did not reduced the cost by $10 although I selected existing Optus customer (there is no option to say we are broadband customer).

      • You have to ask them on livechat or by calling them.

  • Can somebody confirm whether GS7 Edge is using the Exynos or the Snapdragon chipset?

    • mr google can

    • Snapdragon :)
