Actually both red and white is cheaper at $67.85

      • hahaha whoops, here we go again :)

      • Nice find.

  • 1866 - great ram :)

So glad RAM is dropping back down again.

    • Bought RAM before price increase, enduring BSOD and crashes till it drops again…

      • most ram modules have lifetime warranty. i had a couple sticks that were 4 years old go faulty, took them to MSY and they swapped them on the spot.

(assuming your sticks have gone bad)

        • Haha, we didn't come down in the last shower! MSY swapping RAM on the spot after 4 years? True?

    • Is it?
Isnt this just because it's ddr3, not 4.

      • Both are dropping

  • Can someone confirm if the 1866Mhz Ram is compatible with this motherboard?
    https://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/B85-G43-GAMING.html#…

the motherboard has up to 1600Mhz listed but I assume the memory would just run at a slower speed. I would appreciate it if someone can confirm as I would rather buy 1866Mhz in case of an upgrade since I bought this Mobo for a short term build.

    • Hmm, back in the sandy bridge/ivy bridge era when I was researching alot of stuff for a build and I came across this same question more or less myself. Back then the answer was along the lines of: yes it can, it's just that it's technically overclocking to get it to run at that speed. However the ram is tested and guaranteed to run at those specs, so on the same note, you are overclocking nothing (no voltage increases etc). The motherboard just needs to think it is and then it's all hunky dory and will run at the spec speeds with no negative side effects for the ram or motherboard. I believe you had to manually set the ram frequency in your BIOS to get it to run at the full speeds BTW. Popping it in and changing nothing would work, but it would default to 1600 or whatever.

As I said though, this is info from several years ago and my recollection may be sketchy.

    • It'll be fully compatible. Will just run at 1600MHz rather than 1866.

      • Thanks I did more research after I posted and the consensus is that it will just run at lower speed.

You can probably get better timings if you lower it, but the difference is very small

I've been hammering most sites over the last couple of days… For serious notebook RAM
Amazon is dicking me around, will not allow any delivery/pickup options. CamelX3 thinks Amazon don't have stock.

Seems the promotion isn't all Kingston RAM.

    Kingston 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 2133MHz HyperX Impact SODIMM
    HX321LS11IB2K2/16

    Amazon: AUD$139.34 +Shipping
    NewEgg: AUD$131.66 + $AUD19.86 Shipping (AUD$151.51 Total)
    Local: AUD$155.00 Pickup

NewEgg has something in it's favour with their Kingston HyperX RAM -> Free copy of Rainbow Six Siege (CD Key to onsell for $30+)

Seems, if you're going to get stuff from the states -> Really gotta be after specific, locally price-gouged stuff… That's not rebated.

    • Will Newegg honour the Rainbow Six promotion fi you are outside the US>?

    AU prices in title please.

    • +7

      Oooh picking on the boss!

      • +4

        I said please.

    • +1

Not enough space, and the policy is to have at least the original currency in title.

      • +1

For deals in other currencies, please include both the original currency and the $AU equivalent in the title via guidelines

But yes limited space is annoying.

  • It's definitely worth upgrading to 2133mhz+ ram if you want to squeeze the last bit of performance from your old gaming rig. See here:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-is-it-…

    • wait what? just putting in higher memory speeds increases frame rate or did they oc the chip so the bus matched the ram speed?

otherwise does this mean oc by multiplier gives way less benefit than oc by bclk?

      • I'm pretty sure they just swapped out faster RAM. If you look at the graph, they compare 1600mhz RAM and 2133mhz RAM on both a stock and overclocked 2500k. In both instances, the faster RAM provides ~10% increased performance when the CPU is the bottleneck in games.

As always, check your mobo for ram speed compatibility. I almost bought some 2400mhz before I confirmed that my z68 board only supports up to 2133mhz.

  • I was worried for a second considering I payed $130 earlier this week for 16GB of Kingston Fury RAM. Then I realised this was DDR3 and I felt a bit better. :P

    • Paid*

Whoops. As someone who usually pays a lot of attention to their spelling I'm not sure what happened there. :p

I want this because it's white (like the rest of my components) and its a bargain. Despite the fact that I have perfectly good ram and I CANT EVEN SEE THE COLOUR OF IT ANYWAY due to my cpu cooler. Stupid eh? But.. bargain!

    • +1

I want this because it's white

      racist

    • I want this because it's white

      You're only human.

    • +1

Yeah, that actually is pretty stupid.

  • Thanks…Grabbed two of the white ones $141.77US delivered.

    • you mean 4 sticks

      • Yeah 4 stick for 32gb

  • +3

Such small savings compared to local pricing… Not really a trigger to buy considering it won't noticeably make anyone's exiting 8gb PC faster.

  • Y NO DDR4??? <-insert meme here

  • so why would the fury be better than this?
    http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8…

Fury is c10 to, the gskill is c9

  • urgh

But what about credit transaction fees? If we calculate that in then the price is closer to $110. In which case this is pretty nearly 0 savings.

MSY sells the blue ones in the 2x 8gb kit for $117.

The blue ones at amazon total $108.65 AUD assuming there are no credit fees at all for the aud -> usd exchange.
If we calculate in a modest 2% that jumps then to $111.50.

A saving of a maximum of $7 and more realistic saving of about $3-$4 for a wait of around 2 weeks. Not really worth it unless you seriously don't value your time.

    • then use cash tho

  • I just checked the price again, 16GB CL10 Black is now $61.99 + postage — around AUD$92 delivered.

  • 16GB CL14 2133MHz Black has just dropped to USD$64.99 + $5.26 postage = ~AUD $94 delivered.
