  • Anyone used the Solar Lights before? Not wanting to light up the MCG, just break the darkness and see the path.

    • I'm also curious.

      • +2

I've got heaps of solar lights.

Don't expect much light out of the $2 ones with the solar panel on top, but if they line a path you're not going to be walking into the garden bed, and you'll spot the present the dog left you in the middle of the path.

They'll likely start failing in 3-6 months, but 90% of the time it's just the battery. Get a handful of extra ones so you have matching replacements just in case.

The ones with the solar panel separate give you a bit more light, but it's nothing like proper 12v garden lights.

        • Are the batteries replaceable? Expensive?

        • +2

          @sween64:
It's been standard rechargeable AA NiMH in all of mine, BUT sometimes they're soldered in, so maybe see if you can unscrew the cap before buying.

I swap the cheapo batteries for Eneloops even before I put them in the garden. It's less fun when they've have six months of rain, dirt, and spiders covering them.

Started putting Eneloops in about three years ago, none of those have failed.

        • You are lucky to have 3-6 months usage life. I bought a pack for $10 before Christmas, half failed in the first week including 1 in first night. Well, you get what you pay for, made in China sh!t.

        • @ITveteran:
A lot of people complain about them, but I've done ok.

That said, they don't put out a lot of light at the best of times, and in the winter months if they aren't in direct sunlight they don't charge up well enough to be useful.

So I'm switching sections to 12v - I happen to have an external powerpoint that's not currently used.

The other day I bought an external kit - a weatherproof box, a 4 point powerboard and a plug-in timer - for $19.95.

It's not online, but at my local Masters there was a pile of them. It's basically this but with a powerboard and timer inside:

Been looking for blinds for a while. Pitty the windows i have are not standard size :(

    • Same, I bought some crappy 210cm Masters roman blinds in their last sale but my windows are 230cm tall which appear to be non-standard. Also, the mechanism for my roman rarely works and is a complete PIA to open/close them.

    • You need to build a new house then :)

Hi easternculture, some of the blinds available can be cut down to size. Please check in store with one of our associates and they can advise you which blinds might be best suited to your windows.

  • I'm thinking of getting 3kw of solar lights as i only have a moderate electricity bill
    Or should i get 5kw?
    Thanks.

    • +2

The battery in the lights is usually 800mAh 1.2v - they probably last about 4h after turn on.. say 0.25w? - 1.5w per 6-pack. 3kW would be 2000 6-packs for $5000.

18000 lights should be plenty for most backyards. I wouldn't worry about going up to 5kW from the get-go, you can always add more later.

I'd suggest calling ahead to verify stock levels.

      • Nicely said haha

  • Any idea when this ends?

Hi dynamike, this offer is in our catalogue that runs until Wednesday 9 March

  • Bought few garden lights only to be called few hours later there was no stock and need to come to store for refund. :-(

    • Wtf? go into store to get a refund? Lol surely joking???????

      • nope, i paid via gift cards and was told that cannot be refunded and need to visit store.

  • Does anyone know if a 2.95m x 2.0m awning means it is 2.95m wide and extends 2.0m? Or vice versa?

    • I purchased some 210x180 external blinds and they ended up begin 180x210. Fortunately the store was able to fix it up for me and I now have 210x210 There was still heaps of stock (Hawthorn East in Vic)

Great deal! Went there this evening and purchased a couple of internal roller blinds. I was thinking I would see some other Oz Bargainers there but it was dead. I think the whole store had around 3 customers. Felt very eerie walking around with no other people around.

  • Can anyone think of a reason why the zumo brand would be excluded from this sale?
