FYI this is one of those phones with a combined SD / SIM2 card slot, meaning you can't use dual SIM + SD at once.

Specs looks very nice though for a mid-ranger, although the price is still a tad high. Also no doubt the bootloader will be locked. Why, Xiaomi? Give us power-users some freedom :(

Anyway, just read that Lenovo is also going to release a phone with very similar specifications

xiaomi has no say whether or not the bootloader is unlocked if you had any idea what you were talking about

      • +1

that's just what it says on GSM arena review. The phone's bootloader is locked initially but you can unlock it, but only through a Chinese-only application and also requiring specific status on the MI forum.

what exactly do YOU specifically gain from having a rooted phone that you cannot do without?

        • I leave mine locked … that way you get the OTA updates …. once rooted it doesn't get OTA updates.

have samsung S2 and Xioami Redmi note 2 …… they get updates.

        • @altomic: Though some of the features on there are slightly redundant or doable (with certain limitations or has a similar effect) nowadays.

Disabling system apps in my opinion does stop it from running and it's doable without root (though you still have the app taking up storage space). Doze feature in Marshmallow is similar to what Greenify does (though Greenify does far more, especially with Xposed module).

That said, I do agree without a single hesitation that having root access does open up a lot more rooms for tweaking. Some of which I do miss sincerely.

Actually if you do need use dual SIM and SD at once, you can DIY one SIM and the TF card together. Just need to heat the sim card and take the slug out, then adhere it with the SD card.

      • Awesome!

      • Whoa what?!?! What's TF card? How does this work?

Just look at the picture. The TF card is the micro SD card. Years ago it is called TF card.
But be careful this will largely consume your battery usage.

You can DIY in any Dual-sim/Micro SD phones. i.e. some of the Huawei's models.

decent phone for the average user, good battery. and the phone seems snappy.

I personally would pay double for the LG G4

  • What's the difference between a Redmi and a Hongmi?

    • +2

Same thing. 'Hong' is pinyin mandarin for 'red', so brand-wise basically synonyms.

    • this is the same ,dear

  • This is exactly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

    • +2

the redmi note 3 has a 5.5 inch screen, this phone has a 5 inch screen

how the f are they exactly the same?

      • You're right, apologies. This is the one just released, no?

      • Plus looks like this isn't FHD screen

    • +2

XiaoMi Hong Mi 3 = XiaoMi Red Mi 3
XiaoMi Hong Mi Note 3 = XiaoMi Red Mi Note 3

      Hong means red.

    • note 3 is full HD 1080p this is just HD display.

  • +2

      You can try international rom.
I did it on my hong mi note 2, if i remember correctly it has google play pre installed.

      • before send to customer hands, the phone will pre-install google play store .Do not worry

    • +1

Looking through the forums there isnt actually an official global ROM developed for this phone. If anyone knows any different please let me know where it is!

  • Pretty sure red mi note 3 is 5.5" & 1080p screen

thanks for not paying any attention to what is for sale in this post

  • -1

The unit only cost ¥699. At that price you may have trouble buying, but if you increase you budget to ¥799 then there are plenty stock in shops or online. Counting the exchange rate as 4.7 today it only gives $170, plus how much you willing to pay for shipping. This is a OK price, but not a great price.

    • cool mate, wheres an online store selling them to australians for 699 yuan? oh yeah, theres none

you have to fly to china and buy from a xiaomi store.

      cool story

      • even if you fly to china, you still won't get one for 699 yuan. LoL
they all sold out the second got released.
you are most likely get one in China if you fork out another 100 yuan

  • For those interested in modifying their Xiaomi mobiles I suggest this link.I used this forum to upgrade a Redmi 2 pro from miui 6 to 7 even with vendor modified rom .
    http://en.miui.com/forum-90-1.html
takes a bit of reading but worth the effort.
