Awesome deal. Pity that most of the laptops Harvey Norman sell aren't good value.
In any case though, you get added value of around $250!

    • The 250 bucks value is still not enough for a Harvey Norman laptop. But they do last i suppose, in my case. I waited for my $3000 computer (standard price back then) from 2003 to stop working. It hasnt, so i had to buy a new computer 2 weeks back.

  • I'm assuming this would fall under the free download for Office 2010 when purchasing Office 2007 would it?

    • it should. The only criteria for the free Office 2010 was for you to register the product during the current promotion period. And i would assume that the product is not pre-registered.

Could be a good deal but they will no doubt be recovering the cost in the margins on the laptops. I suspect it would be better to separately find a good deal on a laptop and external HDD, and then buy MS Office student license for $75 from itsnotcheating.com.au? $250 value is the maximum which no one really pays anyway.

well remember harvey norman wont be beaten on price…so let them price match or at least get them down as far as you can…in most cases if they cant match they can throw in free or very very cheap extended warranty.

    • Not sure how they work with price matching with shops like MSY, but for big franchises they normally price beat it.

      • you dont need them to price match msy - officeworks/dse is enough for this to be a decent deal.

I had them flatly refuse to beat the Good Guys catalogue on a Dyson vacuum cleaner… they wouldn't even match it. Mind you that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I rarely bother to even check HN anymore when I am shopping around for a big purchase. Too many examples of them refusing to match prices or even attempt to come close. I think they just want the business of people who don't shop around and don't know any better.

          • @sparkles: really that bad…maybe in this case just get it somewhere else…like onlinecomputer.com.au they are pretty good as well as jw.com.au and other computer shops.

          • @sparkles: They price beat a netbook for me, best price I could find. HN is not a strict franchise on roles and rules for employees (Hierarchy is very flat compared to others like JB or Myers), so every branch differs immensely.

They couldn't/wouldn't match JBs price on the laptop i bought in Jan, i got for $1400, HN would only go to $1500 at lowest, even with a written quote.

Harvey norman do not have an advertised price match policy. And it is in your favour NOT to price match anyway. They have a "price promise", this covers post purchase.

So you buy your 1699 laptop, then a couple of days later you come in with your price (has to be advertised not a written quote) and they will refund you %110 of the difference. if JB advertised the same product for 1400 harvies would have to give you $299 + $29.90

In the off chance they refuse, just call head office, they will make sure the store gives you the refund.

          http://www.harveynorman.com.au/page/1255511667120/best-price…

Which basically amounts to: buy it from us today at a higher price, and we'll consider giving you the difference back later — or maybe some other inflated item.

@pais: "Here's a mouse mat. Normal price is $100. You can have it free!" ;-)

I like how they have a clause for when the salesperson doesn't uphold the guarantee!:

"The provision of the lower price or the inclusion of bonus product or service to a value which betters the lower price by the Relevant Franchisee will be the sole and exclusive compensation payable to you if you show the Relevant Franchisee did not meet our Best Price Guarantee."

I'm happy shopping elsewhere without the dodgy salespeople…

I think this deal is just a clearance laptop sale.

    Did they change the deal?

Buy any laptop/desktop over $499 and get Microsoft Office Home & Student for $1 WITHOUT 1TB External Hard Drive.

    • I see that too. Almost tempted to neg this deal considering you can get a computer much cheaper elsewhere. Bundle that with MS Office and it can still be cheaper than HN.

    • The deal posted by the OP was emailed to subscribers to HN Photo Centre members.

I've got the same email too.

So no, they haven't changed the deal.

  • I've never found HN to be anywhere near competitive on anything, and their range is awful too. I don't bother even browsing at HN any more when there's specialty stores, GG and JB with better prices, better range and better service. That's just my experience.

    • I find HN to have very good price matching policies and they are willing to negotiate on prices. I have purchased many items from them in the past.

  • If only the stocked macbooks!

  • I bought a netbook at harvey's cheaper and with extended warranty cheaper than was quoted on many online sites.

  • OK Guys - for your review/comment PLEASE…

I've bought an Acer Aspire AS5740G-332G50MN Laptop for $899 + $50 for 2 years extra warrenty (total 3 years)
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256967567570/acer-as…

$1 more for 1TB HDD and MS Office 2007 (eligible for free 2010 upgrade)
Got a bonus 2GB DDR3 ram upgrade free
Big negative is the brand name and no dedicated graphics (could have spent $100 extra for a 512MB GPU version)

Overall config is pretty good, i3 2.13 Ghz, 4GB DDR3, 500GBHDD, Win 7 Premium etc
Cheapest in static ice is $794 (with 2GB DDR3, not 4GB)

    Is this a good deal?

I was almost buying the HP DV3 from MLN ($629 incl shipping), but changed my mind at the last minute
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=826

Positive is the brand and cheap
Negative is WIn Vista (will cost me $50 to get a Win 7), $79 for Office, Core2Duo, 4GB DDR2, 320 GB HDD etc

    Please help - I couldn't sleep last night :(
Am I a winner or looser for this HN deal

    • You've bought it. Don't look back. Be happy and enjoy it. Sleep well! ;-)
For next time, it is better to research before a purchase rather than after.

    • With 3 years of warranty you shouldn't have a problem.

  • The Prick at Garden City insisted that I needed a VIP Photo Centre card to get the offer. Simply the worst store ever.

  • anyone managed to get this just before the 31st of March? I tried and they said they are going to look into it as they believe it inspired before the 31st of March.
