Was just looking through Bing-Lee's site and found this Panasonic blu-ray recorder, with twin HD tuners and a 500gb hard drive. Model number is DMR-BW850. This deal is available until 14 March 2010

Panasonic website has this rrp for $1,649. JB currently has the 500gb model in its catalog for $1,391.

I think all you have to do is click on the link and download the voucher and take it into a Bing-Lee store to get this item for $1,199.

It's my first post - so be nice :)

  • overpriced. I'd like to buy a PRV + a decent BR player at a cheaper price.

Just get a PS3 with play tv bundle! 560$ at myer… blue ray, pvr, games console, wifi, media centre… what more could you want. 1200$ for this panasonic system is a joke

      • Slightly different kit than a ps3, i am only comparing common features between the 2 yes they both can do more

The ps3 is a single tuner and can play blu ray = record 1 channel and watch blu ray

the panasonic is a twin and it can burn blu ray = record 2 channels at once + burn the recorded tv to blu ray

      • I happen to have that (PS3 and PlayTV). Problem is that PlayTV is freetv accredited (or whatever it is) and you can't transport your tv recordings. Also, the PS3 doesn't burn to disc, blue-ray or DVD, so really, being able to burn HD broadcasts to a disc with enough capacity is actually useful.

PlayTV also doesn't let you record two digital channels at once, let alone watch another.

In any case, I think the price for the system is cheap compared to the competitors for the same system. Whether or not it suits your particular needs is a different question.

        • Correction ps3 u can watch another channel while tAping! And it has live tv buffer so it can be taping a program and on another channel be recording on buffer.

There are ways to export recording off the ps3 as well.

U are rite abt depending on ur needs. I've never really had the need to record and burn to DVD. Not if I wana give it to a friend to watch but he can get his own

  • I've been eying these recorders for a while. I have an analog Panasonic PVR.

I assume the BluRay recorder also records on DVDs? I'm not keen on BluRay just yet, either to play or to record, so I would stick to the DVD recorder models for the moment, the lowest twin tuner model I believe can be had for $900.

I haven't voted either way, these are just musings from me.

  • awesome dual tuner, wonder, can you burn straight to Blue ray? i've seen some that only burn to the HDD, then you need to burn to blue ray after the recording has completed… bit redundant…

does divx but wonder about other formats such as H.264 etc.

YOU MISSED THE MOST IMPORTANT PART!!!!
the $200 off is after you negotiate the best price, EG negotiate for 999, then get 200 off that!

    man would be pretty awesome.

shame they don't have them in Vic…
