Redmi Notes are the new eneloops…

I guess I'll own one soon enough, not a bad deal, mixed reviews about coolicool though.

    • They take far longer than expected to ship things… don't use their express shipping, as it takes about 2-3 weeks regardless. Otherwise, the goods do come through.

    • not sure why but I have one on the way considering I already have a Samsung S5 …. guess I like tinkering and will be fun setting up a new phone for my 8 year old. yes these phones will be like the eneloops ….. buy them for the relatives, but considering the Harvey normal deal at Christmas that got the Samsung s5 down to $322, the samsung s6 is down to $622 now and with new models from Samsung coming out prices will probably drop more …. and both have Australian warranty and cover ALL our 4 G bands …… yeah the redmi note 2 is just a sub $200 for my kid, and with express postage it's just on $200 if you don't want to wait 3-4 weeks. I doubt we will ever see xiomi do a version of software that opens up the other 4G bands even if their chipset supports it ….. these phones are for the Chinese market and they don't use those bands, and the Australian market is too small, but I have one on the way ( yes have bought one) and will teach my 8 year old about firmware, bloatware , and reflashing phones.

but for $122 more you can get an Australian supplied Samsung s5 …. that might seem extravagant but he already has an iPad as do most of his friends.

I think ozbargain has done my head in …. now I'm chasing $5 savings on $180 phones that do less then my current phone, am I really that time rich? time to see my therapist …. hope I can pay them with eneloops sandisk ultra memory cards and the other phones that are in the draw :-(

  • Differences between this and the 3gb version?

    • -2

3gb version comes with 32gb rom as well. Thats literally the only difference

    • CPU and GPU are both clocked higher. 2GB ram vs 3GB ram. 16GB storage vs 32GB storage.

  • +2

Title is wrong. This is the 16GB + 2GB RAM version. There is no 32GB + 2GB RAM model

    • +1

      Fixed it :)

      • Your flag is wrong.

  • +2

16GB is storage not ROM (Read-only Memory).

  • Good price but apprehensive about coolicool. Any review of them?

    • My experience. Ordered a Redmi Note 2. Payed abit extra for expedited shipping. Arrived in about a week. Phone came installed with custom rom with alot of bloatware/malware. Flashed to MIUI7 fixed all that. I imagine they will be installing custom roms on these aswell so i advise to flash to MIUI7 stable straight away.

  • been using LG G2 for more than a year now. 32GB if no microSD, & 3GB is the minimum to ensure good performance in longer term

    • same here. 16GB LG G2, would not recommend 16GB model.

  • +1

considering lack of expansion slot this model (32Gb / 3G RAM) looks more attractive https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/229379

  • Phone noob here, heard good things about this phone so pretty keen to upgrade my S3!

Just wondering, I can just put my sim into this and its ready to use straight out the box in Australia?

And since its android, would I able to transfer all my contacts that I backed up on SamsungKies on my desktop straight into it? Or I assume thats samsung only?? Missed out the HN S5 deal so figured this might be the next best thing?

    Thanks!

    • +1

Yes,it's android and you willbe able to import your contacts via file or via gmail account. That is not an issue. Lot of these chinese phones have crapware on their ROM (operating system). so you will have to manually flash that before you can start using it.

Read comments above for a better 32Gb(3gb ram) version

      • Thanks for the reply.

Can you please clarify by what you mean when they have lots of crapware and requiring a manual flash?

And I did see the 32/3 version but really Im not a heavy phone user at all so dont think Ill need the 3G ram let alone the 32gb storage.

        • +2

The android operating system you will get is going to be full of spyware and bloatwares. They are unnecessary application that will keep bringing ads and asking you to download certain apps and also browser opening random pages.

To be able to get rid of all this crap, you need to flash the original software provided by Xiaomi. They are called MIUI (UI-User Interface)

          Please see tutorial below:

I hope it answers you question

For contacts, you're better off backing up to Google (sync) - should work on any modern device that has a Google store. Or using a third-party backup app that's not manufacturer-specific, e.g. Titanium Backup (requires root, there's other alternatives).

As for using it… I'd recommend re-flashing the firmware back to stock (clean Xiaomi MIUI image) first. A lot of these resellers add malware.

If u have signed in with a Google account on your s3 then all your contacts should already be synced. They should be restored when u sign in any android phone with the same g account. Im not sure these xiaomi phones come with Google service inbuilt, if they don't you can't restore your contact list with Google account.

      • I am sure Samsung S3 had export option in Contacts. It generated a CSV file. Which can be imported again

seems places besides HN have the s5 for $397 ……and they HN will restock…… I think the s5 being 2 years old now will be below $400 quite often as the 1080p phone offering, and we are seeing the s6 for $622 now regularly.

also android 6 will will send quite a few models to the end of life / on longer supported path and people will upgrade if they want android 6. I guess that's why phones like a Telstra buzz ( android 5) , are now an entry phone $63 and $5 to unlock on eBay ….. that's my 8 year old current phone.

the choice as people upgrade is do I want a HD phone and 4-1/4" for $63 and get it at the supermarket or a FHD phone and 5-1/2" for $200 and import or -$400 and buy at office works depending on if I want to import the $200 phone or buy local the $400 phone and when I need it. Price drops are closing the gap between importing or buying local, just like ssd price drops.

    This, vs the Redmi 2?

    • -1
      • Sorry, I meant the Redmi NOTE 2

        Here's the comparison: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=7769&idPhone1…

Basically, there is no difference, except that the Redmi NOTE 2 is less than $200. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/229116

        Or am i missing something?

          • mental body, finger print scanner, bigger battery
          • micro sd card slot, + $60 cost
        • @lovbargain:

Ah, thanks. The Redmi Note 2 also has micro sd card slot

I think bottom line: most users will be happy to save the $60, and go with the Redmi Note 2. Seems to be the same display, processor, ram, camera.

(I don't really care about a fingerprint scanner)

(Downvote from me, simply because that Redmi note 2 deal is more better!)

        • @inose:
I choose note 2 as I prefer m-sd card slot than fingerprint scanner. For some others other features $60 may be well worth.

        • +1

i saved the $60 and went with the note 2 ……. we are seeing more 1080p phones for under $380 eg Samsung s5 and they have all of our 4G bands these Chinese phones don't support our low freq bands eg 700 MHz

  • its always 169 free shipping, free screen protector and case at vickmall

    http://www.vickmall.com/original-xiaomi-redmi-note-3-2gb-16g…

    • Man it is 10cents more.

      • so this isn't a "bargain" when its normal price in heaps of online stores ALL the time then is it?

  • I went with the note 2 deal …. $190 Inc express postage …….see if it arrives next week

    • was this the one from dealsmachine or eglobal?

  • Why is there a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (right) next to the Redmi Note 3 (left)? They are different companies… Samsung vs. some new CHinese one.

    • you need your eyes tested, all the photos on that page in the description and header are redmi note 3

      • Ah oops… I mean the image next to that image.

Edit: My eyes are fine, thanks for the concern.

        • -1

obviously not. every single image on that link is redmi note. The ozbargain site scraping picked up an image comparing the size of a redmi note to a samsung. hardly deserves a negative vote.

        • @Makoto:

That's not the reason for the neg. (You can search for my reason above.)

I'm referring to the image on the right pane, please get YOUR eyes checked :)

        • @inose: your downvote was "redmi note 2 is more better" which isn't valid at all.

I can go in every thread and post another product saying "x is better" and downvote but that's not valid

        • @Makoto:

your downvote was "redmi note 2 is more better"

THat is correct, rather than your previous explanation of the 'wrong image'.

Are you trying to argue about the image, or some other point, matoko san?

Also, why are you taking this so personally?? Relax mate, no need to be a Xiaomi warrior lol. I've brought this up with you in a different post - you seem to be in <3 with this company for some reason. They're just a company, they aren't doing you any favours, don't be a tool.

    • all smart phones look the same to me now. except for the os ….. lots of glass on the front, plastic or metal on the back …… unlike the old days where it was flip phone, slide phone, unfold phone ……. they all try to give you the biggest screen in the smallest size case and as thin as possible ….. doesn't leave much to differentiate the design from one vs the other. maybe when Alessi Porsche Ferrari or bmw come out with a phone for their life style shops it will look different than every other smart phone.
