The booking fee is $2.50, so only $2.50 cheaper than hailing a cab.
Not quite comparable, if you booked a cab with something else there's a $2/$3 fee. So you are saving $5 since you'd be paying the booking either way.
I prefer the experience of booking through this than waiting on a street corner or calling and hoping a taxi will show. Also, good to have a record of which driver is driving you, and good that the drivers know that you know this too.
Not sure why I was negged as what I say is true! Personally I don't think there is any contest with UberX, which is cheaper, more reliable and nicer cars/drivers. Last time I used GoCatch because I had a voucher. Waited 15 minutes for the first driver who didn't show. Second driver said the 'app had crashed' and guesstimated my fare at 50% more than I usually pay. Complained and was promised a replacement voucher which never eventuated. GoCatch is an app attached to your regular scammy taxi drivers. Uber is different.
Uber is awesome, except when their surge pricing takes effect. Was 3.9x on NYE in Melbourne. I ended up catching a taxi (didn't want to) for $75 as Uber would have cost me around $200.

It's either A. Jack up the prices temporarily to make sure there's one available for you (giving you the option of a notification when they drop) or B. Not having one available. Seems clear which is better, option B lumps you in the same scenario as prospective taxi customers

God, I hope gocatch dies. Many memories of standing there and watching as 50 drivers all rejected my ride request. UBER CRUSH DEM!!
I forgot to update my credit card (lost) details and the app blocked me from using this service. Had to email them everything, driver's license, scan of new credit card, bank statement, utility to get the account reinstated. Customer for over a year and a half, stopped using it that day since.
