6TB WD Red NAS Hard Drive $344 w/ Free Shipping from Newegg

20

Good price for a quality 6TB drive including shipping.

Cheapest on staticice is $367 - and then you have to pay shipping from QLD.

Combine this with 2% cashback from newegg @ Topcashback and a $10 USD referral credit (multiple accounts per household allowed) for further savings.

EDIT: Aaand it's gone (price changed back).. well done to people who took advantage of it. Don't think I'll bother posting any more hard drive deals though.

MOD: Please do not post referral links from a merchant different from the deal.

  • $23 between us and Aus supply. Depends on warranty return of you can take ba k to store or have to send away

If you buy locally, then its the retailers responsibility to send it for warranty via the distributor.

If you buy it from Overseas, then its your responsibility to send it for warranty to china or Singapore which would set you back ~ $50 + according to Australia post rates.

So probably better to buy it locally for a $23 difference.

Its currently $347 Delivered @ Amazon. Better to buy from amazon as they will refund return postage if drive goes faulty

      • Is that true? Last time I had a drive WD wanted me to ship it overseas.. I bought it locally, but it failed after a year or so.

DOA I would agree.. but unlikely it will be DOA. Amazon does look competitive though.. perhaps you should post a deal?

And it's only $23 if you live in Brisbane.

Anyway.. use it or don't.. I used it and am happy.

        • It's part of the ACL, you can elect to return faulty products back to the manufacturer but the best practice is to return the product back to the original place of purchase where they have to either refund, repair or exchange the product for you.

Sounds like you may have run into a dodgy retailer that dodged having to send the drive overseas to get repaired/replaced.

Under consumer law, the retailer has to send it in for warranty on your behalf. They always try and pass this on to you.

Ive had gigabyte Motherboards, GFX cards, HDDs and PSUs fail. Sent them back to the computer shop, and ~ 2- 4 weeks they call me back to pickup the repaired or replaced parts

        • @easternculture:

Well consumer law only covers a certain period. I bought it in Tasmania on holiday, so that did change things a bit (couldn't return it to store).

If you buy from Brisbane, this would be an issue also if you are interstate. Local NSW stock more like $377 - and you still have to go get it.

I think there was no local office for WD back then (not sure now). Seagate had one.. but wouldn't touch seagate anyway.

I'd still go newegg.. ~$320 shipped after cashback is worth it.

        • @gringo:

They cover 2 years for most electronics and Full warranty for Parts that have 2+ years warranty.

      • I would've expected that warranty would be handled by WD and they will ask you to send it to a local office and they will send it OS. This is my experience with Seagate… haven't had any trouble with WDs yet. Best to check with WD or Amazon.

        • Seagate's warranty is contracted to FEDEX office in Sydney. SO you send it locally if you cant be bothered sending it back to the PC shop and have $13 postage cost to spare

WD has to be sent to China or Singapore depending on Model

        • @easternculture:
not very competative eh… lucky I haven't had any trouble with them thus far.

        • @easternculture: My last Seagate HDD returns have been to singapore there was no australia location to send to.

      • Where do you guys get the $23 difference to buy it locally? With shipping it's quite a bit more, and it's not that Megabuy lets you pick it up for free.

        • Megabuy has a storefront for pick ups and purchases

        • +1

@asa79: I know, but did anyone bother to check the pick-up pricing?

          It's $395.92!!!

  • megabuy has $16 postage to where I am at - so that is $39 dif..

WD warranty you have to send away anyway AFAIK

To whoever did the report, you know you don't have to use topcashback if you don't want to (which would save ~$21 AUD) - it's still a deal.

  • Previously bought these babies for about ~$310 each during the Amazon/Amex promotion back in October. I wish that I had purchased 2 more :(

  • I really wanna get a couple of these as a RAID NAS setup, keep my media safe, as an upgrade from a My Cloud, but between that and a NAS, it's atleast $850…. makes me cringe, wish these drives came down a bit. Have read that HD prices won't change much at all, and if anything with the dollar they'll go up.

  • These 6TB HDD are fast, around 214MB/s transfer rate (max) and reliable too. Still can't afford that though!

  • I can't believe how expensive these have gotten, I'm glad all six of mine still run fine. Doubt I'd ever need the warranty on those.

I did buy WD drive on Amazon a few years back and was able to claim warranty here in Australia, usually to goes to Malaysia free of charge, WD pays for Fedex or UPS postage….
