I stumbled across this deal in a Vodafone store today. I can’t see any information about it on the Vodafone website.

The Pocket WiFi® 4G R216 is Vodafone’s current 4G modem normally selling for $79. To get this modem / Wi-Fi device for $39.50 is certainly a great deal. The product specifications can be obtained from the link in this post.

I do not know if the deal is national or whether it is being offered at all stores. I purchased from a Newcastle-based Vodafone-owned store. You may have to ask for the product to be scanned at the register if the staff member is not aware of the discount offer.

I have a receipt to prove the purchase at this price. The store did have a printed sheet in the front window which confirms that the deal is valid (which I duly forgot to take a picture of). I couldn’t find an expiry date in the small print.

  • $24 for better Telstra deal: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/telstra-prepaid-4g-pocket-wi-…

1500mah battery on Voda vs 2300mah on Telstra.

Not sure if there are any other spec differences that matter.

  • The MF90 only has 1 LTE band (1800) while the R216 has 4 (800/850/1800/2600) so it depends on the area you are using it.

It is also possible that the Voda one is unlocked while the Telstra one is definitely locked

  • This one also has 3g 900mhz so it is suitable for optus too

  • There's one in the Coles catalogue for $29 http://www.coles.com.au/catalogues-and-specials/view-all-ava… can't see a model number though.

    • I think that's the 3G version.

Thats good price. I have it and its unlocked.

What a pity they no longer put a screen on these things. It's a lot easier to tell what's going on than decyphering lights and going to web pages.

  • It'd be good to have Vodafone in the title, thanks.

  • Does Telstra's 4GX "require" 700MHz?

  • Not much good on Optus for 4G as there is no 700MHz and no 2300MHz.

I just bought one of these wifi modems from a Vodafone store in the Sydney CBD and I can confirm they are $39.50.

The strange thing is that there isn’t a prepaid 3GB starter kit included with the modem in the box like others.

The store rep had to get a $2 sim and activate a $30 recharge onto it to get the 3GB and said he needed to do it then and there. I wanted to keep it for later but he said it wasn’t possible.

I’d recommend this modem only to those who want to take advantage of a wifi modem that supports Vodafones re-farmed 850Mhz LTE band as well as its 1800Mhz band.

As stated by others it doesn’t support the 700 and 2300Mhz lte bands used by optus and telstra.
