  • Thanks I bought 30cm fry pan and 28cm wok but have to wait for pickup till 31/12/2015. :(

  • +1

    Half price in BigW?

    • +2

      Links or it didnt happen
edit: bah, just did it myself. BigW doesnt stock the CeramControl line. BigW stocks the "so tasty" line. It's "So Tasty" because of the teflon you're consuming.

      • +1

I bought the ceramic one from Myer Parramatta, thanks OP, even if it only lasts me 3 months - 6 months. Might be able to keep getting it replaced haha. Tons of stock, they didn't even have a special tag on them in store.

If you're after the So Tasty teflon ones, don't get them from Big W, get them from spotlight. Much cheaper.

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227903

12 months warranty, made in France.

    • Can I get a link? can't find 'Tefal CeramControl'

    • +1

Yeh, I got a couple (32cm for $27) from BigW, they seems to have a lot of stock still. Prob because the way they label it make people think it's not on sale.
      It's not ceramic thou

    • +1

Bigw doesn't sell that model when I last looked. Only the cheaper pans from tefel.

    • Tefal have two lines, the kind you find in Kmart/BigW that's made in China and basically a spray on teflon over a lightweight pan vs the kind you find in cook stores that's made in France (like the Ceram Control in this post).

      • +2

The Tefal So Tasty Pan from BigW are also make in France :)

        • +1

          they sell both
you need to check the label when buying

you will note the made in France ones are very easy to find "made in France"
made in china one is in fine print in hard to find spot

  • Any idea of it's available in store?

    • Just came back from Myer, it's also available in store.

  • Purchased the 28cm fry pan. Same price as 30cm but 30cm is a little too big.

  • Also they've got this 28cm stir fry ceramic pan for the same price

    • Found those kind of pans to be poor for eggs and many other foods because the base is too small. Not enough heat being evenly spread out, thus the food doesn't come out as tasty.

The one OP posted is great though.

      • Why is that ? it's the same ceram control line the OP posted

        • +2

Have a look at the picture, two very different products size and dimension wise. The one you posted is high like a wok with a small base, OP's is a large flat fry pan with a big base.

        • @IndecentExposure:
Thanks for the clarification I was about to buy one but not anymore

      • +1

I've found the same moving from house to house, if you don't have a decent wok burner you never get enough heat. Ended up with an electric wok and haven't looked back.

By any chance did anyone know if these are cool touch handles? Looked on the Tefal page but it doesn't say.

  • +5

Anyone know how well this stuff lasts?
Internet full of mixed reviews, like anything, on ceramic coatings.

    • +6

My one sticks after 3 months of daily use.

      • This same model?

      • +3

The non stick wore off about 8 months for us and we always cleaned it immediately after cooking and didn't use any abrasive materials to clean it either. It's definitely not very durable.

      • +2

the exact same experience here as well. Bought this ceramcontrol from Myer ($79 at the time). First three months or so was great, thought this is fantastic. Then slowly the non stick started not working. Have to use oil to avoid stickng. In addition any food that caramelises sticks badly and leaves stains. Go to website and they say you can bring back the non stick by heating up and then rubbing oil. Didn't work. Was good while it lasted.

        • +3

I'd take it back for a refund. Based on RRP this should be a top notch product that lasts a long time, certainly more than 3 months.

          ACL will back you up.

        • +1

          lol ACL again

  • +6

They are made in france and free of any toxins. I own one, they are good to cook with but quality is very poor. My first one it lost its non stick factor within 2 months and i barely used it. Got it replaced now after 6 months its not as non stick as it used to be. Very poor quality otherwise its amazing to cook with.

  • for 40 bucks if it lasts me a year i'll be happy with how much cooking we do!
Thx OP, bought 1 of everything!

  • +1

I have a stainless raco fry pan I bought for 30 bucks from kmart 5 years ago. Still looks brand new. Easy to clean by just using a scourer. Never understood the appeal of these teflon and other coatings.

    • If you use stainless steel you have to be on the ball, can't let your food sit and you definitely need to have some oil/sauce in there.

Teflon is good for most people since they can't concentrate on the one dish and keep stirring it around. I used a stainless steel one for 4 years, looked amazingly good and brand new. The GF moved in and used it for a week, it's in the bin now due to how black, burnt and uncleanable it is.

      • +7

Sorry I missed it, who is in the bin - gf or the pan?

      • Both, although the new one can't use stainless steel either, she's much better than the previous one :P

  • +1

Thanks OP, got two pans and a wok.

  • +3

Stainless are the worst I have used.
So far, my cheap cast iron is by far the best, but bloody heavy and requires more effort with maintaining its properties and because of this teflon is the most used.
Think I'll give these a run, thanks OP

    • +2

Try carbon steel for eggs/crepes - lighter and once built up, even better non-stick coating. De buyer make excellent carbon steel pans. Much cheaper in the long run than replacing teflon pans

      • Any recommend model for carbon steel fan or wok? and doesn't need maintenance like cast iron? Thank.

      • +1

        Fantastic, thanks.
Best wok I have ever used is my $5 carbon steel one from Aldi, used at least 3 nights a week. I dont know why I never thought of pans.

    • Stainless is fine, but you have to know how to season the pan before you start cooking

      • +1

And I do and I did and it was shite.
Argue about it all you like but the proof is chefs mostly dont use S/S pans.
Sauciers might, but thats something different again

        • +1

You didn't do it properly then.

Argue all you like, but I've cooked with stainless for many years now and never have anything stick.

All the chefs I know only use stainless or aluminium in their kitchens, with some using a small non-stick pan for eggs and cast iron for steaks etc. They all only buy stainless of their personal cooking too.

  • Thanks op

  • +1

Is this one of the thick-based heavy pans that tefal make (which I find cook more evenly and are generally better)?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • Hey guys, is this suitable for gas cook top? It's ceramic?

Recently bought a Stanley Rogers stone fry pan from HN, handle broke off within a month, made in China, so poor quality one screw only from handle. Had to refund.

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered one, click and collect. Pick up New Year's eve.

  • Thanks OP! Found something for around 20 bucks and qualified for free shipping

  • Thanks, just ordered one.

  • -4

Had a look thru Tefal Website. The CeramControl is same model as the BigW half price offer, paid $24.50 for the 30cm plus with BigW gift card bought at 10% discount. I have just bought one to replace one approx. 1-1/2 years old, no longer non-stick. Have to admit I used often it on gas stove and on High(not recommended). Happy with it to replace with same.

    • oh so we can just get replacement every 6 months due to stickiness?

    • Can you post a link for the Big W. I am struggling to find anything Tefal 30cm pan for $ 39

      • There's no specific mention of model. All Tefal cookware is at 50% off sale, valid till first week in Jan. You can log into BigW catalogue, it's on the front page.

    • I think they are different types as the So Tasty range is not suitable for induction.

      http://www.tefal.com/Cookware-%26-Kitchenware/Pots-%26-Pans/…

      • yes, I think ablecookie is not comparing apples with apples.
I can't find the same model as the big w he claims, The Myer one is ceramic coated

      • +1

You are correct, different model/coating. No idea which is better, "Intensium" or "Ceramic control". Seems regular prices are approx. the same, all little confusing - wonder whether is all Marketing jargons.

    • The bigw pan is a different model.

    • +5

They are not the same, the BigW are made of a variety of teflon non stick coating but the myer one is 100 percent ceramic non toxic pfe and pofa free much healthier. U dont want to cook on teflon loads of research that it causes cancer.

Just a warning though the non stick effect of ceramic doesnt last very long no more than 6 months

      • Can I get a link where it specifically says that they don't use PTFE? I can't find it.

        • +1

Pretty sure teflon is fine as long as you don't overheat the pan.

  • Got 2 thanks OP.

  • Anyone know if the price is the same for instore purchase? It will be great to use Myer's instore only giftcard to buy them.

    • Instore prices are the same. But the problem is they may be out of stock in your store already.

      • A few left at Castle Hill Myers.

  • Stocks at myer westfield. Grabbed 2

    • +13

Myer Westfield is kinda vague lol…

  • +5

Company name "Tefal" comes from Teflon+Aluminium.

So this is a bit confusing. Ceramic coatings seem to be a reaction to the hysteria over Teflon.
It is true that Teflon should not be used for very high-temperature frying, but your food becomes carcinogenic at those temperatures also, so it makes little difference.

Unless you want high-temp frying, I think quality Teflon (PTFE) cookware is superior. Less stick, easier to clean, longer lasting.
I use a stainless-steel pan to sear sometimes, but I suppose ceramic might be better.

While comparable Teflon pans are not currently on sale at Myer, they do have the lightweight "Specifics" pan. This has the advantage of faster heat control on gas, but less even on low heat, and no good for induction.

    http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/all-cookware/tefal-speci…
    ($29, good price)

    • How does the Specifics pan compare to the So Tasty line at BigW?

I think I'm reading too much into this… I just want to cook basic chicken breasts damnit!

      • They look the same to me. Either will do fine.

    • I think it's more confusing now that I check Tefal's Creamic Control page.

      http://www.tefal.com/Cookware-%26-Kitchenware/Pots-%26-Pans/…

It says there that the pans are PFOA free. But that's not PTFE that everyone is afraid of. PFOA is a chemical used in the process to make PTFE. Because PFOA is toxic, most are making PTFE without using PFOA. So does this mean Tefal's Ceramic Control coating is partially PTFE because I can't find anywhere that they specifically say there is no PTFE.

  • Mrs. Tronic was just mentioning new pans. Thanks OP!

  • +6

Hey guys spotlight currently has 50% off all tefal range. I picked up a 30cm stainless steal pan for 35 and a griddle pan for 29.95.

    • +1

Bought several yesterday from Spotlight. Been using Tefal for a while now and can thoroughly recommend them.

    • +1

Any difference between the So Tasty vs Specifics brand? I found heaps of positive reviews average 4/5 on Amazon, Bestbuy for Specifics but the others had little to no reviews.

      • I have some specifics at home they have lasted quite a while . I'm not to sure about the so tasty range the two pans i picked up where from the professional and thermo cast range. i just checked online they are 40% off and scanned 40% off however when i went in the sign was 50% off in turn they price changed.

  • Still plenty of stock in myer carindale. (QLD). If it's not on the shelf just ask as they said they have plenty more out back.

  • -1

    dishwasher safe?

edit: actually followed the link and looked myself. Care instruction: Dishwasher Safe. hurray!

    • I think they still will have reduced life if put in the dishwasher.
But non-stick pans are so easy to clean - what is the problem?

      • agreed very easy to clean. they say get a paper towel with a bit of oil to coat the pan to prolong the life. does anyone else do this?

      • +2

A plate is easy to clean, too. So is a fork. Yet they're obviously put in dishwashers all the time. If it's dishwasher safe, why not put it in the dishwasher? If that reduces its life, despite the manufacturer saying it's safe for dishwashers, I'll get a refund.

  • bought 1 each~ all ready for pickup at cardindale~

  • Thanks, great find :)

  • Picked up mine at Myer Eastgardens today, the lady at the counter commented this pan was very popular and she'd handed over 5 that day already. If the non-stick only lasts 6 months we'll just return/exchange ours. Plan is for it to not replace our everyday pan, just to be used for dishes that are harder to clean off our regular pan.

  • wok seems out of stock =(

  • Damn, my wok that I ordered on the 28th got cancelled :(

  • Ordered frypan on 28th, not available to pick up yet at Indooroopilly.

  • Can anyone tell me what the handle is made of? Website doesn't list it

    • +1

I received mine this morning. The handle is made of nylon.
The pan is quite light. Was surprised when I picked it up.

The "wok" isnt really a wok, because it has a flat base. (Woks should be round-based)

  • After a couple of weeks of use i'm really happy with this pan, better non-stick than Teflon IMHO. It's cleaned very carefully and time will tell on the durability of the non-stick. Thinking of going back and picking up the flat bottomed wok.
