Alpine Carplay Receiver ILX-007E $700, 30% off AutoBarn

160

ALPINE 7" CAPACITIVE TOUCH DISPLAY/RECEIVER ILX-007E

Normally $1000, even on eBay going for close to $900.
AutoBarn have 30% off until close of business today. Legit retail deal, not marked up just to discount.
Should be able to get price match at JB Hifi if you have vouchers to use or more convenient.

Awesome head unit

Works with iPhone only.
Doesn't have Bluetooth, connects to iPhone via Apple lightning cable for the Apple CarPlay interface which also charges the phone. No pairing required, connect any supported iPhone and it connects instantly with CarPlay ready to go.
Does not work with Android besides standard 3.5mm AUX cable.
Without an iPhone it's just a fancy FM/AM receiver.
Does not come with CD drive, but able to add a CD/DVD stacker to it.

AutoBarn Options and Install Costs
Hardware
* Reverse Camera $99
* Head unit Facia $59
* Antenna Adapter $10
* Steering Wheel Adapter $149
Labour
* Head unit install $150
* Reverse Camera install $150

So $1,317 fully installed with reverse camera. If you haggled you'd probably get a few dollars off. You could probably save $100 finding a different installer or spend a weekend doing it yourself. :)

Merry Christmas one and all. :)

      Dealbreaker

  • A lot of the new CarPlay devices use Lighting Cable instead of bluetooth because of the potential battery drain on the phone.

    Its the same as in my Cruze, to use Pandora I HAVE to use a cable and not bluetooth.

      I think it has more to do with the fact that CarPlay doesn't support connecting wirelessly yet.

      • Cool, thanks for this information. Looks like I won't be upgrading my headunit any time soon.

      • Plus the latency would be so much lower using a cable and greater bandwidth too.

      The thing is, I'd likely keep my next head unit for a few years, and CarPlay over Bluetooth is coming. Furthermore, I don't mind latency for music playback and the battery drain issue is not a big deal. In fact, my iPhone's battery lasts longer playing through Bluetooth speakers than internal speakers anyway. Regardless of whether the phone is being charged while I'm in the car for longer trips, sometimes I just don't want to plug it in, or can't because the cables are being used with other devices.
