Is it wise to purchase DSE gift cards? šŸ˜€

    • +3

yes if you know an item or more on sale that still have stock in DS and there is also a closest Woolie, snap and snap :)

    • +4

Well, in a few years you can hang it next to your framed "Quadrillion Zimbabwean Dollar" note. Makes for a good anekdote when you have visitors.

Can you buy dse gift cards with Woolworth gift cards?

    • +3

depends on who serves you at the check out :)

      • +5

Should be able to buy from self checkout. I bought a myers card using e gift card today

        • you can do that with eGift card payment but highly recommend proper 'activation' of your card or it would be invalid

        • @webtherapist: self checkout does properly activate at woolies. It even print out a separate activation receipt like it does over the couter . I have bought about 4 toys r us gift cards in addition to myers one today's in last couple of weeks all at self checkout using e gift cards

        • @lokesh7: that's good to know, thanks

        • I tried self checkout, but you would still need help from staff to load the value to gift card

        • +2

@AG1304x:yes Woolworth group cards are different. Self checkout works best for other cards with set value like myers, djs etc

  • Can this stack with scoopon woollies deal? And does dicksmith still sale psn cards in store? Thanks

    • +2

As many have mentioned in recent times, Woolies are coming down on the 'use eGiftcard to buy Giftcard' practice.

      My guess is it will:
      a) come up as "Wait for assistance" on self service, where you'll then be told you cant do it or
      b) roll the dice and go through a manned checkout and try and sweet talk the person with ("awww but I got the eGiftcard as a gift from my voluntary service at my local hospital and am now converting the credit into Physical cards for the nice old couple in my street").

      • +1

        But never lie.

  • It is a risk the one that you paid for may not be one of those 30 ( different retailes ? Different value ? Different pattern? ) gift cards.

And you have no way to be sure before you paid. (Except those 6 with the image in the catalog). You can only find out on the receipt AFTER you paid.

    • My guess is all gift cards will earn Woolworths Rewards dollars. There should also be paper tags with the offer at the rack.

I hope people realise that 10% bonus value equates to a roughly 9.1% discount.

    • -1

Can you further explain this calculation?

      • +5
        • Take a 10% discount as an example, you'd spend 90 dollars on something that's 100 dollars
The calculation goes something like (100-90)/100=10% or 1- (90/100)=10%

        • Now, for the 10% bonus value, you'd spend 100 dollars on something that's worth 110.
The calculation goes something like (110-100)/110=9.09% or 1- (100/110)=9.09%

        • +1

          10/11

    • -1

      it's actually 9.0909% ;)

      • +7

        Hence the "roughly" :)

      • Recurring.

  • So if I buy $100 Myer gift card and I will receive $10 Woolworths Rewards Dollars?

    • I don't think this deal is applicable to Myer gift card. Went to Woolies this arvo, only to selected cards, for department store is DJ only.

If you want Myer gift card, go to buy Big W gift card at 10% off the card value then puchase the Myer gift card. It works out $100 Myer card cost you $90.

      • Where do i get big w gift cards at 10 % off face value?

        • CashRewards have a special at the moment for BigW eGiftCards

        • At any Bug W store, until 24 Dec, when you spend $100 or more on a Big W gift card. It's on their current cateloge. This is for physical card not e giftcard.

        • @Meathead95:

Did anyone work out if you can buy the big w gift card with another big w gift card? Eg get one from entertainment book at 7.5% off

        • +1

@chrisishere: Hi, there is another thread talking about converting BigW egift card to physical Big W gift card, the answer is, it depends on the store (more on the supervisor/store manager) and the check out person, since the physical card doesn't have a preset value, you will need a staff member to help at the self check out or go through a cashier check out, there are few people have successfully converted to physical card here, but I haven't been able to do so. But I converted the egift card to Myer and the good guys cards. I was told at the Brisbane city store by the staff, that they are not allowed to convert the egift card to physical Wish/Big W gift card, but can convert to other branded gift cards. Good luck!

Likely to include Bunnings or Netflix?

    • Check on Wednesday.

    • Bunnings gift cards are only at Coles.

Is this not a duplicate deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/226256

    • Doesn't include the DSE deal.

Those 10% Bonus WRD Giftcards are usually 20%, Buy $50 and get $10… Not really worth Buy $50 and get $5 only

  • Can you use Dick Smith gift cards online?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • +3

will DSE gift cards be worth anything if DSE goes into administration?

    • +1

      Depends on the Administrator.

When Borders was in voluntary administration gift vouchers were honoured in full (at the start) so long as you paid at least 50% of the total in cash/credit. ie. Spend $100 pay $50 in cash/credit and the adminstrator would all you to use $50 on your gift card. People who waited too long to spend their gift cards pretty much lost it all.

What people do need to understand is that a gift card is not like putting money in the bank. You are actually become a creditor of the business involved. Woolworths/Coles group and iTunes vouchers are probably the safest to buy and bank but I would exercise caution when it comes to smaller players.

So in the case of Dick Smith going bust there is a possibility (a small window) where the voluntary administrator will honour the gift cards but there is no guarantee. If they refuse to do that you simply have to lodge a claim like any other creditor and wait in line to see how much they can recover.

IMHO Dick Smith will definitely be downsizing stores but they won't be closing down. I based that on the fact that I have seen new displays being installed in city stores (last Tuesday) and Dick Smith has still has been advertising a lot of television.

      • +1

I imagine DSE are more likely to downsize and will retain an online presence. They may also try to find a partner (maybe Woolies) where they can offer a Click & Collect service.

        • Yes that would help prevent staff from physically stashing sale items for themselves.

  • can I buy multiple DS gift card and purchase an iphone from them ?

    • +1

Yep. I don't think there's a limit to how many gift cards can be used in a single transaction. Maybe call your local store before just to make sure.

  • So what is this I have used the Egift card in past no hassles with checkout staff and easy as at self check out but doing these Egift cards gave 5% off not much but better than nothing.
So what's this 10% off then? same thing? Or go to Woolworths and they are 10% less?
I'm after something costing $98 from jb hifi so getting another 10% off would be cool.

  • And when does this deal end?

    • It's written in the OP twice.

  • +2

Thanks OP! I could definitely do with 10% extra Dick.

    • +1

11 inches for the price of 10.

      • I offer the missus 100% more dick, I think that is a pretty good deal.

  • Ok just noticed Woolworths just offer dollars on your everyday card when buying these cards but where do you get the 10%

    • The 10% extra value is only for DSE gift cards.

  • Or as someone said go to bigw and buy gift card with the 10% off then buy a jb hifi card with it is this possible do they have jb hifi cards in there?

    • Yes, both Big W and Woolies have JB cards (I've seen $30, $50 and $100) and you can buy them with Big W gift cards. I bought two $30 ones from Woolies today and didn't get any WW$, so it looks like they aren't included in this promo.

  • Are steam giftcards included?

    • If they're available my guess is yes!

  • So if you buy say bigw gift card get 10% off and then buy jb hifi gift card with it is this possibly and do bigw have jb hifi cards or just selected cards?

  • where can I buy these gift cards ? I did not find them in Woolworths today

    • Did you ask? Most Woolies stock some. The sale starts tomorrow.

  • I just bought two $30 JB cards and didn't get any WW$, so they aren't included. I still got 10% off via Big W cards, so I'm happy.

    • But i thought you could not buy gift cards with gift cards or is this with egift cards, just recently been getting egift cards to get gift cards but i believe them maybe clamping down on this?

      • The system doesn't stop you, so it's just up to the attendant to say no. I went to a young one who didn't care when I split the payment over 3 gift cards.

  • +1

I just bought a $100 jb gift card and it came up with 2x$10 member rewards so came to $80, thought this may have been due to existing credit on my account but did the same for the next 3 times, so got $400 worth for $320, then price matched the iPad mini 2 32gb from office works for $398 so payed $318 in the end, not sure if this is a scan error or some other promotion but I am pretty happy.

    • Damn. So the $100 JB cards are included, but not the $30. Maybe I should have tried a $50.

      • I don't know, I got $20 off the cost of the card straight away where as this deal I believe was 10% of the value back in $ww. Maybe if you paid in gift cards it might not apply.

        • Im not bothered about the dollars back on buying gift cards would rather want the money off on purchase of gift card if that makes sense.

    • What's this 2x $10 member reward?

    • I looking to get a jb hifi gift card for same amount would be great if same happened to me where was this out of interest?

      • It was at Oxenford on the GC, I scanned the card and then my everyday rewards card but the discount didn't apply until after I pressed the checkout/finish/whateverthebutton is.

  • I'm not sure. Nothing in my emails from them about a targeted offer that would account for this, would be interesting to see what happens if someone else tries.

  • +1

Just bought a new MBP 13" 256GB using discounted Dick Smith gift cards.

DSE matched the Good Guys 10% offer plus used the 9.09% gift cards plus going o/s next week (TRS tax refund) has got me a bargain.
