    • Spot on man!

    • Great suggestion TightBottom!

  • I had better get uploading!

  • +1

Seems targeted? or am i wrong

  • So if you already have more than 5GB on Onedrive, you should get this next year?

  • +1

Very good deal! Do we need to do anything apart from waiting till next year to get this deal? Nothing to sign up?

  • So… "Active OneDrive"… is this just Onedrive, or some special version of Onedrive?

    • +2

      Active = In use

If anyone still has their university email address you can get Office 365 for free. My university lets us keep our email addresses forever, so any graduates here should probably check if they have an active email address.

    • Which university is this? Perhaps it's worth enrolling in a cheap diploma for this? :)

      • Sydney

        • Do they offer online courses? Is that UTS?

      • +1

I don't think there is a cheap diploma anymore thanks to the high prices at TAFE now…

      • A Diploma where all fees are less than the cost of Office 365? That would be one cheap diploma.

      • You can cancel the course before the census date = free.

    • I wouldn't risk it. Just having the university email address isn't enough; you'll need to be actively enrolled in an eligible academic institution as well, as per Microsoft's terms and conditions http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/html/pbPage.…

If you participate in the Program, Microsoft reserves the right to contact you directly or through an appointed Microsoft vendor to verify that you are an Eligible Student. If you choose not to provide sufficient documentation to Microsoft or its appointed vendor that verifies that you are an Eligible Student, you agree to reimburse Microsoft for the difference between what you paid in connection with a discounted Program offer and the estimated full retail price of the same product(s). Microsoft will have sole discretion to determine the sufficiency of any documentation that you provide to verify you are an Eligible Student. By providing eligibility-related information to Microsoft’s appointed vendor, you agree that the vendor may share such information with Microsoft for Program-related purposes.
Microsoft, in its sole discretion, may accept other forms of validation to determine eligibility in lieu of the online academic verification process. Microsoft, in its sole discretion, may determine the criteria for eligibility under the Program and may change the eligibility criteria or deny eligibility at any time and for any reason.

    • That's true.

  • I will download some Ms Express stuff from their own website and then upload to my onedrine and see if that meets their criteria.

Just because someone is a good person and posts lots of good deals shouldn't mean they get a free pass with forum worthy posts like this.

    • Reminds me my deal for the free $1 donation from Seagate went straight to the forums (even though it reached front page in about 10 minutes) and would have been more useful as a deal.

Maybe next time I'll post it as an announcement

For what its worth, I'm glad it was posted here as a freebie. I rarely look at the forums, but look at the deals multiple times a day. Thanks EC.

  • What are people uploading to need Unlimited free space?

    • umm…home movies…yeah! Kids' concerts and stuffs

  • "For customers of our free service who have over 5GB of content and who are directly impacted by the storage change"

I use more than 5GB but how do I prove that I am directly impacted by the storage change? Since I had 15GB, plus 15GB for camera roll and 100GB for owning a Samsung phone, I had a total of 130GB and I used nowhere near the amount I had. So would I still qualify?

    • Probably. The change is setting the free maximum to 5GB, isn't it? Hence anyone who uses more than 5GB will be impacted.

      • But the free + camera roll bonus should exceed 5GB right?

        • Yeah. All know is I've got 230GB storage and have used 13GB.

          @sween64:

          Some how I've got 1.12TB

  • How risky is it to upload content to OneDrive to which you don't own the copyright?

    • +1

Some people were arrested for keeping child pornography on OneDrive. So they are monitoring your data. But if you plan to upload some music and videos only than you should be fine.

      • So they know about your copyrighted content but are just turning a blind eye to it?

As for child porn.. either the uploader was super dumb and named it child porn, or MS is viewing people's videos to discover it was child porn?

        • I think there are some Applications that look into your content for illegal stuff. Like Child porn is illegal but music or videos may or may not be illegal. So Copyright stuff can go through scan without problem.

        • They have an automated tagging system for photos. I imagine this could detect child pornography even if it wasn't 100% specific.

        • @sween64: I'm very impressed and would love to see their algoryhtm. I imagine a lot of false positives will get tagged.

        • They have a massive database of hashes and silently check the hashes of uploaded images against the database.

They aren't 'viewing videos' so much as having a computer perform a mathematical calculation. It's no more invasive, from a technological standpoint, than performing a virus scan on the file.

In terms of copyrighted material, it's - generally speaking - not a criminal infringement so much as a civil law infringement. They have neither the need nor the will to police that sort of content (unless asked via cease and desist/DMCA request/court order/etc).

    should be on forums

  • Doesn't Google give unlimited free storage .. for all your photos at full res?

  • High .. Full .. What's the difference?

    • +2

High resolution = max 16 megapixel. Full resolution = original resolution

  • So, basically, watch out for incoming MS-emails re O365/1y-free offer?

  • Not sure if posted on Ozbargain yet but for OneDrive users this is worth noting re keeping your storage after January:

Click below and your account will not be affected when the amount of free storage changes from 15 GB to 5 GB and the +15 GB camera roll bonus is discontinued.*

  • Sorry, it has been posted, just saw in on the list on the right :(

  • Only people who have over 5 GB of content in their OneDrive before November 2nd will receive the free Office 365.

  • I still have more than 500GB of OneDrive due to past purchases of Windows Surfaces, but I rarely use it, so in this case do I need to start using it to make it over 5GB used/loaded to get the Office 365? Thanks
    Edit: saw previous comment

  • Has anyone received an email yet?

  • I haven't. Anyone else?

  • +1

    very strange.
Messaged MS on fb: 1. do i qualify? 2 when will i get it. they tell me to chat with them.
1st person: you just need to wait for email. when will I receive it? I cant tell you. chat to accounts and billing [ i was then transferred]
2nd person: what is your product key? [Cant provide bc not at home]. you need to go back to point of purchase then. what has product key got to do with my original query?!?!?! end of chat [they ended it on me]…

  • I haven't either. Not sure who we contact regarding this?

  • I saw on the new post (which has now been removed) that you could get $25 visa card?

    • +1

I sent mine in and got confirmation of sending but if they accept it is another thing but may as well try :)

      • is it this one? http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/Office-365-Home/productID.286455400
I upgraded mine 1TB without seeing this option

        saw in the email

  • Got the free year of 365 :)

  • I am bit lost. I had an active one drive account until the 23rd of feb. It says that I am using 258GB of 30GB, but there is no option for me to continue. 365 & 1TB comes up at $89 per year. Is this correct, or is there a way I can get the 1TB without paying?
    Thanks in advance. ;-p

  • Damn. I got the email but no offer was included. Just a tough luck email

  • Just received my email offer today to upgrade to 1TB for a year, Free! Thanks to Telstra for the free weekend uploads.

  • Some people who have the right to get 1 year/1 computer (PC/MAC) subscription + 1TB Onedrive can try to access the following link:
    http://click.microsoftemails.com/?qs=3542182b1bd5749f336f652…

That's for them who have Onedrive so you have to use your linked Onedrive account. You will see if you are able to get the free year before finishing the order (credit card or Paypal is necessary). If you have Onedrive you probably got an email from Microsoft with a working link.
