I hate to sound like one of "those" people but no bike that costs $120 new is "good quality". They are made with the heaviest of pig iron and the most budget of components.
Gumtree is where its at for bicycles. Have bought a few quite well-specced road bicycles on Gumtree over the years and they have all been great after a bit of a clean and a lube.
Your talking about a kids bike firstly for a 4 year old. Secondly, reviews for this diamondback are generally good. Prices in the USA are about $170 so this makes a great deal
I had no idea how old your daughter was :) They will probably be fine for kids but for any serious use by an adult I'd be looking elsewhere.
Fair nough. I think for $120 odd can't see n e thing brttet
A 16" would normally be too big for a 4yo. Have you tried fitting it yet?
Its probably more adjustable than the cheaper bikes though. How else is it different?
Bought the kids Diamondback DB16 Superlite bike a year and a half back…..cost $138 then and no pig iron or budget components you mention. I have a decent bike myself and I think the kids Diamondback's are pretty good.
Super lightweight alloy
Easy to Ride, easy to pedal, easy to enjoy
Alloy frame, fork, rims, handlebars and front hub
Easy to use pedal brake, front hand brake
Adjustable alloy brake levers for small hands
BMX smooth tread tyres
Removable training wheels for extra balanceagree - my son has a diamond back and for the price the main difference against competition was the weight. Good bike for the price.
The pig iron comment must be from someone who has never looked at these bikes, and certainly not against competition.
While I appreciate your comments, the professional bike forums disagree with your comments. Some will blow off these people as knowing nothing, or expecting too much, but I found a thread that liked a particular cheapie, but the Diamond Back bikes were largely deemed low quality.
I recently got myself an updated bike on gumtree. It was a brand that was recognised on the bike forums as being worthwhile to buy (and I paid less than $120).
I own a repco bike and my son has the DB16. I've mucked around on the DB16. My son has mucked around on my new bike. We both agree that the DB16 is a pretty mediocre bike - and i'm no bike expert.
YMMV.
Sure, but you will see there are others here who agree that the bike fits purpose and is actually quite lightweight against the competition.
I was just pointing out that the person who said they were made of the 'heaviest of pig iron' had probably never been near one.
Diamond back bikes at bigw are great value and just as good quality as more expensive kids bikes.
Can be used with 10% off When You Spend $100 or More on a BIG W Gift Card @ BIG W (starts Thursday) I suppose.
When I was a kid I remember Diamondbacks were high end. Now they're sold in big w.
Yes that's right they were and I never had one!
I remember when good, cheap Diamondbacks were sold in Big-W - got a road-bike with Shimano STI .
I think they had some OK mountain bikes too, that could actually go off-road :)Better Diamondbacks still exist, just not sold in Oz.
they still are mid/high end at the top of their range….i.e they make GOOD bikes
http://www.jensonusa.com/Diamondback?s=hproblem is we only get the cheap & cheerful variety here in au…..its a shame
