Now we're torquing. Just don't get drilled by the mrs for spending that much…

      • +1

That'd also mean no more drilling the mrs for him too.

Bosch even chuck in a bag.

  • Nice deal, now time to do some research! ;)

    • You mean you're going to read some reviews online.

      • Reviews are only part of the process..

    • I'm pretty sure the OzB guidebook says to buy first then research later…

They have this kit once in a while (the extra items varies, usually just a bag but in this case a bag + torch). It's a great kit in my opinion for the price.

Also at Narre Warren in Vic.

Anyone know how that compares to this DeWalt kit (extra $30 and no torch):

…or this Ryobi kit for an extra $60?

I've got the Bosch Kit and I use the Ryobi kit at work.

For some reason, the battery life of the Bosch kit seems a lot less than that of Ryobi. I got a few hours of drilling rivets out with the Bosch kit and a full 8 hour work day of assembling furniture out of the Ryobi set.

Also the Ryobi set is better quality (note that Bosch kit isn't top product line), the driver chuck on the Ryobi is easier to use and mechanism is made of metal compared to the Bosch set. Driver also has 3 LEDs on the Ryobi, not the Bosch. The Ryobi batteries have a charge indicator and super easy battery mechanism, Bosch don't are a bit fiddley to change batteries.

In hindsight, i would have purchased a Ryobi kit over my current Bosch kit (same as one advertised w/o bag and torch)

      • Thanks ;)

Yeah I noticed the Ryobi batteries are 2.5ah compared to the 1.5ah of the Bosch.

      • The ruobi one plus range is simply huge. A vast array of different tools and accessories……
        Fans/lights/radio etc.

And the number of garden and shed tools wothbthe one+ is just an added bonus of you go down that collection.

Makes easy for later on, just but skins and maybe an extra battery……

        With replacement warranty

        • I agree, the Ryobi One Plus is a great range for DIY, but also camping, gardening etc. Ryobi's One Plus range seem better built than the Bosch Green (I'm all for liking Bosch, I have Bosch blue brushless with a bunch of 3ah and 4.5ah which i'd never give up, but Ryobi def wins at this price bracket!)

    • The dewalt doesn't come with hammer function.

There's also the Stanley Fatmax kit at Masters for $239 to add to your list of options: https://www.masters.com.au/product/101323141/stanley-fatmax-…

Use a Masters 10% off code "FRESH10" to bring it down to $215, then buy Woolworths Wish cards at 5% off using an entertainment book or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225207 to pay for it.

That's what I did that last week :)

The Fatmax offers a bit more torque on tap if you need it, 2x 2.0Ah batteries, slightly better build quality than the Bosch and a 3 year warranty.

if you are near south morang this is on clearance for $140.

    https://www.masters.com.au/product/101249770/bosch-green-dri…

    • $140 at Richlands, QLD as well. Great price imo.

    • and $94 at Chullora

    • You have the 2 piece kit there!

    • My Bad. Its the 2 piece kit without the torch.

      • The value of the torch is always dubious anyway. If any of these kits include a torch I ignore it when I work out if it's worth it. A $10 cheap Chinese LED will typically beat them in terms of convenience and capability.

  • good price

  • +1

Just be sure to review the specs.
I bought the 2 piece kit from bunnings when I was building a fence. The driver couldn't move the screw, I thought maybe it wasn't charged as it was new but it was still half full. It was into a hardwood post but pretty useless if it only can drive into pine…..

    • +1

I know it might sound stupid but did you pre-drill ? Most drivers will find it hard putting a screw into hardwood without either rounding off the head or snapping the screw completely. Even pine after its dried

  • Couple of related questions if you don't mind as I'm shopping for a solution -
    1. Has anyone had success/failure sourcing replacement batteries for a Bosch NiCd drill?
    2. How much use is the impact driver? I assume they have just split out the hammer function of the old style drill, or am I missing something?

    • I bought a cheap Ozito impact driver a few years ago and even though it's very basic, I always reach for it instead of the drill/driver next to it. It's far faster and far more capable of screwing into tough materials. It even does pretty good at screwing into 40+ year old jarrah, which can be a real pain to do (tip: rub the screw across a bar of soap before using it and it goes in a lot easier).

      • Thanks for reply mate.

  • +2

Ok deal but I hate when they call a torch a 3rd piece and they even call it ultimate….. Last year I bought my Makita set with bonus 3rd battery for $250 mark…..good to have around home….

  • This is a green Bosch model, not the higher end (professional) blue Bosch models.

  • Ozito now have brushless cheap….so in price brackets it is also brushed vs brushless for torque and run time comparisons

  • If you buy the kit, it has the minimal 1.5Ah (Amps per hour) batteries for the do it your self. As with most "18v" drills you should be able to now buy the 3,4 and 5Ah batteries separately.
E.G.at Bunnings you can buy for the Ryobi 18 Volt range 2x 18 Volt 5Ah batteries for $199, yes 2, that can be charged from your existing Ryobi charger.
How is that for a simple powerful upgrade. With my leaf blower I can barely do my back Alfresco and up the side of my house to do most of the front.
Now with a 5.0Ah battery I can go around my house twice and blow the grass out of my curbing/gutters after mowing on a corner block.

I got the masonry drill 3 months ago and put in the 5Ah battery and made holes in hard ground by breaking the ground first with it in jack hammer mode, then the shovelling was much easer.

Across the road the neighbours house had a street sign removed that was in their lawn and the pipe was cut off at just above ground level.
With my Ryobi masonry drill in jack hammer mode I broke up the concrete around the top then loosened the ground around it. I grabbed a length of pipe and put it inside of the remaining pipe and pulled it back and forth to loosen it up in the hole, then I laid the pipe down beside the cut off pipe and put a coat hanger through a little hole I drilled in the remaining pipe sticking out with my other Ryobi drill and wrapped the coat hanger around the middle of the pipe. We then easily lifted out the concrete post base, with someone at each end of the pipe.

I doesn't feel very effective at first but when you press it, the procession affect kicks in, as it is very affective. I had to make a hole in a double brick wall bigger be side a cable that was a very tight fit, that I didn't want to damage and it knocked out the sizeable brick easily without to much effort in jack hammer mode as in drill-hammer mode it would have destroyed the cable.

  • Reviews on this drill are mixed so although I am looking for a drill at present I think I will buy Makita or Milwaukee with a hammer function instead. Impact drivers not so good for screws into wood or plastics as there is no clutch so it's too easy to strip out the hole. Better to use a dedicated drill driver.

    Bosch greens. Low end, FYI.
    Bosch blues are better.
    Other brands, better yet.

Price corresponding to quality in general.
